  • In this video, I will show you how to separate neutrals and grounds in a Crouse-Hinds electric panel. The reason for this is that I am installing a Generac switch box to tie our generator to the electric panel. The switch box will become our first means of disconnect and there the neutrals are tied to the ground bus bar. That is because neutrals carrying the electrical current back will have multiple paths to get rid of the electrical current. The panel in the garage will then become a sub-panel. Sub-panels need to have neutrals and grounds separated. This video is to help my viewer to fix it themselves and to help instill confidence in one's own ability to do so.

The instruction sheet for the bus bar wasn't real clear but didn't you mount the new bus bar upside down? I'd think that hole in the middle of the mounting plate was meant to go over the head of the panel mounting bolt so the connections are closer to the side wall of the panel. Just spitballing. PS: Getting ready to run 3/4" conduit with four 6 AWG THHN wires for a heat pump. Thought I was all set until I saw you put insulated bushings on a threaded connector in one of your videos. Thanks for the tip!

If the bus bars are Bonded with 4 gauge wire, then isn't that the same as them all being connected to the same bus bar? I'm a little confused becauses if they are bonded. That mean if they are connected. They become as one. So why separate the copper ground wires from the white neutral wires if they are connected to the same bar? In your generac Installation video, you said the inspector told you The extra cooper ground wire was not needed going to into the sub panel from the Transfer switch.. I'm assuming that's The Wire you ran to the extra bus bar That's bonded to the neutral bar both Inside the sub panel and the transfer switch. He told you the The Neutral was good enough. I'm just wondering if all of these bonds are connected. I don't see any reason to separate the copper ground wires from the neutral wires....I'm only asking because I'm getting ready to install a generac myself. Any advise would be great. Thanks
