The Most Corrupt Football League On Earth

  • From the 2006 Calciopoli scandal to the 2015 investigation into FIFA and the organisation's president Sepp Blatter, football - like most sports - has been plagued by corruption over the years.
    However, there is perhaps no more brazenly corrupt football / soccer league in the world than the Tajik League, which is the top flight of football in Tajikistan. One of the most secretive and repressive states on Earth, very little is known of Tajikistan, and even less of the nation's football scene.
    So in this documentary, HITC Sevens delves into secretes behind the Central Asian nation, it's ludicrous football league, and what the future might hold for the nation's leader & the people of Tajikistan.

    As a Tajik myslef I love this video. The accuracy is spot on. The people of the country are afraid to speak up and are scared to protest and start another war because they’ve already been through one civil war and nobody wants to see that again. Interesting fact: One time a ref gave Rustam (presidents son) a red card and he proceeded to attack the ref have him replaced and continue the game. Another time one team nearly beat them and ruined their 27 game win streak and they had their wages withheld for a few weeks.

    One slight thing to remember when discussing China is that there is a historic community of ethnic Tajiks in Xinjiang. If there was a free Western Turkestan state or even if China gave minority commmunities the ability to organise in China they could be a destabilizing effect on Tajikistan. If they are all locked away or surveilled in ways lifted straight from Foucault then they won't cause any problems for the corrupt tyrants ruling the country.

    Hey Alfie, just a quick thing: you say that Tajikistan is "closed off" for most of the world. However, as far as I know it's not, it's actually a decently popular destination for "adventure tourists" who travel along the Pamir Highway.

    • @h3nder
      @h3nder Před 3 lety

      Closed off in the sense of most people have no clue what's going on.

    • @nwahnerevar9398
      @nwahnerevar9398 Před 3 lety +2

      @@h3nder Isn't that more that people don't know what's going on due to Tajikistan's obscurity on the World Stage more than the country being "closed off" though? To me, a country being closed off implies that it's incredibly difficult if not impossible for outsiders to see the country, like in communist Albania, North Korea or Turkmenistan. Like, Vietnam ranks horrendously in terms of democracy, press freedom etc but that's obviously a really popular tourist destination and you can't call it closed off.
      Dunno, I'm probably just splitting hairs as I've been planning a tour of the Stans when we can travel again so I had the place on my mind.

    A video on Southeast Asian football would be much appreciated. Ranging from JDT's win in the 2015 AFC Cup, the period of league dualism in Indonesia during 2011-12, Vietnam's golden generation, how Ceres-Negros are dominating ASEAN football, and also the rivalry between Muangthong United and Buriram United as well as Muangthong United and Port would be quite interesting.
