This video was created for the sake of creating it. It didn't feature any skins, the character didn't get a rework in his mechanics, it's just an animated song about a cursed mummy and really, sometimes some of us feel the same way, during dark hours of our lives.
this is why I love pre-tencent riot. its actually packed with quality and content, not cashgrabbing fluff.
Season 1-5 Riot was nice. Not gamewise, but decision making for random things. April Fools jokes, claiming a manatee would be in the game, then actually turning it into URF we know now, Get Jinxed, 2014 Warriors, Pentakill, DJ Sona, and all their media decisions. That was absolutely how you build a community correctly.
Not to mention the pretty fire reveals for champs in the day. Like, absolute hot fire. Bard, Jinx, Lucian and Thresh, Jhin, even Yasuo.
Like for the past ones (Yone, Yuumi, Samira, etc.) there’s no build. No extra lore expansion, no spoilers, no teases, no cinematics like Warwick’s rework, no hype. Like all we get now is maybe 3 weeks advanced notice in a small sample of gameplay, then the champion spotlight comes out. Meanwhile everyone on the PBE already spoiled everything and saying they’re broken.

@@renhipolito3947 doesn't really kill with one touch. Look more like a decease that destroy the living cells and grow up to the rest of the body. Because in the lore the man that tell the story have survived the touch of amumu seemingly by getting rid of his arm.

So Amumu is, as you described him, a folk tale sort of character. He was a prince from this place called Shurima, but his curse means that anyone he touches withers away. He's a pretty mysterious champion, and a lot of his origins are still unknown, but this video gives you the general gist of it.
I'd recommend checking out the 'Tales of Runeterra' series if you want to learn a bit more. They're a set of non-musical but really cool cinematics that give a good feel for each of the major regions in League of Legends, although they haven't gotten to every region yet.
He never gets a friend, he's crying in literally every official game art he's in. Even in the Christmas one he's all alone and looking in the window of the other characters. One of his abilities is a pool of tears that deals damage to everyone around him.

I’ve always loved how this song almost never fails to make emotional. The feels are strong
In game, one of Amumu's ability is literally him crying until his energy runs out, and his ultimate ability is the tantrum shown here. So, sadly that's why his lore can't progress because if they give him a friend he would no longer weep and throw tantrums.

Actually Wicked Tantrum is one of his base abilities. Curse of the Sad Mummy is his ultimate. He actuality never uses Wicked Tantrum in this video, but he does use Bandage Toss and his crying move
but what if there is no curse and he just thinks there is one, what if he "just" has a depression, when u are depressed u also feel like u cant have friends, and that u are cursed
@@anadonner4685 I don't think this is the explanation, my interpretation is that he died from a REALLY contagious plague and now, his plague turned into a sort of curse kills anything he touches

Amumu has always been one of my favorites. In game and in lore.
The fact they made an MV over him just cemented his status. Especially since it’s one of the best ones, albeit underrated.
Edit: the little touch near the end where Amumu’s in the streets. Where all the lights of the houses slowly start going out while it looks like the dark wisps are comforting him - MY god is that so nice of a visual touch.

Great breakdown as always, So after the events of this, Amumu spent many years alone wandering the world, eventually he would be found and asked to join the League of Legends and fight, I believe he does eventually make a friend in Annie, a magical girl with a VERY special bear, you can find out more about her and her tragic backstory in the ''Annie:Origins'' video, and it is great, I do recommend checking it out.

Where does it say that? Wasn't the issue with Amumu that literally every living thing he gets near withers away and dies? That's why he's completely unable to make friends. I don't recall him and Annie ever meeting in the lore.
You are thinking of the old lore, in the current lore he remains alone. Every living thing eh goes near dies, he physically can’t get close to anyone

Amumu was cursed with The withering and destuction of anything he touches. He then traveled around trying to find a friend in a larger town and destroyed it and ever since people have stayed away from him. His story hasn't really been expanded. But he did make a friend, Annie the Dark Child.

I think he'd love the new dawn cinematic, not a music video but it's one of those cinematics that makes you wish Riot would just make a movie.
To this day, Amumu boy walks over all the land crying for his loneliness, sometimes there is no good ending. Tragic story.

amumu is also a folk lore within the game's lore that people in the middle east/egypt equivalent area in Runeterra (where all league of legends lore takes place) tell to their children
The story of Amumu is very much one of many sad stories.
League used to have this old form of lore where the players were referred to as Summoners. There was a Institute of War that housed the Champions and Amumu was one of the residents. It also seem to have a established story of Amumu being a prince before dying and coming back. Now, 2014 has passed and he might be a prince who killed his friend by accident, a evil ruler who's trying to make amends of his actions or a Yordle trying to find a good person.

Riot Games made a classical album, The Sound of Runeterra and made an hour documentary for it. For me, being a classically trained musician, it was exceptionally beautiful. Even brought a little tear to my eye

Watch the Astartes part 1-5 supercut. I PROMISE that thing is beyond fire, easily some of the best animation I've ever seen and it's extremely brutal and badass too. You can only lose by not seeing it

The specific ones coming to mind are Regifted Amumu (dressed as an unwanted present), Surprise party Amumu (Dressed up for the party but seen outside in the rain through the window while everyone else celebrates), and Almost Prom King Amumu.

The animation is meant to kinda replicate the old pop up story books, and the song is the story. So you saying it reminds you of folk and a bed time story is pretty accurate. BTW, amumu is cursed to never die, but anyone near him or whoever he touches will slowly die so he is literally forever alone. And eventually the loneliness drives him mad and he throws a tantrum destroying everything around him and he simply cant control himself. That ledge of hope was as you described, a physical ledge, one which people jump off of to commit suicide because he is so sad and so alone he doesnt want to live anymore, but he cant die and cant kill himself so he has no hope of salvation. Thats the story, nothing else after that. He is just cursed to live forever and alone for all eternity. The end.
There's a song barely anybody recommends bc I guess it wasnt exactly a Riot made song (I think it's from the community?) But they released it on their channel for the rework of Nunu & Willump. It's another folklore-y song, but the complete opposite vibe from curse of the sad mummy LMAO.

Amumu was cursed in an unkown time to always be alone. Anything physically close to him will wither and die. Amumu is super sad and depressed because any living being dies by virtue of him existing. The video shows his abilities. Crying is his w that deals continuous damage around him and tantrum is his e that deals damage around him again.
Amumu's skuns are sad too. One is even him being stood up for prom. Amumu is just... Sad

Not even League's version of death wants to go around Amumu. Death (called Kindred in League) was very lonely at one time so they understand loneliness but they still didn't want to be his friend.

Thing about Amumu, even the Kindred, League's dualistic incarnation of *Death,* would really prefer not to stress test how strong his Touch of Withering curse is and tell him to stay back in game.
