Gil's answer may surpsrise you as he compares it to PJ Tucker wasting away on the Los Angeles Clippers Bench & Cade Cunningham shining for the lowly Detroit Pistons.
Gil’s Arena premieres every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 11:30am PT / 2:30pm ET.

This debate would maybe make more sense if PJ Tucker wasn't 38 years old. Who the fuck is going to play a 38 year old Tucker for 35 mins.
Thank you for saying that. PJ Tucker is 38 and had a great career. He’s not an offensive threat and an over rated defender at this stage of his career. Play the role, get your teammates ready, and stay locked in, just in case your number is called. The ring is what he should focus on.
It's. A. Business. Fuck that ring unless you're a legacy level player. Get your tick and get paid!!!
Simple
It’s a business right? So let’s put this in non athletic terms: you have two candidates for a job a person who was high in sales but it’s coming from a failing business or a person who was working for a company who was number 1 in their respective field. Which one are you picking?
The person high in sales... he did his job, the company failed..
@@sportsmanjared a failing business is one that will close soon. The Pistons aren’t closing.
@@sportsmanjareda person high in sales because he’s shown his worth, and his work ethic even when things are bad even if the rest of his business is failing. So if he tried to go to a good company after they’d look at that and see his value
wtf did Rashad just get conscious? 😂
Nah I really think bro retarded
This is Rashad’s best take lol
Yk gill pay him to say crazy shii righhh
Real shit yo 😂😂😂😂😂
@@KyrieBron na he say that dumb ass shit on his own
ESPN brainwashed some fans into thinking rings are more important but ring chasing is bad. All they want is players to stay put until they have a dame scenario.
Very few guys have clever gms. Bob myers is the gm of my generation. Jerry west as well.
And at the same time, they’ll try to push trade talk narratives. 😂
For them players gotta wait for the GM to make moves and when a dame scenario comes up he's a loser 😂
73% of you people are brainwashed ESPN has nothing to do with it 😭😭😭
ESPN brainwashed fans like you into thinking winning chips don’t matter. That’s the only thing that mattered before and matters now when it comes to your legacy
PJ Tucker would either have the same amount of stats or just 6 more points if he had more minutes because he’s not an offensive of weapon
Literally. It's no difference in him being on a lower ranked team than a contender. He's not starter and barley sub worthy. All he provides is hustle and as of late that's not even enough to be deemed valuable
You crazy you think shooting is the only way you get on the court? Lol PJ is a defensive specialist that’s why he gets paid and occasionally knocked down 3’s
Jared Dudley got jobs every year not playing a minute.
Patrick McCaw's got 3 more rings than everyone on that couch combined. I'd take any of their careers over McCaw's. First to 3 peat in the 21st century won't ever be taken away from him, but hell, playing for the Delaware Blue Coats (had to look that up 🤣) at 28 years old rn isn't worth that.
That’s the G league though. It would be more like the difference between being Manu Ginobli or James Harden. Ginobli came off the bench and averaged 25-27 minutes per game while Harden had like 40. Then Harden never won and Ginobli is a 4 time champ. Personally, I’m choosing Harden because he made way more money than Manu.
@@skillethead15 Manu a legend in argentina, everyone knows he coulda been a franchise star and had killer instinct.
@@jackjc3572 I’d rather be mega rich in America than a legend in Argentina.
@@skillethead15 cant bring money to the grave but having a legacy is immortalized
Either way your still rich asf idk why mfs underestimating what 8M a year can do for you
Minimum wage on the bench plus a ring to sell sounds better than a regular job lol
This isn’t even the point 😂
Im getting minutes on a trash team first get my numbers up, win some individual awards, get my contract and dip im not wasting my time there no more.
Exactly everyone can't be a winner but everyone can chase the bag
He was starting on the Sixers and is now unplayable. Damn.
He's old, that's what happens when you're old, one day no one wants you
@@JohnnytNatural He was starting this season.
@@PeteringYTyea he was starting running around the court doing nothing lol
@@curtiscoffman6735his replacement his Amir coffee a 6’8 rebounding 3 and D player that shoots 44% from 3 and has a bag and a fade when clock running out , clippers went 0-6 with pj in the lineup and are like 26-7 without him past 2 months
These people don't realize that Tucker is negative on the starting team nowadays his offense is way too limited and he's not the defender he used to be there's a reason why he was on the bench on the Bucks @@Snipergange
This debate is all over the place. I don't think they are taking in consideration the difference in skill level or age of players in these situations. 1st they made it sound like a hypothetical, than they focused on PJ Tucker. If you are an all-star talent player in their prime, you are going to want your minutes. If you are at the tail end of your career, just trying to stay in the league; you want your minutes to show you can still contribute. If you are just a utility/ role player most your career; never known for your offensive ability; I would imagine they be happy to be on the bench of a contender. Idk. This discussion needs more players at different levels and perspective of their careers. These 3 former players are not that.
Facts!
That is 90% of the debates on here, random scenarios that don’t even relate to the context
As a sports gambler the only total points under I’ve ever truly bet is PJ Tucker and it’s never missed!
6th -8th man yeah championship team. anything below that naah, fuck that. Unless I guess the team culture/history make it so that you have a connection to the franchise more than just a place to earn a paycheck.
😂😂 facts
You have too much ego lol.
@@a-a-rondavis9438why ? Cuz he wants to actually play ?
@@HomerunsamSOSAThey all do, and you can't just get an automatic 20+ minutes a game just because you're there. You gotta be valuable to a team and be GOOD. There's only 450 spots, and less than half are starters. That's an ego thing. You want minutes? Be better.
WHY would PJ think joining LAC would lead to PT?
Has he not seen their roster?!?!?
If no, isn't that HIS fault?!?!?
He was traded there in the James Harden trade, he didn't just sign as a free agent.
@@asioniolbc
Forgive me.
I took at statement as truth ("He wanted to go with Harden"), but upon research, this appears to be untrue.
*"James’ situation had nothing to do with me,” Tucker said. "As much as I get thrown in it, I’m kind of a casualty in that sense."*
But I CAN CONFIRM he only wants to play for a contender (not in the park or for a Big 3 team):
*“I don’t want to play if I’m not playing for a team that has a chance to win it,” Tucker said about being with the Clippers now. “Eighteen years, if I’m not chasing that, then I can’t play. There’s no point. And this team definitely has a chance. You look at our personnel. I don’t know how many teams that have it on paper like we do.”*
He wants to CONTRIBUTE to winning.
Not just "be on the winning team".
So Gilbert is wrong.
You have to give context. Playing time can be 30+ minutes and coming of the bench could mean 15 min. If I can play 15+ minutes do my job and get a ring than fuck 30+ minute Detroit starting role. What is the point of me playing 30-40 minutes every night if we are getting killed on a regular basis. Did you see the Detroit players, that shit is depressing.
They said you’re in the dog house meaning no mind just clapping and cheering
That wasn't the question though lol they changed the question for no reason
Rashad be saying anything to argue lol 😂
PJ Tucker playing 35mins is crazy shit if he played or not he might not get picked up anyways lol
Ong
Naw if PJ played 35mins a game he’s DEFINITELY getting picked up bro. Tuck has a smooth resume as far as contribution to playoff teams.
@@PatriccSellapound372I don’t think you realize how long 35 mins is and no team would ever be successful playing him that much lol
@@stringer2295 I’m not saying to play him that long I’m strictly talking about the ability to do so
@@PatriccSellapound372 o ok I got you
Respect to RC every show needs a antagonist he’s that and honest sometimes like 0:42
That ring culture stuff is weak if you really love the game you can’t downplay the work somebody put in because they weren’t able to win it all. None of us know the toll it takes mentally and physically to reach the top of the mountain.
That's what fans don't get a lot of times. You have to still show up and go to practice and workout and never get in and if you don't play you make less money
Mccants came ready for this one damn lol yes sir
Josiah : “or do you want to be a winner ?”😂😂
tucker isn’t getting more minutes anywhere he might as well sit tight on a contender he’s not leaving to go be on the bench for some scrubs..he wants to play for a contender because teams like that won’t need much from him..he’s to old all he wants is to be in rotation
really good conversation
Three dudes that never came close to a ring aren't the ones to answer this. Ask Udonis and Mike Miller this question
Bruh wtf are you talking about. Ain’t nothing to ask, take PJ for what he said literally considering his situation
BRUH!!!
Gilbert like Melo - rather score 50 and lose.
Sadness.
Those dudes didn't ride the bench .
Yall swear yall sound so smart with your statements
@@purerage7812niggas made hundreds of millions for their performance, way more money than what comes with a chip
More and more I listen to Gil I understand why he never won anything.
Ahahahaha
There are players with rings that would agree with him 😂if you’re not the number 1/2 option just we’re along for ride some people want to be the main guy and win and some just want to tag along some else hard work just like real life
10:50 Tuck just want to feel needed on a squad. But not any squad. He wants to play playoff minutes n feel needed
Most of the Warriors players got contracts and left after championship, and didn’t produce anything. 8-15 is roll players on most squads. The Warriors used almost every single player. But like U said! Most are not playing
Do you want to ball on one of the historically worst teams ever or ride the bench on a winning team? I'll play on the bad team if the contract is much higher. But if it's the same money, I don't want to be association with a terrible team. Rather be on a middle of the road team.
Cookkkk
Mccants owes me a new phone just made me break my shit again
Idk why he’s right
Gil always has to take it to the extreme with his opinion. The idea wasn't that you were the 13th guy never playing, you were getting minutes off of the bench for a good team versus being a starter on a bad team. So you will get your minutes to shine and possibly do it in big games that have a lot of eyeballs on it. Do you think anybody's watching any of those Detroit games to check out who's the man on that team? If I'm on the good team getting 12 minutes a game, I'm going to show out in those 12 minutes and it's going to be on TNT and ESPN every night. Detroit's probably playing tape delayed games at this point only on the radio. I have no idea. But Gil always has to take it to the extreme when that wasn't what the question was asking, he's a contrarian so he does it on purpose to be annoying.
It's PATHETIC!!
"If Embiid isn't MVP, "bums" will win it"
HOW?!?!?
So he's saying the rest of the All NBA Team are bums?@?!
DEFINE "riding the bench"!!
Are you Haslem of Giannis bros?
Young Jermaine O'Neil in POR or old PJ??
But they’re speaking on players in the dog house meaning no playing time wtf in your ears ?
If you’re in your prime 20-26 and only getting 12 minutes you needa take whoever offers you the most.
@@Kirbystare1992 talking about players with 0 minutes bone and PJ aren’t getting no playing time they talking about players that have DNP not a bench player in a 8 man rotation
McCants just be talking and changing the argument 😂
Gil always tries to make a point more valid by saying" in real time" lmao
Could he want to play but on a contender cuz he wants to feel like he contributed to the title. Everyone don't want to collect a ring but to contribute to winning a ring.
I love how Gil had to break it down to Rashad like a little kid 😂😂
Linking this everytime someone comes at me about Lins ring
0:42 Rashad killing me 😂😂😂😂
Rings are cool… after you get the bag.

James Michael McAdoo is a two-time National Basketball Association Larry O' Brien Award Winner of the years of 2015 and 2017.
No one can take that from him!
He is forever a champion and a staple in the hearts of every person who may ever enjoy bay area basketball.
After selflessly braving the rigors and turmoil of two championship seasons...he is forever cemented into the history and legacy of the game we love!
Trading dreams for memories is the eternal taste of victory!
A $100,000,000 guaranteed extension can only go so far
...
But a $100,000 championship ring tells the story of greatness into the future
It depends on the player and his situation, New, young, and short stint players have to make money before they can worry about their legacy. Stars and role players who made and invested enough would be willing to make less to win. Every players motivation is different
Mccants will say anything just to have a debate 😂… he has a clear example of a champion wanting to play and still trying to put a spin on it
PJ IS 38 wtf left is there for him 🤦🏾♂️😂 win the chip take the finals bonus & retire … he’s not Lebron or curry ..
What shoes Brandon Jennings’s got on lmao 🤣
Boston Red Sox has a massage therapist who had a couple championship rings.
Ppl lost they damn minds riding the bench gone mess up yo chances to make more money a bunch of non athletes would want to ride the pine by choice
The question should've been would you be a bench role player
Ashy Larry lol
Gil look so hurt at that 25% from the chat lol #CHEP
Well Fournier played 25 minutes for the pistons last night
Riding the bench and coming off the bench are two different things. You gotta get some playing time or else it ain't worth it. Gil and Brandon bring up a great point that if you aren't playing it will be very hard to get another contract somewhere else
realistically, how much money is enough to satisfy someone and their lifestyle? bc me personally, once I hit 6 figures id be perfectly fine
Depends if you wanna get paid.
Prime example of riding the bench. LeSean McCoy's 2 superbowl rings and he didn't play in either superbowl games
But before that he balled out for every other team he played for… it’s not the same
It’s other dudes who were on those who were on the bench with shady but shady the only one with real money.. the other dudes might not be in the league next year and haven’t made much
I rather ball out on a trash team like brad beal and get that $250 million dollar contract
Agree with Gill, you want to play first and foremost, unless you're a veteran player with money in the bank and a lots if mileage on the body having played a lit and you get a chance to contend
Another ring is different than A ring. If it's your first, I think the answer is different than what you are willing to do if you already have one
The most important thing is to earn the most money possible period
Aye unc yall I got a question I know yall get sponsors by underdog. Do yall think sports betting killed this league that foul on Brunson was bs a lot of calls these last few years been bs
Its only contrary people saying they would rather sit on the bench.
Need PJ out there for Kat that last night
Pj Tucker not a 35 min guy they crazy
that’s not the point you goofy. it was an example. you & rashad mccants goofy jr & goofy sr
Now what Gilbert should’ve said if PJ Tucker plays 30 plus mins a night he won’t be in the league the following year. It’s an offensive game Tucker will give up 20 a night on defense and will not score on the other end to make up for that. He’s not effective on a young team he’s made for a team that’s trying to win a ring
Shoulda never left Miami
As an athlete, f’ck a ring that I didn’t contribute to. That ring is meaningless to me. Nobody will remember you were on the team because you did nothing. You won’t feel fulfilled because you did nothing. Give me my ‘big fish in a small pond’ & my bigger paychecks.
Only time I think I have ever agreed with maccants he’s 100% right on this one
It really depends on where you at in yo career
Nobody is wrong in this conversation. There's different schools of thoughts from players on different paths of their careers. Some value more championships, some value, money, and some value longevity, and personal playing time. There's no one right answer. And because we didn't have someone in the group, a prior bus driving championship caliber player in the group speaking, you kinda lack that narrative as well.
PJ getting more rings won’t change anything for him. He’s a hooper who just wants to hoop plus get a check. He made it to the highest level once and that’s enough.
Rashad is right. PJ Tucker doesn’t provide enough production to be playing 35 minutes. PJ Tucker would make a great addition to Memphis, SA, etc..
Run with the trash team and ball out to get my value up to be the best 2nd-4th option I can be on a contender during trade deadlines and offseason free agent markets.
He’s saying to work everyday and never get paid but they literally hey paid and don’t have to work
Rashad Mccants I swear if you put in the work you can be the best in the game (analyst) no cap we rootin for you
But im getting millions lol 😂😂😂
Gil is a perfect example on how money can't buy class, competence, and intelligence.
But he's helping folks get prepared for the games...doesn't his reward come from coaches speaking on his work ethic and support to the process as a veteran?
It would depend on how old I am, honestly… if I’m at least 34, let me ride with the contenders and maaaaybe if someone gets hurt, put me in. But I’m not tryna hurt myself forever against players that literally just run down and back with no defense 😭💀
Edit: We goin to Sizzlers… We goin to Sizzlers 😭😭 That’s exactly how PJ feel rn
All depends on what stage I am in my career
McCants finally making sense to me
He been making sense its just gil and them always think they right because they had better career than him outta all these shows that dropped gil and kmart got heated onetime but everytime mccants on it gets heated💯
Yall say this under almost every video lmaoo that man made sense plenty of times
The cavs can use him they can leave Dean Wade far on the bench and leave T Top far on the bench
The ppl that said they would sit on a bench never played sports..never got in the game if they did.
You can ball out on a trash team and land a big contract if you putting numbers. Riding the pine won't get you that
If you're on a championship team and you're healthy, you have a chance to compete for a chance to play.
That’s not true
When did pj ask the Sixers for a trade
people remember bulls Ron Harper ..not cavs Ron Harper
This question will tell u who are the real athletes.....that 25% that said they rather sit on the bench probably never play "organized" sports in their life.....u ask any "true" athlete they want that playing time
I’m playin on a trash team. I got drafted to the league to Hoop, and get better only way ima get better is if I consistently play. And I might get a better contract with more money somewhere else media got everybody thinkin it’s just about rings instead of just love playin the game.
39 year olds don’t really be playing like that. And this dude always been a role player anyway
Imagine being on the sorry team dropping 25ppg 😂😂 put me on the trash team all day
I rather get more minutes on a trash team or end up like jeremy lin crying with a ring because he didnt play enough. Dude was crying with a ring
They not understand the exposure to playoffs games
Rashad just be talking
What a difference 24 hours make. These PJ Hood Hoppers
Would you rather be lamelo ball or Christian Braun. I’m taking lamelo everytime
It would depend on where I’m at in my career. A vet like pj there’s nothing else to do but win
McCants is always on some unreal ish
Rashad is one of the best at what he does...saying nonsense that he doesn't even believe with a straight face. He had a promising career as a lawyer. lol
PJ played 35 mins in Milwaukee and shot like 1-4 times a game if that😂😂. Fuck is he gone do now
I rather play
McCants again is right .PJ if he wanted isn’t playing 35 minutes nowhere because there’s too many players better all around… vs getting no play time on a team on track for a championship… anything can happen playoff series are abt matchups … if anything it’s abt the money.. that’s a personal problem 🤷🏾♂️
Im bustin my ass, i wanna play!!!!!
only in sports its like that.. i know plenty of people who want to get paid and do nothing...
It’s crazy how this guy rambles and rambles. But there’s one thing I can say about him, he’s Mister Consistent, because he consistently keeps making bad comments after bad comments.
I didn't make it to the league to ride the bench, come on, now. So yeah, I'd rather play🤷🏿♂️
