I love how each of the Big Three's solo movies all have their own unique style. It really set the stage for a satisfying payoff in Avengers seeing them all together interacting.
@@suryasingh9738 they weren't allowed to make any Hulk sequels. Universal Studios held the rights to the Hulk and they only agreed to let him appear in the MCU in other characters' movies. Disney only got the rights to the Hulk after Endgame was released.
As good as the first movie was, I feel Winter Soldier was the definitive moment where Cap moves most like how I envisioned from comics. I really like how a lot of the melee fighters are depicted through the MCU while Fox characters like Wolverine always felt cheap with their wirework feel. I can't wait to see the next X-Men properly in action.

My all time favorite super hero movie. Just because you see his struggle. You see he isn’t over powered right away, and he has to gain his respect of his peers. Nothing is given to captain America and by the end, he sacrifices himself even when everyone doubted him.

How strong he is varies a lot both in the films and in the comics. In most stories he's shown as an "improved" human, not in the same category as Thor, iron man, or the Hulk. He can't do things that a normal human couldn't do, but he can do most things (running, jumping, and especially fighting) better than a normal human would. What really sets him apart is that even before the process, he was patriotic and determined, hated bullies, was smart enough to figure out how to get the flag, and brave enough to throw himself on a grenade (and Peggy was ready to do the same thing). IOW he already had the qualities of a hero, except power. That's why Erskine picked him.
Schmitt was Captain America's longest running enemy, the Red Skull, and he was played to perfection in this movie, but just a hint... he'll be back, but not how you'd expect. The goofy looking crony of the Red Skull is also a bit of a major enemy to Cap, Arnim Zola. He'll also be back, and also not like you'd expect. One thing to point out, Neal McDonough, who plays Dum Dum Dugan (the guy with the bowler hat, moustache, and leader of the Howling Commandos that helped Captain America), was also in Band of Brothers as Buck Compton. He was also the voice of Bruce Banner (Hulk) in a video game. Great guy, great actor!
i honestly think it's better to not let them know or drop "hints" if certain characters would come back. none of us knew anything about it back then, so they shouldn't as well to keep their experience of the movies as genuine and spoiler-free as possible.

If you have seen the Indiana Jones movies red skull references how the fuhrer is waisting time looking for trinkets, THAT'S what he's talking about. Also the Hellboy series stems from that. If you haven't seen these would highly recommend.
Yes! My favorite Avenger! He is my definition of a true hero. Even before he was given the serum, he was willing to fight for what's right and give his life if needed. Looking forward to seeing you two watch all the Avengers come together for the first time.

Also, the "Stark" in this film - Howard Stark - is Tony Stark's dad. In the MCU, Tony is born in 1970. There are little lines in future films referring to Steve Rogers and Howard Stark's friendship, etc. which reinforce the two knew each other.
Nice pick up on the "Tesseract's" energy signature being similar to "Tony's miniature arc reactor." There's a moment in the next movie where that's critical. It does insinuate that "Howard" got his reactor ideas from his research on the object.

This is an extremely important detail!!! - Also! The Tesseract was being worked with by Howard Stark! Remember that he left his notebook to Tony in Iron Man 2 and in the book, Tony came across one of the pages with the sketch of the Tesseract on it. This means that Tony knows about the Tesseract - Also a fun detail: Howard Stark and Captain America were coworkers and also friends, so this means that growing up, Tony would have heard of Captain America and knows who he is - Hydra is very important in the 2nd phase of the MCU so just remember them - The next movie is: Marvel’s The Avengers
Steve Rogers post serum has basically peak human physical attributes. Imagine the speed of Usain Bolt, the strength of Bjorn Halfthor, the endurance of a marathon runner, the focus and mental acuity of a chess grand master, and the physical dexterity & accuracy of a world class sniper. He’s not superhuman, per se, but he’s all the best a human can be.
That's true in the comics, but not in the movies. The MCU kept Steve Roger's classic comic book personality but upgraded his physical stats. MCU Cap is actually superhuman, capable of lifting 3-4 tons. MCU Cap was based upon the Ultimate universe (Earth 1610) version of the character, instead of the mainstream Earth 616 version, who was defined as the peak of regular human ability.
@@neospock5034 good point, however I’m trying to think of moments where he displayed that level of strength, and I’m not sure he actually does. Unless I’m missing something, I think his greatest feats of strength in the MCU are preventing the helicopter from taking off in WS, and temporarily holding off Thanos’s punch in A:IW. If anything, I think these display durability more so than raw strength, and humans are actually quite capable of some pretty impressive feats of strength. The reason we don’t use our muscles to their full potential has more to do with the physical damage it could cause our own bodies than a limit of raw power. That being said, even in the comics, Cap’s power levels fluctuate wildly from story to story so that’s not really an accurate guide either. Makes me want to go through the films again to see if I can spot anything else that would give a solid indication of his strength. Science time! Lol

There was a story arc in the 1970s where Cap temporarily gained superhuman strength, but that only lasted for a few issues. Marvel tried to quantify the power levels of their characters by publishing the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe. It's considered the authorititative reference, and states that Cap's maximum overhead lift was 800 lbs (and bench press about 50 percent higher, so 1200 lbs). That maximum did increase to about a ton in recent years, but the Handbook level is accurate for 3-4 decades of published adventures. In the MCU, the helicoter feat is certainly one, another is Cap briefly preventing a car from going over a cliff in Age Of Ultron. The rear bumper broke off in his hands due to the weight and the car fell anyway, but Thor saved the driver. Both Feige and the Russos have confirmed that Cap temprorarily holding off Thanos wasn't really a strength feat. Thanos wasn't exerting himself at all, he momentarily paused because he was shocked at the defiance of this human standing in his way- like an adult reaching for something on a supermarket shelf and seeing a 3-year old reach up to block their hand.
Oh, and the opening scene in Age of Ultron when Steve jumped off his motorcycle and performed the flip/throw into an oncoming HYDRA vehicle. That was pretty impressive too.
Great reaction. And .... if no one has mentioned it yet.... the scene where the grenade is thrown - if you notice, its not just Steve Rodgers that runs towards the grenade. In the background you can see Agent Carter running towards it. She's also a great character in this.

It's not a rumor. The Nazi High command believed in supernatural artifacts. The story of Raiders of the Lost Ark, was not too far from the truth. The Nazis had expeditions to Africa, the Arctic, South America, and the Middle East trying to find supernatural artifacts. Like the spear of destiny.

4:45 I heard that too growing up around some WWII vets back in the late "60's" that Hitler was looking for anything even the occult beliefs. A lot of movies have come n gone since then dealing with supernatural this n that WWII Nazi power. Hell Boy, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Hydra, and half a dozen zombie Nazi soldier based horror flicks. Not to mention a lot of video games.

I love how Steve started looking nervous about the experiment when he saw Howard Stark was running the show cause he remembered the faulty hover car from the Expo lololol I believe Hitler was very obsessed with searching for different artifacts of the occult if im not mistaken. One common theory ive heard was that the Nazis found the Spear of Destiny, the spear used to pierce Jesus' side after he died on the cross, and chalked up Hitler's success to his possession of it. Then when his decline of success became more and more apparent, it was believed that the Nazis somehow lost the Spear, or it was taken from them

I loved that, like with Iron Man, they used a lot of the original origin story concepts, with obvious changes since the Captain America comic first came out in 1941 and there were changes made for the alternative tech that the Red Skull (who also was in the original stories in 1941) used as well as linking the story to the other movies via the tessaract. Howard Stark is Tony's dad for story continuity reasons, even if it seems all but impossible for a guy who had to have been born in the 19teens or at the latest early twenties to be the age he is in WWII to have had a kid who is Tony's age. But so much of the future movie storylines only mesh if Howard is Tony's dad, so just run with it. Like I have said before elsewhere, they used Tony Stark-Iron Man's origin story as is from the original comic, but just updated from the Vietnam War (which makes perfect sense time wise for a dad who was involved in WWII) to the Persian Gulf Wars to match the modern timeline.

Early on in the show his powers are superhuman strength speed agility healing factor being faster than normal as a result he is also has a fast metabolism and can't really get drunk He is a resistant to several forms of toxins and gases but his mind also was boosted He has a photographic memory He faster than normal abilities for thought processing a lot of people can think on the fly but his level is otherworldly. And the comics and later in the Marvel series as he adapts to the new future world he wakes up in he studies and becomes a master of virtually every form of hand to hand combat and trains with virtually every weapon. He also learns several languages the serum does help him age slowly however being trapped in the ice is superhuman body allowed him to survive the freezing and thawing of an ice block and also the ice allowed him to skip several years of aging so combine that with his slower than normal aging and he is capable of living a very long life. All of this being said even with his fast healing factor It is very possible to kill him but you've got to be really really good and really really lucky if you think you're going to catch him off guard.
Hitler was very enamored with the occult, and he collected a lot of memorabilia from his enemies and stashed it away, and they say train loads of gold and old statues and vintage of Picasso paintings and stuff like that that I’ve still never been found to this day. @@spikeinmadness5005 in the comics it's not a problem because Iron Man (along with Spider-Man, The Fantastic Four, Hulk Ant-Man and most other characters) was introduced in the 1960s, and Cap was only frozen for about 20 years when the Avengers discovered him. The MCU moving the timeframe for iron Man's origin and the discovery of frozen Captain America into the 2000s makes Howard Stark being a young man during WW2 problematic, But it's something we just let slide.
For more movies on Hitler's pursuit of ancient and alien antiquities try the Indian Jones trilogy with Harrison Ford. And if you like agent Carter, she had her own short miniseries that takes place right after WWII ended.
All of these characters have a character arc that spans many movies. Pay attention, they go through changes. The good thing about Chris Evans’ performance is that no matter what the character goes through, you never lose contact with that skinny kid inside. As he gets more jaded, you can still feel that skinny kid inside shaking his fist at bullies. “What makes you so special?” “I'm just a kid from Brooklyn.” This is an important concept from Marvel comics. The villains think the world owes them power because they are special. The heroes are constantly trying to prove that they deserve the power that they have. The vibranium in that shield comes from a special place you will learn about later.

The more I watch this, the more I think it's the best movie in the entire MCU. By the way, the part where they showed his talent at drawing was a shout out to the comics. At one time, his day job was working as the artist drawing the Captain America comics.
at the start, where he transforms and then he chases the bad guy, when the cab crashes, that he's on top of, he grabs the door to use as a shield. the cab door has a star on it.

When I heard that Chris Evans got the role, I thought, 'He just can't stay away from Marvel.'
And at Howard's Expo you can see the android body of the Golden Era Human Torch on display. Which in the comics was later used to build Vision.

Himmler was definitely interested in the Occult, Hitler took a passing interest, but was never quite the fanatic that Himmler was.

He can't do things that a normal human couldn't do, but he can do most things (running, jumping, and especially fighting) better than a normal human would.
What really sets him apart is that even before the process, he was patriotic and determined, hated bullies, was smart enough to figure out how to get the flag, and brave enough to throw himself on a grenade (and Peggy was ready to do the same thing). IOW he already had the qualities of a hero, except power. That's why Erskine picked him.
They usually describe him as "peak human specimen" or something like that. If he was in the Olympics, he could probably win every single gold medal.
Steve held the most crucially important part to making the serum work: his heart.
The serum would’ve worked either way. It also amplifies your morals so they didn’t wanna give it to anyone

Schmitt was Captain America's longest running enemy, the Red Skull, and he was played to perfection in this movie, but just a hint... he'll be back, but not how you'd expect. The goofy looking crony of the Red Skull is also a bit of a major enemy to Cap, Arnim Zola. He'll also be back, and also not like you'd expect.
One thing to point out, Neal McDonough, who plays Dum Dum Dugan (the guy with the bowler hat, moustache, and leader of the Howling Commandos that helped Captain America), was also in Band of Brothers as Buck Compton. He was also the voice of Bruce Banner (Hulk) in a video game. Great guy, great actor!
i honestly think it's better to not let them know or drop "hints" if certain characters would come back. none of us knew anything about it back then, so they shouldn't as well to keep their experience of the movies as genuine and spoiler-free as possible.
You are correct about the Nazis. Hitler was obsessed with the occult. If you have seen the Indiana Jones movies red skull references how the fuhrer is waisting time looking for trinkets, THAT'S what he's talking about. Also the Hellboy series stems from that. If you haven't seen these would highly recommend.

This is easily one of the most underrated and underappreciated MCU films, but one of my favorites. As the little guy, Steve is totally relatable.

Also, the "Stark" in this film - Howard Stark - is Tony Stark's dad. In the MCU, Tony is born in 1970. There are little lines in future films referring to Steve Rogers and Howard Stark's friendship, etc. which reinforce the two knew each other.
I love how Erskine mirrors Yinsen in first Iron Man film. A older doctor, who helps and gives the final push for protagonist to become a hero.
Nice pick up on the "Tesseract's" energy signature being similar to "Tony's miniature arc reactor." There's a moment in the next movie where that's critical. It does insinuate that "Howard" got his reactor ideas from his research on the object.
- At 6:21 Steve’s eyes open similar to how Bruce’s eyes opened in The Incredible Hulk, remember that Captain America happened before Bruce was alive, so this was the origin for the super soldier serum
- Please make sure you remember that when the Red Skull grabbed the Tesseract, it opened a portal to Space! This is an extremely important detail!!!
- Also! The Tesseract was being worked with by Howard Stark! Remember that he left his notebook to Tony in Iron Man 2 and in the book, Tony came across one of the pages with the sketch of the Tesseract on it. This means that Tony knows about the Tesseract
- Also a fun detail: Howard Stark and Captain America were coworkers and also friends, so this means that growing up, Tony would have heard of Captain America and knows who he is
- Hydra is very important in the 2nd phase of the MCU so just remember them

Steve Rogers post serum has basically peak human physical attributes. Imagine the speed of Usain Bolt, the strength of Bjorn Halfthor, the endurance of a marathon runner, the focus and mental acuity of a chess grand master, and the physical dexterity & accuracy of a world class sniper. He’s not superhuman, per se, but he’s all the best a human can be.
That's true in the comics, but not in the movies. The MCU kept Steve Roger's classic comic book personality but upgraded his physical stats. MCU Cap is actually superhuman, capable of lifting 3-4 tons. MCU Cap was based upon the Ultimate universe (Earth 1610) version of the character, instead of the mainstream Earth 616 version, who was defined as the peak of regular human ability.
@@neospock5034 good point, however I’m trying to think of moments where he displayed that level of strength, and I’m not sure he actually does. Unless I’m missing something, I think his greatest feats of strength in the MCU are preventing the helicopter from taking off in WS, and temporarily holding off Thanos’s punch in A:IW. If anything, I think these display durability more so than raw strength, and humans are actually quite capable of some pretty impressive feats of strength. The reason we don’t use our muscles to their full potential has more to do with the physical damage it could cause our own bodies than a limit of raw power. That being said, even in the comics, Cap’s power levels fluctuate wildly from story to story so that’s not really an accurate guide either. Makes me want to go through the films again to see if I can spot anything else that would give a solid indication of his strength. Science time! Lol
@@calibadgerdude6082 well in the 1960s-2000s comics, depictions of Cap's strength did fluctuate depending upon the artist/writer team, but he was always understood to be the peak of regular human physical ability, none of his physical attributes (except endurance) were at superhuman levels, just superior to the best Olympic athletes who ever competed. There was a story arc in the 1970s where Cap temporarily gained superhuman strength, but that only lasted for a few issues.
Marvel tried to quantify the power levels of their characters by publishing the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe. It's considered the authorititative reference, and states that Cap's maximum overhead lift was 800 lbs (and bench press about 50 percent higher, so 1200 lbs). That maximum did increase to about a ton in recent years, but the Handbook level is accurate for 3-4 decades of published adventures.
In the MCU, the helicoter feat is certainly one, another is Cap briefly preventing a car from going over a cliff in Age Of Ultron. The rear bumper broke off in his hands due to the weight and the car fell anyway, but Thor saved the driver.
Both Feige and the Russos have confirmed that Cap temprorarily holding off Thanos wasn't really a strength feat. Thanos wasn't exerting himself at all, he momentarily paused because he was shocked at the defiance of this human standing in his way- like an adult reaching for something on a supermarket shelf and seeing a 3-year old reach up to block their hand.
Oh, and the opening scene in Age of Ultron when Steve jumped off his motorcycle and performed the flip/throw into an oncoming HYDRA vehicle. That was pretty impressive too.
Great reaction. And .... if no one has mentioned it yet.... the scene where the grenade is thrown - if you notice, its not just Steve Rodgers that runs towards the grenade. In the background you can see Agent Carter running towards it. She's also a great character in this.
yep-Captain Carter-she would have been a good choice for super soldier serum, maybe even better than Rogers-since the serum makes what u already have better-at least physically Captain Carter mite even be stronger than Captain America-if u go literally by how the serum is described to work

It's not a rumor. The Nazi High command believed in supernatural artifacts. The story of Raiders of the Lost Ark, was not too far from the truth. The Nazis had expeditions to Africa, the Arctic, South America, and the Middle East trying to find supernatural artifacts. Like the spear of destiny.

Howard is Tony's daddy. The relationship of "Howard & Steve" vs "Howard & Tony" plays a major role in future movies, including the next one, The Avengers.

I heard that too growing up around some WWII vets back in the late "60's" that Hitler was looking for anything even the occult beliefs.
A lot of movies have come n gone since then dealing with supernatural this n that WWII Nazi power. Hell Boy, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Hydra, and half a dozen zombie Nazi soldier based horror flicks. Not to mention a lot of video games.

I believe Hitler was very obsessed with searching for different artifacts of the occult if im not mistaken. One common theory ive heard was that the Nazis found the Spear of Destiny, the spear used to pierce Jesus' side after he died on the cross, and chalked up Hitler's success to his possession of it. Then when his decline of success became more and more apparent, it was believed that the Nazis somehow lost the Spear, or it was taken from them

Captain America was an awesome movie. I loved that, like with Iron Man, they used a lot of the original origin story concepts, with obvious changes since the Captain America comic first came out in 1941 and there were changes made for the alternative tech that the Red Skull (who also was in the original stories in 1941) used as well as linking the story to the other movies via the tessaract.
Howard Stark is Tony's dad for story continuity reasons, even if it seems all but impossible for a guy who had to have been born in the 19teens or at the latest early twenties to be the age he is in WWII to have had a kid who is Tony's age. But so much of the future movie storylines only mesh if Howard is Tony's dad, so just run with it. Like I have said before elsewhere, they used Tony Stark-Iron Man's origin story as is from the original comic, but just updated from the Vietnam War (which makes perfect sense time wise for a dad who was involved in WWII) to the Persian Gulf Wars to match the modern timeline.

Also, it was during the war. Cap doesn't use a gun otherwise.
Early on in the show his powers are superhuman strength speed agility healing factor being faster than normal as a result he is also has a fast metabolism and can't really get drunk He is a resistant to several forms of toxins and gases but his mind also was boosted He has a photographic memory He faster than normal abilities for thought processing a lot of people can think on the fly but his level is otherworldly. And the comics and later in the Marvel series as he adapts to the new future world he wakes up in he studies and becomes a master of virtually every form of hand to hand combat and trains with virtually every weapon. He also learns several languages the serum does help him age slowly however being trapped in the ice is superhuman body allowed him to survive the freezing and thawing of an ice block and also the ice allowed him to skip several years of aging so combine that with his slower than normal aging and he is capable of living a very long life. All of this being said even with his fast healing factor It is very possible to kill him but you've got to be really really good and really really lucky if you think you're going to catch him off guard.
Hitler was very enamored with the occult, and he collected a lot of memorabilia from his enemies and stashed it away, and they say train loads of gold and old statues and vintage of Picasso paintings and stuff like that that I’ve still never been found to this day. But of course, the most famous movie of the Hitler era was the Raiders of the lost Ark/Indiana Jones movies

@@spikeinmadness5005 in the comics it's not a problem because Iron Man (along with Spider-Man, The Fantastic Four, Hulk Ant-Man and most other characters) was introduced in the 1960s, and Cap was only frozen for about 20 years when the Avengers discovered him.
The MCU moving the timeframe for iron Man's origin and the discovery of frozen Captain America into the 2000s makes Howard Stark being a young man during WW2 problematic, But it's something we just let slide.

All of these characters have a character arc that spans many movies. Pay attention, they go through changes. The good thing about Chris Evans’ performance is that no matter what the character goes through, you never lose contact with that skinny kid inside. As he gets more jaded, you can still feel that skinny kid inside shaking his fist at bullies.

This is an important concept from Marvel comics. The villains think the world owes them power because they are special. The heroes are constantly trying to prove that they deserve the power that they have.
The vibranium in that shield comes from a special place you will learn about later.

The more I watch this, the more I think it's the best movie in the entire MCU. By the way, the part where they showed his talent at drawing was a shout out to the comics. At one time, his day job was working as the artist drawing the Captain America comics.

And Howard Stark is Tony's father, This movie takes place between 1942 and 1943 when Howard Stark was in his mid 20's, Tony was born around 1971, when Howard was like 51/53 years old. Tony in the first Iron Man movie, was almost 35 years old, give or take.
