Man, MaxPax really is trying to steal my heart from ShoWTimE with play this good. He forced HeroMarine into an all-in on EVERY game. Complete control.
That was brutal, MaxPax really is getting too good at this game, I love seeing protoss get microed and macroed correctly at the same time!!!
He's at the point where he struggles with Clem and Serral. That's literally it, and funnily enough, he's 3rd on Aligulac after Serral and Clem.
The problem with protoss is that it has a lot of things in their toolbox that are extremely strong against most non-professionals, but become much less useful against the top percentile of players. In other words, the strength of the protoss army isn't just dependent of the skill of the player controlling it, but also that of the oppopnent's. Take disruptor shots, for example, up to maybe top 10 GM, they have the potential to deal a ton of damage to any army if the opposing player isn't alert enough. But if you watch a player like clem who nullifies so much of the damage that disruptors do by just insane splits each time one even starts to enter his screen, you are basically wasting money by going for them. The problem is that almost all of protoss's damage dealing units - with the exception of immortals - work the same way. They are entirely reliant on your opponent not being good enough to deal with them to inflict damage, and for the vast majority of players, they simply aren't and those units become OP, but for the top percentil of players, protoss simply doesn't have any answers.
The balance of scv health makes perfect sense to me when you consider that scvs are the only worker unit that doesn’t heal itself. Because the Zerg drone heals slowly and the Protoss probe has that shield regeneration

I really enjoy maxypax play.
I have to say I miss HAS games, but maxpax shows some of that style time to time, which is always so much fun.
It is true that progamers don't care for the fun, they just want to win, but I think guys like MaxPax and Reynor take risks, for the fun if it works out, every now and then :-)

Is it possible that the reason Zerg and Terran are doing so well at the very top is because of the sheer amount of practice they get against Protos on the ladder

A reason for why Maxpax play the 25 december is because it is not Christmas that day instead danish people hold Christmas the 24 around night that is when we oppen gifts.
The reason MaxPax isn't in premiere tournaments is because he'd be afraid he'd play worse than on online tournaments. He mentioned this on the AMA interview with feardragon and KJ. So I guess we'll just have to wait until he feels comfortable to play premiere tournaments in a big crowd.

to be fair though, some countries, for example Sweden celebrate christmas on the 24th, having looked it up, both germany and denmark are also part of these countries, so they're just vibing the day after christmas, on the 25th

Maxpax doesn't play offline events because at home he uses OBS studio to project the minimap onto another large monitor (yes dual monitor setup for SC2). Its not the only reason he's good, in fact I don't think it makes a huge difference. But maybe its enough to where is gives an over the top advantage.
Interesting conspiracy theory
It could be more than this. He could be playing with an assistant who informs him immediately when there's a drop incoming, or using a piece of software that makes a sound every time something happens on the mini map. Or maybe has someone helping him with his macro while he micros, like a well coordinated Archon mode. Any of of these advantages for a top level GM could be enough to make someone world class.

You can't put the blame on Protoss not winning premier tournaments only on MaxPax not playing, as both Terran and Zerg had at least 2 different winners

In Denmark, we mainly celebrate Christmas on the evening of the 24.
Of cause the 25. is also a holiday, but not as big for us as the 24.
Too much coffee isn't good for your health. Try to limit yourself to 2 cups per day, 3 if you really need it, and never in a row, give each cup at least one hour to settle in.
4 cups has been shown to be fine, no need to be that strict. However some people are more caffeine sensitive.
@@macht4turbo it depends on how you make it too. Some methods extract more caffeine, some less.
It would be awesome if you made a material about 2024 power board score with most known players their level etc. it would be a great addition to the trivia
28:00, I feel like if Protoss sees some buffs herO will likely start winning more tournaments, so even if MaxPax continues to not play offline tournaments, I think Protoss will see more wins at the highest level. PartinG is also coming back, so if he's still in form there could be more wins there.

You know what I think would be a unique and interesting resource layout for an expansion? You have gold mineral fields and a rich vespene geyser at the same expo, but you position them in such a way that there is no "optimal" positioning for a base like usual; either it'll be a tile or two further away from the geyser than normal, or it'll be a tile or two back from the minerals. At that point the player has to choose where to position it, because that extra mining time for one or the other is going to at least somewhat cancel out the advantage it normally gives.
Cool idea, but 9/10 times pros would go for the minerals.
Wouldn't they just throw a couple more on gas and position it by the minerals?

It is seriously weird that maxpax wont play premier tourneys. Whats even weirder is the organisers allow it, and help maintain his anonymity. Very, very bizarre.
I don't think the organisers can do anything about a player not wanting to participate. Also, there are quite a few completely normal reasons to explain why Maxpax does not play offline tournaments.

Anxiety sucks, going for teraphy/to consult with psychiatrist is the way :) I've heard that MaxPax has fear of offline turnaments, hoping he will resolve it :)

Can someone with higher mmr explain me? The theory is:
Normal base is 8 mineral patches for 5 minerals per worker trip, which gives 40 for one trip of all workers.
Gold base is 6 mineral patches for 7 per trip that equates for 42 minerals for one trip of all workers. That is 5% increase.
Hybrid base is 4 normal and 4 gold witch brings us to whooping 48, and that is 20% increase in income, right?
So the main advantage of taking gold base is that you need 4 less workers and your economy growes faster while you saturate base.
For hybrid base, you get biggest income and since you start with gold patches your economy is growing faster than normal base. And on top of that you still get two gasses.
Is that position so bad to defend, so it is not worth it?
You need 4 less workers. So while when fully saturated its just 5% better, on the road there its 40% better. Also, needing 4 less workers means it taked way less time to fully saturate, so your economy grows faster. And as this economy growth is exponential, 40% is *HUGE* . For the hybrid bases im guessing the issue is that: Its not a full gold which tends to yield better results at low eco, and its super exposed. Its like the gold base on Goldenaura, the base is just far too hard to defend. Easier to defend golds such as in equilibrium tend to get taken way more often if you havent noticed.(especially by zergies)
@@snowdrop9810goldenaura is just hard to defend in general. All the bases feel super spread out and the center has a lot of chokes so you can’t chase or set up surrounds very easily.
Equaliberalm gold is very hard to defend out of context but because the map is so large and open its harder and riskier to do so

What if Lowko was really Maxpax?
the mix and match base i think is better bc theres rich minerals and the same classic 8 minerals field so its worth more than normal ones maybe even more than full gold ones
i think the reason that you don't see Protoss in the top players is that it hits it power spikes at weird times and overall tends towards play that isn't conducive to the power spikes. the single unit early harass for terran is the Reaper which is better at that role than the Protoss's Adept, but the Adept can be invested into being an early game rush unit, while the Reaper can't be scaled up for use past that initial opener. to make use of the Adepts you need to be aggressive, but the shield regen of Protoss rewards cautious play so that the regen on the shields can keep up with the damage taken. this means a complete shift in how you play at that one moment, or make sure you micro good and also make good decisions so the damage is spread out. similar stuff happens throughout the game, such as the late game death ball being the strongest, but since the expensive units can get sniped at a rate that you can't keep up with that means that using them as a death ball leads to a slow attrition towards death, so you should spread the units out to strike with a small group when attacked and pull back the units that are getting jumped to buy time for the strike to deal damage so that you are ahead in a base race scenario.
All protoss tools require you to be attacked into pretty much. The 7k players just know how to abuse that.
Like all their tools require you to micro backwards. Stalkers ht forcefields prisms ext.

I think at the top the players ability to micro zerg and terran tips it over the edge to be better than protoss, at that level protoss can't recover from any mistakes where others can. Maxpax skills at micro of protoss beats others by a mile, I keep seeing him with 4-5 battles going on at once and harassing every base.
Maybe the reason he only play online is to hide his cat sitting on his lap managing some of his units for him.

I know you're not being shitty, and I'm if anything the #1 MaxPax fan, and man: it's tough how we have no reason for why one of the best players in SC2 history doesn't play offline. People have their reasons, and I'm not saying we're owed an explanation, but damn. It's tough. I'm not gonna lie, it actually detracts from major tournaments to some degree for me.

Maybe its the modern world, but I feel like until I see MaxPax play in person its always going to feel a bit like he (or she) might just be a computer algorithm (they?) lol!
