Cardigan is from Betty’s perspective. I’m pretty sure this is an older Betty looking back on her experience. The way I was first introduced to this trilogy is Cardigan, Betty, August. All these songs are awesome on their own but as a trilogy, I’m obsessed.

Not a story of her life but part of her little folklore trilogy. Most of the album with the exception of My Tears Ricochet are mostly fictional.

I would count the following Folklore tracks as also not fictional: Mirrorball, Seven, Invisible String, Mad Woman, Epiphany, Peace, Hoax, The Lakes, and even The Last Great American Dynasty!
@@AstroBaby91 I feel the same, especially with the lyric "once in 20 lifetimes" (reminds me of "have I known you 20 seconds, or 20 years"). Or I wonder if it started out as a song about Joe, then it kind of changed as the album came together. The original voice memo she sent Aaron of this track had slightly different lyrics, and some of those original lyrics also made me think of Joe: "But I knew you, Living in a *gold* age, Sneaking to my bird cage." And finally, if it's fictional, why does she say, "Sequin smile, black lipstick, Sensual politics"? This is clearly a reference to Reputation and Lover, right???

You guys are a little off, this song is part of a teenage love triangle, Cardigan is from Betty's POV, August is the other girl's POV, and the song Betty is from the POV of James. No older guy, just a stupid teenage boy. The one thing that is consistent in this MV is the piano, Taylor's lifeline.
There’s better ways of saying that without coming off as an arrogant prick, Violet. They can figure it out on their own. They don’t need you to solve everything for them just because your life is all things Taylor.
@@judeless77 WOW, I said they were a little off, how is that coming off as being arrogant? I gave them information about the love triangle just as others had done when they were new to Taylor's folklore and evermore albums. You seem to have some issues. I am a 65 yr. old woman who is a fan, but my life does not revolve around Taylor. Besides my husband we are raising our grandson who is autistic, physically 16 mentally about 8/9, we have 10 cats and 3 dogs. So I stay fairly busy. You should be ashamed of yourself for calling an old lady a pr!ck.

Only a sequel to the video... not a continuation of the story. Willow and Cardigan have nothing in common with each other lyrically. But yes, they tied the music videos together.
