I guess the filmmakers thought that adding a few more minutes of Strange figuring things out would be boring for the audiences, but I think that it would've explained how Strange grew so much in a seemingly short time span - in Doctor Strange he barely begins to understand magic, while in the very next movie - Infinity War, he's one of the greatest sorcerers out there, being able to stand on his own against Thanos (already a very powerful character) AND his Infinity stones.

@@TaunTaunTundra4477 - They were originally titled Avengers Infinity War: Part 1 & Avengers Infinity War: Part 2, but they later changed the second one to Endgame because although they are two halves of the whole story, tonally they are very different films (which is very evident relatively early on).
But it's just the orchestration of what they accomplished in Infinity War that we hadn't had to that extent before (Civil War was a tease), and the overall story without going into spoilers is just the more impressive to me. But on the same accord you can't have the one without Endgame, so they need to be seen together alltold. And Endgame is outstanding and unrivaled!

I suppose there can be an exception for the sake of a doctor - which he is - doing medical research - which he is in fact doing.
But yeah. They violate laws and the constitution all the time in the MCU:
Nick Fury breaks into Tony's house and tampers with his security system in IM1.
General Ross does more illegal things in Hulk than I can even list here.
Senator Stearns tries to steal Tony's property in IM2.
SHIELD (Fury and Coulson) essentially put Tony under house arrest with no warrant, no charges filed, no due process at all. Coulson even threatened him with violence in IM2.
SHIELD (Coulson) seizes property from Dr. Foster and Dr. Selvig (and Darcy's iPod) without a warrant in Thor.
Coulson trespasses into Stark Tower in Avengers.
A secret society (who are they?) tries to nuke New York in Avengers.
And that's all just Phase One!

This movie really honors the source material. Dr Strange is one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel universe, yet he goes very far out of his way to find non-violent solutions.
One of the sorcerers who got killed in this movie is the brother of another Marvel hero named Brother Blood, who was Sorcerer Supreme for a time.
That staircase with the circle window at the top is one of the most famous locations in the Marvel universe.
The movie doesn't make this clear, but in the endless looped time sequence, Strange is learning a lot of magic through trial and error.

I think their question was if Doctor Strange was using the "green stone" to reverse time, then how did Kaecilius and his followers also break free of it and move forward while time was going backward (during the fight in the streets of Hong Kong). It is a valid question.

    • @a_fine_edition2746
      @a_fine_edition2746 Před rokem +3

@testfire3000 it is definitely a fair question, but I think it can be explained by paying very close attention to how Dormammu works, and the ritual Kaceilius and his zealots undertook. Dormammu exists in the Dark Dimension, a realm beyond time, and Kaecilius used the stolen pages “to contact Dormammu and draw power from the Dark Dimension.” So it would seem that being somewhat immune to temporal effects is part of their powerset as a result of drawing power from Dormammu’s realm, which exists outside of time.

    • @testfire3000
      @testfire3000 Před rokem +2

@@a_fine_edition2746 Which then brings the next question: If Kaecilius and other minions of Dormammu were able to use the power of the Dark Dimension to break free from a time spell, then how come Dormammu *himself* could not?
The answer of course is that these are comic book movies and not everything is going to be 100% logical. They just happened to ask one question that isn't really apparent. The correct answer to both questions can be either "Because magic" or "Because the plot required it".
I am personally not troubled by it. I thought the street fight in reverse time with explosions and crashing things happening backwards was some of the coolest action sequences I have seen in a while. No complaints here!

Scott Derrickson directed this movie. He specializes in the horror genre. So there were certain elements that were deemed “scary” to an extent - from the extended hands to the tipped mop jolting Christine.
One of the things I liked the most about this movie was the all-star cast that we got. Benedict Cumberbatch wanted to join the MCU, but he wanted a role that sparked his interest.
Scott Adkins, the actor who portrayed Lucian (the guy that Strange fought in ghost form) is a pro-level martial artist. He’s done Tae Kwon Do, kickboxing, Krav Maga, karate, aikido, and jujutsu among other styles.
The prelude comic tied to this film focuses on Kaecillius. His origin story that Mordo told Strange while they sparred is further explained there.
    Five down, one to go.
This film was just wrapping up production while Thor: Ragnarok was just getting started. So they decided it would be a good way to bring both Strange and Thor together.

Dr. Strange and the mystic arts gave so much possibilities of dimentions and magic. i wish we get to explore more of him and what he does to protect the world. He died thousands of times, and with his photographic memory, he would remember all of that. plus no one in the avengers even know of this threat that happened which could end them.

Of all the movies prior to this one this was certainly the most trippy as it was MCU’s first introduction to magic and mysticism and not the kind you’d see in a Thor movie.
In a lot of ways Strange is similar to Iron Man yet the key difference is, unlike Tony, Strange eventually learns he cannot have it all. He starts off a pompous successful big name that thinks he’s the centre of the universe only to suffer a tragedy that makes him lose everything his wealth his reputation Christine when he has nothing he builds himself back up and realizes what he believed in was wrong. He admits he was wrong tries to do better. Both as a sorcerer and a person.
Him defeating Dormammu was hilarious. He didn’t try to fight him instead he traps him in a time loop sacrificing himself over and over dying multiple times all so Dormammu would agree to his terms.
A well rounded movie that opens a lot of potential for the franchise’s later projects.

There's a connection to Civil War in this film; when Strange is on the phone just before the crash, he declines to take a case regarding a 'spinal cord injury on a 35-year-old Air Force Lieutenant Colonel.'

The ancient one actually only slowed time in that moment when she was talking to Strange, and she'd slowed down time because she was afraid of dying, but knew she was about to. Time functions normally (as long as nobody's fucking with the time stone) under most conditions, but in that instance, she just wanted a little bit more time to see the snow.

Keep in mind Doctor Strange has been around for decades, if there is an influence Tenet and Inception are influenced by Doctor Strange. The Time Stone can't be used just willy nilly. There are consequences and difficulties involved. It takes effort even for the smallest of tasks.

27:13 If I understood your question, I believe you are talking about two slightly separate things happening.
The talk they had in their astral forms took place in those brief seconds before the *Ancient One* died. IMO it is simply how the audience was able to perceive that conversation.
Yes, they were both on the astral plane while talking, but I do not believe it is a power that simply happens when you jump to the astral plane. I feel it was a special situation, because the *Ancient One* was dying.
At least, that's my take. 🤷🏼‍♂️
