    Just a heads up for those whose prime valve won’t allow the pump to build pressure, you can most times disassemble as Brian demonstrates, clean the debris out of the spring, housing, nut and seat. On reassembly, drop some throat seal oil around the needle/ball assembly, into the housing where it rides and wipe some around the spring. This helps free the valve up to seat fully, preserves the O ring and softens chunks you may not be able to remove. I’ve done it for years and almost never have to replace the valve.

    Thank you for the video. I had a couple of problems with my Graco. First problem was the pump would not prime. Top ball was sticking. Second problem was the hole in the filter base was plugged. I took your suggestion and with the system open turned the machine on low. The pump blew to clog out.
    This pump is brand new. Only 6 gallons of paint went through it. Brand new SW gallons. I'm gonna have to screen all the paint before running it through my pump. I'm one that has tidy/clean machines. New dirty paint is unacceptable.
    Thank you for posting this vid. Very helpful.

    Nice video on that, have seen any detailed info like this. I'm also interested in see how the pump & prime valve work on a diaphragm pump, like an ed655 works as I have 2 of them that are clean, and still don't prime.

      The balls and seats have to perfect on those things to work so try new balls. Generally 6 mm or 7. Otherwise both balls and seats. The ball sizes must be exact. The seats can be honed but you might as well by new sets but I’ve won with new balls because the old ones get pitted.

      Diaphragm pumps are a different animal all together. If I have a Diaphragm unit come in, I will get a video together.

    Hi, good vid, I've recently got a titan 640, now I've only used it twice and I've noticed it's started to leak from the prime valve and also oil is leaking from underneath down onto the thin black return hose....what's gone wrong, what could cause them both to leak at the same time after only 2 uses

    • @Brian_the_repair_guy
      @Brian_the_repair_guy  Před rokem +1

      The oil is residue from a slight leak in the reservoir from the oiler. Nothing to be concerned about.
      The prime valve., does it leak though the hose back into the bucket or is it leaking around the handle when it is turned?

      @Brian Shumack the repair guy I've only puy a bit in the reservoir because my 440 did the same thing, surely shouldn't happen this quick, is it a poor design from titan

      @@Brian_the_repair_guy i start it prime it then turn it to spray mode and spray it just with water testing it turn up the pressure it sounds like a hissing air leak at that point and it just starts pumping water out the prime line like its trying to build up pressure

    The prime valve can also act as a pressure relief valve if over 3500 pounds and I found an overpressuring condition affecting a new valve to the owners puzzlement.
