Oooooookay, that's what happens when you show those Nu Metal Millenials who are used to Marvel movies a Stanley Kubrik masterpiece. "Where is the fighting? What, no CGI?"
This isn't suppose to groove and it isn't suppose only the be 4/4 or 3/4 bars... Nu Metal is fast food Metal in comparison to this. This is for people who are willing to take the time because this is closer to classical music than to Pop. *lecture over
Exactly
Well I have to say Odyssey is way better.
I'm a huge Symphony X fan but occasionally they go beyond creative excellence into straight up instrumental wankery. It's brief in this song but it does sound like it was made up on the fly during a sound check or something.
Prog fan 101 right here.
The funny thing is that I discovered Symphony X with this amazing song. I fell in love with the band (and Russell Allen) just for the part at 22:38. It's one of the most beautiful and emotional parts I've ever heard on song. I can comprehend that Prog is not for everyone, but should give it another try when you get more experienced in music.
Symphony X is such an awesome band, but if you're not into prog this is, absolutely, not the song to start approaching them, I would recommend Out of the Ashes, Masquerade and Smoke and Mirrors ;)
And Michael Romeo's new songs this year like Djinn or Oblivion
Maybe even for a first listener thematic songs would be better, anything from V or The Odyssey. Like Fallen, Evolution, or Wicked, Infwrno and King of Terrors.
Yesssx
Man, I recommended Sea of Lies, Kiss of Fire, or The Serpent’s Kiss, but Out of the Ashes, Smoke and Mirrors, King of Terrors.... how TF did they pick this as the first song to expose them to!?
@@tsho6131 at least they got the band done, as far as I'm concerned that's a good thing cos they'll be more likely to do it again amirite? :D
I TRIED to warn them. Don’t throw people into the deep end of the prog pool. Gotta learn to swim first. Please return to SX in the future and do something like Sea of Lies, Kiss of Fire or The Serpent’s Kiss. All the badass musical composition, far less prog wankery. They have a long and diverse catalog and almost all of the songs are more concise than this.
As they started DT with ... Wither ^^
I was part of an alliance and I left because I honestly don't like the songs they pick. As much as I like Symphony X, I wouldn't have started with this epic song. Sea of Lies would have been a better option indeed.
And yes, they did the same with DT, the songs they have done so far are not the best way to introduce yourself to DT. And before I left, they picked "In the name of God".
Of all the songs, all the albums, all the interesting themes they had to pick that one up. Well, let's see how that goes.
I believe that a great way to introduce someone to Dream Theater is to pull up Metropolis Part 2: Scenes from a Memory and just hit play. But if I don’t have time for an album, I think The Dark Eternal Night or Panic Attack would be where I’d go.
@@tsho6131 TDEN or Panick Attack, are you serious? ^^
I've always felt the best way is Metropolis Pt 1.
Scenes from a memory, or even the Glass Prisson.
Pannick Attack is amazing, but it could be too much for them, same as Dark Eternal Night.
It's like having them to listen for the first time Pink Floyd with A saucerful of secrets, or Yes with Tales from topographic oceans 😂😂
I never clicked on a reaction so quick. One of my favorite bands!
Me too for sure.
This is actually one of my least favorite early songs by them. Its so ultra proggy that its hard to get into a groove too. I wish they had choosen 'The Odyssey' instead...
And now they will never hear good Symphony X and will get a bs vibe now that they heard this. anything else would have been better, with how you know Vin doesn't like prog... shame
@@jonathanmelton8835 I think they should have done a more compact and aggressive song like Seven. It shows what the band is all about but its alot less indulgent and much more heavy and aggressive in its delivery. But I get that this was a personal pick for Peter. So I can't fault him for that. Trust me, Symphony X will come again as an alliance pick. They are a very popular band.
Yes. "Seven" aka fire and ice :) i love that one. i also think that "Smoke and Mirrors" would have been good, but "Seven" is a solid choice! Isnt that the right song Im thinking of?
This is one of the best albums of the 90s. Symphony X is one of the best metal bands, and Russell Allen the best singer in rock today.
This album is the epitome of prog and power metal crossover! 😍
Symphony X is a band for musicians. I say that because I only think musicians can appreciate the level of talent this band has. It's not for everyone. Dream Theater was asked once why they play such intricate prog metal and the answer was, "because playing anything else bores us" . So basically think of prog metal as them challenging themselves as musicians. But as I said, It's not meant to be for everyone. But I love the fuck out of it. It's such an adrenalin rush
this is a really good way of explaining it to people who see it as self indulgent nonsense.
@@khellendross3573 It's sort of like asking a master chef to make waffles from store bought wafflemix, and enjoy the taste.
@@Progster0192 exactly!
Not a musician, but I love and understand this. When you want something else in prog try 'Unexpect'.
I'm not a musician but it's my favourite band
This was definitely not the first Symphony X song I would've picked. They tend to have 1 epic per album, but not all their songs are like this. I would've done "Of Sins and Shadows" or "Evolution (The Grand Design)," both of which are normal length songs with heavy riffs and catchy choruses. For an epic, I would've picked "The Odyssey" over this, which is longer, but you'd probably enjoy it more. C'mon patreon! Why would you pick a 20 minute song to introduce them to this band?!?
Marcus Wilson because they want THEIR song to get picked not what would be a reasonable first step into the bands sound
Strongly agree. And LOVE your picks. Evolution is my favorite song of theirs.
It's like picking And Then There Was Silence by Blind Guardian or When The Guns Fell Silent by Warbringer as first listens.
Which... I mean... Those are great songs actually. They'd probably transcend the time problem.
Okay, bad examples.
Umm, maybe like a really long Rhapsody Of Fire or Opeth song or something. Or I by Meshuggah. Or even Alkaloid's two prog "epics".
I could see someone getting really exhausted through any of that.
Especially as introduction.
@@SKULLEDBUICK the main problem is Vin and sori are not that much into prog when people appear right away with a too long and elaborated music they tend to not like it that much because they are not used to genre. The songs you mentioned from Blind guardian and such would be good in a sequence not as introduction, make them listen one or two from the band first for them to get used to the band, before they start thinking right away the band is only that kind of very long songs. the problem is a bad choice for first song will make them don't hear the song in a while and when they did they will already be in the defensive against the band.
Paradise Lost is great too
Symphony X is one the greatest neo-classical, progressive, power metal bands! And I really like this song. All great musicians; Michael Romeo (guitarist), Russell Allen (Singer), Mike Lepond (bassist), etc. Check more of their music. They have several long songs, just gotta get used to it.
SX- The Edge of Forever
SX- Through the Looking Glass
SX- Awakenings
SX- When All Is Lost
accolade II
Haken - the endless knot
Opeth - hessian peel
Porcupine tree - arriving somewhere but not here
Finally someone else mentions Haken!!! I'd personally recommend "Falling back to earth" the lyrics are quite delicious
Hessian Peel is my favourite song, but I don't think Vin would like it. Haken-Cockoroach King would be a better pick in my opinion, really fun song.
They don't care for your requests here.
By now you should know they only pick their patrons picks. Theres no point asking for songs in the comment section
Haken, Haken,Haken
A monsterously awesome song. I wore this song out in the early 2000's. I've seen these guys live twice and both times you had to be wowed by the epic power of Sir Russel Allen's voice. And a really nice guy to. When they opened up for Blind Guardian I went up to grab a beer during the set change after Children of Bodom and he was sitting at the bar just chilling with fans enjoying a beer. Imposing guy physically speaking but just a really nice dude. And what can you say about the guitar wizardry of Michael Romeo. One of the go to guys for neoclassical shredding, he never comes across as self indulgent to me but still the technicality is always there. You can also catch him singing with the currently touring east coast wing of Trans Siberian Orchestra, putting a little metal into your typical christmas songs. Glad this one got done, hope you guys love it as its a really unique and special song.
I think the lead guitar/keys part at 16:00 or so in the video is a nod to one of the Requiems (Mozart perhaps?). I've been slacking in my classical listening of late.
The song Am I Evil is by Diamondhead not Metallica. Metallica just covered it. Same with Helpless (another great Diamondhead cover they did)
All that said about this song. I completely understand what you said about Prog. This is probably their proggiest song actually. Odyssey for length is much less so. But I would have picked a much heavier and vicious song for you two like Seven. Which thematically you would have enjoyed but also Russell's vocals there are much much more aggressive than anything on Divine Wings. This is also a very early Symphony X song. They haven't really done a song close to this length other than The Odyssey which is more recent and sounds alot more modern. But I am guessing Peter picked this song cause it was his favorite and I can't argue with that. Wish you guys would have enjoyed it more though. Its a long ass song if you aren't enjoying it.
Symphony X, Children of Bodom and Blind Guardian in one show? I'm jealous.
@Malcolm Reynolds Had to have been a different show. This was in 99 or 2000 for the Nightfall in Middle Earth tour. When BG was the biggest modern power metal band in the world. Symphony X by contrast was not super well known outside of the die hard progressive/power fans. They had just released V and that was the album that really broke them out. To illustrate that I actually saw BG two nights in a row. The first night was a sold out show, so much so that they oversold the venue. And BG had a 3 day layover so they convinced BG to do a second show the next night where they played a longer set. I saw both shows, the first night was crazy cause it was sold out and Symphony X was there as well as COB. The second night it was BG and some local talent but they did an extra long set and there was only about 150 people people there. On the first night the venue was 50% full when Symphony X ended their set and was completely jam packed when BG played. I believe this was one of the first if not the first major US tour for BG. So at that time, BG was by far the bigger band. Nowadays with BG's low output and slight shift in sound, I think Symphony X has been more consistent. Especially since V.
You should NEVER start with their longest song! Shame on the group that voted this as the intro to Symphony X. Shame on them! THere are sooooo many regular songs by Symphony X that would have been better.
Just stopping by to say the introduction is actually a re-arrangement of "Mass in B minor" by JS Bach.
And the martial parts that reminded you of Metallica are actually re-arrangement of "Mars Bringer Of War" by Gustav Holst.
So absolutely no Metallica or Queen influences, just Baroque and Romantic influences.
Divine wings of tragedy is a song that you understand after you have listened if 5 times. And once you have understood this song, boy!!!!!!!! You are there for a excellent treat!
Thank you for checking out a different sounding band! I love their Phrygian Dominant Heavy Used Progressions
Megadeth: Five Magics or Wake up Dead
this is an amazing song, but i think this is too much to start when you never listened Symphony X before, songs like Sea of lies, pharaoh, Eyes of medusa, Set the world on fire, electric messiah, and so on are far easier songs to hear as first ones from this band
Yeah as I thought they didn't enjoy that much that song, I guess how long will it take for them to review another Symphony X song
people didn't learn anything from Vin and Sori porcupine Tree reactions they keep making them listening the more elaborate songs that they aren't used to and leaving out far more suitable songs to them and then ask why they never pick the band again. There is a thing called habituation, mainly in their case as they are not into prog you start with something shorter and more easy to remain in the mind then you evolve. I really Enjoy "When all is lost" but was "sea of lies" the first Symphony x song I ever heard.
HOLY SHIIIIIIIT! I never would have expected this song!
The music occurs in movements, like classical music. And also like classical music, the movements tell the majority of the story (or at least in this case what the lyrics do not.)
Helloween - Keeper of the seven keys 🎃
symphony x finest album and symphony x most epic song. the pinnacle of their most progressive era.
How to have people not like the band you want them to like:
Step 1: instantly pick a 25 minute song.
Shame, happened with Wintersun (Opeth too, to an extent) and is happening again now with another great band.
Seriously! I love Symphony X, but this pick *has* to be a troll. Pretty much the least accessible intro to the band they could've chosen.
@@KyleS.1987 It's like people are completely out of touch with the effect certain songs have on others - and this is a reaction channel, literally what you do is you watch people react to different bands. How can you not think "hey maybe Divine Wings of Tragedy is a little bit long, pretentious and inaccessible, let's go for Set the World on Fire or Paradise Lost instead".
Are they worried they'll look fake if they pick a more accessible and shorter by about 17 minutes song? No one thinks you're cool or is impressed because you threw a Herculean level odyssey at two people that have never heard the band before, you're doing yourself as well as everyone else who likes the band/channel a disservice because they're never gonna listen to it again. Just like they haven't listened to Wintersun since Sons of Winter and Stars because people picked that instead of Beyond the Dark Sun or Starchild.
The patreon alliances do good work, last thing I wanna do is complain, but wake up people. Same thing with picking horrific live version, a 12 year old performance of March of Mephisto in 240p when Kamelot have REALLY good live performances of other songs (When the Lights are Down, The Haunting) on youtube makes me very sad.
they rated WIntersun highly and liked it, I think you are thinking of another band?
@@vigridr7614 That's it. A lot of people who listen to metal are absolutely out of touch.
I remember seeing a comment on a CZcams video (can't remember the exact video) & they were like "If I were to get somebody into metal, I'd choose something more entry level like The Philospher by Death."
And I was just thinking like... My guy, if you think throwing Chuck Shuldiner's shrieks over Progressive Death Metal onto some unsuspecting pedestrian is gonna be anywhere close to entry level... Then uhh, I dunno what to tell you lmao.
It's already a lost cause at that point.
They don't try to take anything into account other than: "Hey, I think this is pretty great. That means others will too."
And that's pretty much the end of it lol.
But yeah, horrible song choice here lmao. Underworld, Set The World On Fire, Of Sins And Shadows. All that shit. All better choices than a goddamn 20 minute song lmao.
@@SKULLEDBUICK this opinion is spot on, sometimes i wonder about the mentality of people doing the recommending in these react to metal channels.
Pain of Salvation - The Passing Light of Day
I'll bet they'd love falling home, though. ..I don't know who the hell wouldn't like falling home.
The Black Dahlia Murder - The Window, The Lonely Deceased, Deathmask Devine, Abysmal, Closed Casket Requiem, I Will Return, Denounced Disgraced, Crucifed in Cruciform, Nocturnal, Funeral Thirst, Miscarriage, Dave Goes to Hollywood, Statutory Ape Moonlight Equilibrium.
Please give any of those songs a listen.
Theocracy- Mirror of Souls 22 minutes
Theocracy- I Am
Theocracy- Nailed
Theocracy- Gift of music
Theocracy- Laying the Demon to Rest
Theocracy- Absolution Day
Been requesting this band since June. Just give them a shot.
Andrew Brorherton good suggestions:) we gotta start a patreon pool for them
I am Would be a great first song I think.
I Am is on its way
@@The_Pony Don't be kidding me like that, lol. Are you freaking serious? Would be a great Christmas present. 👍
@@andrewbrorherton6898 oh, no. I'm genuine hahaha. My mom in law had asked me if she could ask them to do a song, so she eventually called and asked for it during a fireside :) they just have to catch up Patreon first.
Should have been "The Odyssey" for sure. Way more story in that song.
You two are probably the only two people on the internet who have genuine and intelligent reactions to music.
The song is inspired by/a retelling of Milton's Paradise Lost. The character is Lucifer, The war in heaven, the fall, journey out of the underworld to earth, etc. This song is alright, but not the one I'd choose to share based on what I've seen of Vin and Sori's tastes. Their three latest albums are heavier, more metal, Russel's singing has gotten even better, and the production and mixes are better, imo. Paradise Lost is an entire concept album inspired by Milton's poem. The war in heaven, the fall, Adam and Eve's temptation, all that cool stuff. You need to hear Domination, Walls of Babylon, and Seven off of that album. Iconoclast is a sci-fi theme album about transhumanism, the rise of a machine god and war against machines. The newest, Underworld is probably their best album, period. You need to hear Charon, In My Darkest Hour, and Kiss of Fire, Really, almost any song off of those three albums will get non-prog metal fans into this band faster and surer than trying to show off their twenty minute epics or anything from the nineties. Symphony X has gotten better, more metal, less "proggy" with age. Give them another chance, skip the old stuff, go with post 2000 albums. Russel Allen is one of the best singers out there, close to Dio, imo. You're missing out if you don't hear Symphony X's good stuff.
I 100% agree with Underworld, it's Symphony X in their purest form, lots of variation, great lyrics, Romeo absolutely kills it. The only thing i have against it is no real epic. And while i think the album doesn't really need it, it would have been nice. And i think it definitely helps in my calling Underworld their "Fullest" album, i truly feel like there is no filler in it.
@@kateslate3228 I think Paradise Lost, Iconoclast and Underworld don't need an "epic" song because the whole album carries a story, the songs are connected. Unlike Divine Wings and Odyssey, that had a series of totally unrelated songs and then the 20 minute epic title track. Anyway, Underworld is an amazing album. A friend of mine who is way into metal- Lamb of God, Avenged 7fold, thrash Metallica, and who's favorite of all time is Iron Maiden- he heard early Symphony X and was "meh", just like Vin. I told him he needed to hear Underworld first, he listened and was totally blown away, hooked.
Balls to the Walls by Accept please. Metal classic.
Saw them earlier this year, still a great band.
@HQVideoDude He has his own band, hasn't been with them for a while. They're still making records. New music rocks.
@HQVideoDude The front man for Accept is now Mark Tornillo, from TT Quick. Udo Dirkschneider has many great albums with his own U.D.O.
I suggested this one before, it didn't work lol, I hope yours reaches out.
Awesome, my favorite album from them. I haven't heard this in many years.
Love the song, not sure it's a great 1st song to hear for anyone that isn't familiar with the band though (commenting before I see the reaction).
Serpent's Kiss, or Wicked, or Paradise Lost...etc... would probably be a better 1st listen.
Agree
vastly agree. wicked is awesome!
Well...I like what I'm hearing Thus far. So maybe it's not such a bad introduction to the band. Loved the Choir like intro.... :)
Smoke and mirrors would be my intro track for a new prog fan
I've been so busy with Life and work projects - but excellent choice!
The 2 standout sections for me in this song are at around 14:00 - that Riff with Sir Russels vocals - just absolutely slaying it.
And the moment "looking out over the blue sky" - is nearly tear inducing.
In case you like long songs
Equilibrium- Mana
Incredible instrumental. If you like Lord of the Rings, you'll love this.
Lost Horizon-Highlander
One of the greatest vocalists in metal.
Dr Pavel, Im CIA. Although I myself prefer some of Lost Horizon's more shorter songs, especially from their second album - one of the best power metal albums in history.
Great song. My personal favorite and I would highly recommend "When all is Lost" off of Iconoclast. this one is my second favorite from them.
Edge Of Sanity - Crimson
Opeth - Demon of the Fall!!
A song that I would recommend as a fellow Christian myself: Accolade II by Symphony X. One of the most epic songs in my catalog.
Anthrax - In the End, In My World, Indians, Inside Out and What Doesn't Die
A little trivia about the "Metallica" part. The riff is from "Am I Evil" which was originally done by Diamond Head, who lifted it from the beginning of "Mars, the Bringer of War", from English composer Gustav Holst's 'Suite of the Planets'. Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler said that the song 'Black Sabbath' was based on that piece as well. Also, the guitar duel was actually the keyboardist and guitarist trading off solos.
The opening riff is Diamondhead "Am I Evil" just speeded up. That chord progression in medieval times was thought to conjure the devil and was forbidden to play.
It's a Gustav Holst's Mars (The Bringer of War) reference
So many 5, 6, 7 minutes Symphony X songs that you could have chosen and be in awe of their musicianship. I was not a fan of progressive in my beginnings as a musician, but then once I became one I started digging into more and more prog and I love it now. Try their songs King of Terrors 6min, Dragons Den 4min, Out of the ashes 3.4min, Smoke and mirrors 6.9min, or The Sacrifice a love song that Sori will probably love. ;)
Great song to start is,
Symphony X- Inferno (Unleash the fire)
Took me a while to listen to anything else by them.
Then i learned to love Prog.
Symphony X rules!
Awesome vid!!!... I'm the guy who designed their logo and did the art for the album cover!!!...lol... This is their best album i believe...
One word, beautiful!!
Architects "Match in heaven"
Also - it's Gustav Holtz - Mars, from the Planets suite, which was used in this song, Am I Evil by Diamond Head, also Ramses Bringer of War by Nile (and others)
Why you dont you post blackfire anymore? We need more black metal!!
Arch Enemy - We Will Rise + Fields of Desolation (LIVE Tyrants of the Rising Sun)
Ok, after song reaction... I knew they wouldn't care for it.
Vin and Sori...do Symphony X - Wicked...only a 4+ minute-long song, and a killer riff that is in '13' (13/8?) time signature. If you don't like that, you aren't into Symphony X.
Please react to “Fell On Black Days” or “The Day I Tried To Live” by Soundgarden!
If you want a longer Symphony X song check out" The Odyssey" it's 24:00 long.
When the guitars come in it starts out as Mars from the Planets Suite by Holst.
Holy shit! First there was Alice in Chains, Rush, and Metallica in 6th grade. Come 8th grade there was Symphony X, Evergrey, and Pain of Salvation. This album started my musical journey 20 years ago and it hasn't stopped!!! They truly kickstarted my obsession with discovering new metal bands and music in general!
Please do one of these:
Aversions Crown - Erebus
System of a down - soldier side
Phinehas - seven
Or if u want a really powerful song:
Make them suffer - save yourself
You won't get massive amounts of views with this stuff, but it's such high quality music. Engaging and beautiful..
Yes, this will be a hell of a ride! Gonna enjoy every piece of it
*casually working while listening to random music reaction videos"
"Remember that ride at funtown? - The astrosphere?"
Okay 😳 - I guess you are all noming that 🦞 like me. Wasn't ready for that. 😂
For you, as a Pantera fan, its better to start with Serpents Kiss, or Heretic, or Nevermore. People, who love the band, do not usually think about what it would be better for you to start with. They have listened to the band and to the song a lot, they got used to proggy stuff, and they dont feel it might be too song for somebody. If taking long SX song - it should be Odyssey. I think even you might like it. But start with simpler and shorter songs, which I mentioned above. Also, I personally really love the absolute non-prog song from the their last album - Running with the devil.
Bolt Thrower - When Cannons Fade
I definitely wouldn't have chosen this as a first listen! I would've gone for Eyes of Medusa from this album, Fallen, Evolution, In the Dragon's Den, Damnation Game, Masqeurade 98, The New Mythology Suite, The Accolade, Electric Messiah, and so on. Can't deny how much this song and album have in my music heart though!
I highly suggest you check out in flames from the 90s, songs like Dead eternity, December flower , artifacts of the black rain (video)
Oh My LORD, your finally doing my fav band! I was hoping you would have done their song "The Oddessy". If you want somthing shorter and in your face. Listen to Smoke and Mirrors. Or Kiss of Fire. Or Out of the Ashes or Wicked.
Sori … What a stunning woman. love the way she's reacting. no faking. Vin you are a lucky sod. And Vin... . Keep it up. Love this channel.
PLEASE react to chainsaw Charlie(murders in the new morgue) by WASP... you'll get chills...
FLIM FLAM, returned from the bush after 4 days of partying. Was hoping for some BLIND GUARDIAN but this will do for now...
John Petrucci, Michael Romeo, Luca Turilli all itallian guitar dream team
People loves simple riff simple song.
And I love what symphony x does. More prog more passion
The lyrics are pretty much based on passages from "Paradise Lost" by John Milton, they tell the tale of the revelation of Lucifer, war in heaven and his fall to hell.
Suicidal Tendencies - You Can't Bring Me Down
Come on guys, you gotta react to some ST!!
Not sure how you'll like this, considering your focus on lyrics>instrumentation, but I hope you dig it (haven't watched it yet).
Should probably have started with one of their ballads or verse-chorus songs instead, but I personally loved their 10+ minute epics ever since I first heard them.
EDIT: Yeah.. The Odyssey is the superior 20+ minute song. Divine Wings have too many transitions that take a while, and the instrumental sections last for longer than necessary, at times. Don't let this be the last Symphony X song you check out. I'm sure A Winter's Dream pt1+2, Candlelight Fantasia, Smoke and Mirrors, Evolution, King of Terrors, Set the World on Fire etc. would be right up your alley.
Oh and Type O Negative. World Coming Down. Live 1999. I say it alot and it may not happen but im still gonna try my damnedest to get you guys to review it. Plus its a Live video so it takes care of both ends.............seriously.......please........show a guy some love yall.......
Architects - A Match Made In Heaven
Heavy music, heavy lyrics, metal all around. What are you waiting for?
You're not prepared.
Gustav Holst - Mars, The Bringer of War.
Nile - Ramses The Bringer of War.
Listen to these and you will know the similarity with The Divine Wings of Tragedy.
Another funny story about this album is the record label told these guys what elements they wanted in the sound.... they wanted HEAVY Queen, which you picjed up on, but also Impelliteri style guitar sounds and riffs, really fast sweepy stuff, and of course heavy neo classical... so i went Cd shopping with a few of the guys getting some of these bands albums when they were writing this so they made sure they hit all the bases, which they did...lol
Some people like Tolstoy, some people like Dr. Seuss. You can't expect a 10 year old to like Anna Karenina.
the opening riff reminds me of the intro to "Am I evil?"
the beauty of this song is that it takes you places, if you don't like going places in a song then prog is not your thing. Or probably this song is not your thing
I forgot how much "Dune" sounding is the intro of that song.
The impending 100,000th subscriber!!!
I would request more of infant annihilator and cannibal corpse. But I don't want you to get offended by the lyrics lol.
Dying Fetus too 🤘🤘🤘🤘
@@chrisknight8734 and they haven't done fetus yet. I suggested Destroy the Opposition. That or In the trenches. ...
Hey y'all, I just recently started watching reaction videos and stumbled across your feed. I've really enjoyed a lot of the stuff that you put out including a lot of the non reaction videos. I'm wondering if you can tell me how to message you, and how to put your videos chronological order so that I can watch them. If you don't know either, it's all good. 👍

I like some elements of prog and some prog songs, but I definitely would never say "I like prog metal." No question this song was too long. And I listen to some long songs; 15, 20 min, half hour songs (heck I've listened to Bell Witch's "Mirror Reaper", which is basically a one 90 minute track album).
My criteria for if a song is too long: could it have been shorter without losing anything? If it would lose something of what makes it a good song, it needs to stay the same length. But if segments could be taken out or greatly shortened without harming the song, it's too long. This song is definitely in the latter category. They could still do all of their prog-y sounds, guitar work, and transitions; just not go so far with it.
Accolade II by Symphony X if you're looking into something more melodic or less technical, while retaining raw epicness.
Fantastic. Love prog and technical (death) metal. Unexpect is also an amazing guitar prog Jazzfusionpopmetalrockclassic band. You should try something of them sometime.
One of my favs from this band
Please react to Chthonic - Quell the Souls in Sing Ling Temple
"Here you go Mathew Winter" 🤣
TERRIBLE pick for a first Symphony X song. They have much better songs that are much shorter and less self-indulgent. Sorry, Patreon, but ya'll fucking blew it with this pick.
Such a great band.
I also want to say there are modern reports of Fata Morgana. The first one that comes to mind was seen in China. It was a floating city in the sky.
Haggard - The final Victory!!
Rhapsody- Under the rain of the thousands flames, Dawn of Victory
Stratovarius- Visions; will the sun rise
Is that Anchorhead in the intro?
When someone is commenting, talking about, reviewing etc. some art, whether it is a song, a movie, a novel or a poem, and the first thing is complaint about lenght or running time, well you hear everyhing you need to know about relevance of their opinion... From that moment it becomes trivial.
Loved this one. And not just for the sake of its progressivity, but because it kept my interest up to the end. As already said, a song like this might not be the best starting point for those, who aren’t already deep into prog.
More progressive greatness to react to: Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Tarkus.
Yes, it’s almost 21 minutes, but worth of every minute of it. The musicianship is simply awesome.
You gotta do this..!! Please try
Avantasia - The Scarecrow (The flying opera live)
Ensiferum - In my Sword I trust
Iced Earth - Angels Holocaust

The beginning metal riff is not inspired by Metallica or Diamond Head, it's from "The Planets" a seven-movement orchestral suite by the English composer Gustav Holst, written between 1914 and 1916. Each movement of the suite is named after a planet of the Solar System and its corresponding astrological character as defined by Holst. The movement that Symphony X covered is the first, "Mars, the bringer of War"

Progressive Metal is and acquired taste. You have to start in Prog Rock to be familiarized with. Not that you cannot get it, even though people say that you have to be a musician to get it...that is a plus if you're so....but to feel how things flow and with the precognition that, based in Prog Rock, it will be a journey. As many your ground stands on Prog Rock...the easier will be to assimilate Prog Metal. You don't have to be a connosieur of Prog Rock, but just to have a solid foundation of what Progressive Rock is, sounds, feels, tastes, and touches you. Keep up the good work. It is a good recommendation from the Alliance, however not a starting point for this amazing band. Cheers Sin and Vori!!
