Yeah I heard of them and they’re also on my list. Cool to see that the members found their own way after Kurt passed. Hate to see talent go to waste like Queen did after Freddie’s death

With the Beatles comparison, Kurt loved the Beatles and a fun fact. When having to add extra vocals to tracks, Butch Vigg would tell Kurt that the Beatles did it so he'd be less stubborn and go through with it
Kurt played all the rhythm and lead guitar parts, in the studio. The lead guitar is double-tracked, with both tracks bussed to an aux channel with a flanger insert on the aux bus. The rhythm guitars are also multi-tracked, at LEAST twice. I can’t recall what it was anymore, but they used an interesting blend of amplifiers on the guitars to give them that saturation. Later on, on tour, they recruited guitarist Pat Smear from the Germs to play rhythm guitar whilst Kurt would solo..or make other, less musical, sounds with his guitar.
gives a similar vibe to one of their super super early "music videos" where instead of a smoke machine they have a guy blowing cigarrete smoke in front of the camera
Definitely listen to the other albums as well! They all got great touches! 26:23 Krist Novoselic is the Bassist. Super ahead of his time. Maybe not the most elaborate, but the Best bassist of the Genre in my opinion.
Butch Vig who produced the album preferred the songs to sound "larger than life" as in more massive with double tracked vocals and more guitar tracks than would be possible for the trio to perform live. Kurt liked his studio recordings to mirror what they sound like live, so very bare bones production. First Kurt didn't want to double track vocals and record so many guitar tracks but Butch either persuaded him by saying John Lennon (One of Kurt's idols) did it as well, or straight up lied and said he forgot to record so Kurt had to play it again. Kurt usually dismissed any questions about the lyrics and never spoke truthfully about the meanings, but his notebooks are full of poems and stories that he took parts from and put them into the song, so there was some kind of meaning put behind them. Butch definitely made the record sound next level, he produced some very iconic 90s albums. If you are going to listen to more Nirvana, In Utero is a more raw album produced by Steve Albini and Bleach is also a more raw album that costed the band only 600 dollars to record. DEFINITELY watch some live performances.
@@edafr I don't believe I made any claims saying Butch mixed the album. He produced it, and the producer has massive effect on how good the record sounds. Wallace made a great job at mixing it, but without Butch he wouldn't have had as much to work with.
This is by far my favorite music reaction video. And not because it is one of, if not my favorite band. But most others feel cringe, over the top, with fake and forced emotions. Love how authentic you were in your analysis, great sense of humor, and ability to pick up on small details, including picking up other instruments. So many great bands from the 70s to 90s era. I know when I start a band, I want to be the type that doesn't discriminate against people, play loud, and just have some fun, just like those guys did. Keep on making videos 🙂👍
Growing up with this album I always used to think Lounge act is criminally underrated. My friends thought I was nuts because it’s the song I liked the most.
Woooow I love this album. You *really* need to check out their live performance at the Paramount in 1991, it's got Breed in there. Nirvana was one of the best live acts you could see in the early 90s before Kurt got tired of playing lol. Pure raw energy up on stage, it's so much fun.
*Nice reaction - you're hilarious! A few things-* 1) FYI - You couldn't skip to endless nameless because it was on the same track as Something in the Way but with 10 minutes of silence between the songs. 2) You should check out some other Grunge bands - most of them were from Seattle but they all sounded a little different. For starters I'd recommend Pearl Jam - "Ten", Soundgarden - "Superunknown", and Alice in Chains - "Dirt". 3) Also, Nirvana has several other great releases you should listen to (in the following order) - "In Utero" (polarizing but revered 3rd Studio Album), "Unplugged" (widely considered one of the best live albums of all time), "Bleach" (Their debut album made for $600 but which still rocks,) "Live at Reading" (A transcendent live performance from when Nirvana was the center of the world), "Incesticide" (A quirky but very cool collection of unreleased material), and "Live and Loud in Seattle" (another live album from their final tour a few months before Kurt died. They added a second guitarist and sounded absolutely fierce here). 4) The Smells Like Teen Spirit video was a cultural milestone that changed pop culture overnight. You gotta watch the video to understand the impact this song had: czcams.com/video/hTWKbfoikeg/video.html 5) While Kurt could be dark and moody, he and the other guys in the band also had an amazing sense of humor and messed around a lot. Kurt had so much charisma and gravitas. Check out this video of different clips of them being ridiculous: czcams.com/video/C0twoWzu9n0/video.html
I believe I had seen some of the clips where they would mess with interviewers and really just not care at all. Reminded me a little of the early Beatles
Bro love this video. Nirvana has been my favorite band since I was a kid in the mid 90s learning to be a musician myself. Your reaction and analysis are great.
I’m always loved soft and classic rock. It’s still my favorite overall. But when I discovered Nirvana, it got me into heavier rock and some alternative rock music and helped me look into other kinds of rock like punk and grunge and helped develop my own taste in different kinds of rock. It’s really cool to see someone go through a similar experience. It’s beautiful that rock has so much to offer and so many kinds of rock. Grunge is pretty great!
I've gotten so burned out on reaction vids lately, but YOU my friend made this really fun! I love your genuine takes and surprises on this amazing album. Great job fam! 💯
Great to watch your first experience with this remarkable band. Some insightful comments and funny observations. I recommend their eariler work Bleach but, to be honest, you should listen to all their releases. There's not that much sadly, but it's all killer.
They were just legendary live- you never knew what you were gonna get with them at any show. One of the best performances captured is Live At The Paramount. Check out "Breed" and "School" from that on YT
I watched this video and I remember getting nevermind and being alone in my room listening to the whole thing and this is 100 perfect how I acted and felt that day ..... powerful !
Hi, maybe mentionned before but the intro of "Territorial pissings" is done by Krist Novoselic, the bassist and it's the chorus of a song sang by The Youngbloods named "Get together".
Great video! One thing i dont really see anybody talking about is that Kurt and Nirvana as a whole were extremely feminist, anti-racist and pro LGBT! "If you're a sexist, racist, homophobe or basically an asshole, don't buy this CD. I don't care if you like me, I hate you." -Kurt Cobain
I love that this album still has the same effect on first time listeners and new generations. It's timeless. Our little group has always been, and always will until the end...
Nevermind was released 3 months after i graduated from high school. The first time I heard Teen Spirit I couldn’t understand what I was hearing. It was a completely new sound that absolutely leapt out of my car speakers. What a phenomenal time. What ensued was Rocks last gasp before American idol killed it…
I really dig the way you edit your content, my man. Having the lyrics on the side is a nice touch. This album is one of the best-produced albums to come out of Sound City Studios! There's a fantastic documentary 'Sound City' about Dave Grohl purchasing the 'Neve Electronics 8028 mixing console' used for producing this album and moving and setting it up in his own studio. It's definitely worth a watch!
If you want to watch a live performance I recommend "Nirvana Live at the Paramount." 1. It's shot on film so it pleasing to the eye. 2. It's from right before they went super famous so they are still having fun and Kurt is using fewer drugs. It's a good performance with good audio.
kurt was a melodic genius, he said he could just hear the chords naturally, look up rick beato what makes this song great smells like teen spirit, he breaks the whole song down and shows you the insane internal melodies he heard. he was a composer, but this band had a insane bassist chris novacelic, and dave grohl as the drummer. he is the lead singer of foo fighters, he said kurt singing style was called spitting nails. this band changed rock and roll forever. at the time this was absolutely revolutionary. and spawned other great bands. also check rage against the machine.
Pretty damn cool to see people's feelings listening to something i'm so used to hearing on their first time. Makes me remember how i felt myself Breed is my favourite too, nothing beats that energy. It feels like having a childhood crush sorta
"The Child is Circumcised" had me dead 🤣. Good video tho dude. Listen to all the Studio Records, Amazing stuff. Incesticide and the MTV unplugged album are a must as well trust. Really easy to become a Nirvanahead 😅
It's so cool to see people recting to creation of Nirvana! Hope for Bleach and In Utero! (And maybe Incesticide..), those are also cool albums of them.
I'm jealous. I first heard this album when it came out. I was 11. I played it nonstop. Seeing you enjoy Breed gave me goosebumps. Check out Nirvana Live At Redding on CZcams. It's a whole live concert.
This is a good video, it's always interesting seeing people's first time with such a hugely influential album. Nevermind is really the band at their tamest, other album like Bleach and In Utero are way harsher in their production, so I'm curious about how you'd react to it.
They played live versions of basically every song they ever wrote. They were primarily a live band. If you haven’t heard it yet, you should go back and start with their first album Bleach. Great reaction and comments.
I would love to see your reaction on their next album “In Utero“ there are a lot of songs that are worth listening plus I'd love to know your opinion on them, best of luck man!
'In Bloom' is very Beatles-y, particularly the chorus. If you haven't yet, watch the American music video. It's the band performing on what looks like an early 1960s episode of The Ed Sullivan Show, lol. Really fits the mood.
Loved this video it’s fun hearing your commentary. If you liked this album I’d recommend checking out Alice In Chains album “Dirt”, Soundgarden’s “Badmotorfinger”, and Pearl Jam’s “Ten”. Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and AIC are considered the big four of grunge and while they don’t share the same sound, they’re all super enjoyable and fun. I’d also recommend checking out “Core” by Stone Tenple Pilots. Stone Temple isn’t from Seattle which is where the big four are from, but they can be pretty grungy. If you wanna listen to more Nirvana, I’d say to listen to either Bleach or In Utero. Love the video I hope to see more
If you wanna dive into more rock from this era, Siamese Dream by Smashing Pumpkins is a great place to continue. Both records were produced by Butch Vig.
Kurts singing style was very aggressive and cool as hell but it was SUUUPER hard on his throat. Which is why you mentioned his voice sounding like it was giving up during a few of these songs.
"NIRVANA! LIVE! TONIGHT! SOLD OUT!!!" On VHS was in my Christmas stocking as a kid. I watched it before my parents even got out of bed. Now you can see anything anytime and it's amazing. Dead men don't pull triggers tamerail, look into it. #Justiceforkurt
That synth sound in Endless Nameless is actually the guitar... To this day, I still don't know how Kurt got his guitar to make that sound, but he even got his guitars to make that sound in live shows.
Nirvana was the start of grunge as a mass movement, and was carrying on a lot of what had been building in the U.S. punk and underground scenes over the 80’s; while a lot of the other grunge bands leaned heavier on metal or even classic rock sounds.
you should try to listen to in utero and bleach(both by nirvana too), in utero shows nirvana at it's rawest form ever before kurts death and bleach shows nirvana at it's first steps(by the way, nice video man, keep it up😸)
Glad you love the album man!! Nevermind is their most popular album and a great one, but you should check out Bleach and In Utero. Big evolution in their sound. Bleach was released before Nevermind and In Utero after. Live performances you should check out: “Live at the Paramount” (best version of Breed) “Live and Loud” “MTV Unplugged in New York”
Jealous that you have so many great rock bands to experience for the first time. Nirvana is iconic for sure, and around that same time we had both the birth of grunge with incredible bands like Soundgarden (you should listen to "Superunknown" which was their first mainstream success, earlier stuff is a different sound and rough) and Pearl Jam (debut album "Ten" is iconic and incredible) coming up. But at the same time, incredible innovation in other sounds was happening like Rage Against the Machine (a true experience like none other, caution: you may overthrow your government and/or capitalism while listening. start at their self-titled debut!) and Incubus (reeeeally experimental sounds with some of the best lyricism in all of music, check out S.C.I.E.N.C.E. for your first experience with them, preferably right after smoking a little weed) which is really crazy. It was a musical renaissance that defined an entire generation and it's awesome that you get to go through it with fresh ears and experience it. Keep up the fun content!
Kurt was the absolute king of trolling!!!!! Check out Nirvana’s smells like teen spirit top of the pops video. They had to have back tracks playing during a live performance but only have a live mic. See how he responded to that it’s an all time classic!!!
It does make a little sense given that the Beatles would create entire songs based on some poster or painting they’ve seen. Kurt wanting to live under a bridge as someone with aids is just a modern version of that
The drummer is Dave Grohl. He started Foo Fighters after Nirvana and is the singer/guitarist.
Yeah I heard of them and they’re also on my list. Cool to see that the members found their own way after Kurt passed. Hate to see talent go to waste like Queen did after Freddie’s death
Just one correction, Dave is one of two guitarists in foo fighters if I recall, and he plays rhythm for the most part

At that time Kurt didn't know how to sing very well yet, mixing the album helped him a lot to make the songs sound better.
@@Edblue666I think the shouting style adds to the angst of the songs which makes them sound better
"NIRVANA! LIVE!
The beatles were high out of their minds making most of their albums as were many other old classic rock musicians. It started in the 60s
Muddy Banks is a great live compilation
great personality
i love reactions
Dude you rock
Nirvana was an amazing live band. Captivating. FYI,
you should try to listen to in utero and bleach(both by nirvana too), in utero shows nirvana at it's rawest form ever before kurts death and bleach shows nirvana at it's first steps(by the way, nice video man, keep it up😸)
18:07 I recommend live at the paramount and live in paradiso
Live at the Paramount captures them at the perfect time before it was out of control.
@@anthonyv6962 they were crazy before they even got big
Nirvana Live at the Paramount 1991 is the best Grunge concert ever
Glad you love the album man!!
Nevermind is their most popular album and a great one, but you should check out Bleach and In Utero. Big evolution in their sound. Bleach was released before Nevermind and In Utero after.
Live performances you should check out:
“Live at the Paramount” (best version of Breed)
“Live and Loud”
“MTV Unplugged in New York”
Actually a really cool reaction
Great video man. Where you from? Germany?😊
You should definitely do a live at the reading or live at the paramount reaction
Listen to their “Live and Loud” performance
You gotta listen to In Utero now!
Kurt wanting to live under a bridge as someone with aids is just a modern version of that
love the video. in utero next? :]
Kurt did cover a Beatles song, "And I Love Her"
