Just wait until OK Computer, THAT album has some serious Bowie influence.
I can't speak to the Bowie influence because I'm not that familiar with him but it is a killer album.
it has for sure.
When I read this "Lucky" came to mind

Thom Yorke - main vocals/ guitar/ piano
Jonny Greenwood - guitar but also literally any instrument besides vocals
Ed O'Brien - guitar/ supporting vocals
Colin Greenwood - bass
Phil Selway - drums
Jonny plays pretty much any instrument you can imagine.
@@Literallyjustmint I just assigned them guitars, because they're pretty flexible when playing them. Ed could also be some special effects guy with his guitar while Jonny could be a mad scientist.
@@ubolyrAnd even Thom plays drums on Bangers + Mash
Greenwood is a prominent player of the *ondes Martenot* , an early (now rare) electronic instrument played by moving a ring along a wire, creating sounds similar to a theremin. It's in far more Radiohead songs than I thought!

Please react to Jeff Buckley's 'Grace' album. Jeff Buckley inspired Thom Yorke to sing falsetto in 'Fake Plastic Trees'. Apparently Radiohead was struggling to record the song, so they decided to take a break from recording and go see Jeff Buckley who was playing in London. After the concert, Radiohead returned to the studio to continue their recording. Thom Yorke decided to take a different approach and sing 'Fake Plastic Trees' in falsetto. The rest is history. Anyway, great reaction. Really enjoying watching you go down the Radiohead rabbit hole.
It didn’t just inspire that song - it literally changed the way Thom sung!
‘The Bends’ album was the starting point for Thom’s confidence and learning of how to truely master his falsetto abilities.
If he liked this album, then Grace will blow his mind! Also, would be entertaining to see him devolve into a puddle of tears.
unpopular opinion, Grace is better than any album Radiohead has put out. If Jeff Buckley had lived and produced more albums, I wouldn't hesitate to call him the best vocalist/singer of all time.

Fake Plastic Trees will get you every time. There is no shame. It's beautiful.
Yeah it hits you right in the feels pretty hard.
probably the most 90s song. the songs vibe is stuck in 90s so much. every other band sounds pretty modern like pearl jam, nirvana... but FPT sounds so 90s...

Brutal!
It's like kids today haven't experienced depression combined with heroin addiction in the 1990s or 2000s, when there weren't needle exchanges.
Fun fact, Thom Yorke recorded his singing for Planet Telex while lying on the floor drunk. As for the guitarists, you have Jonny Greenwood, Mr Yorke himself (the singer), Ed O’Brien supporting Thom Yorke, and Colin Greenwood on bass.
Forgetting the drummer Phill?
@@duvan-solis I responded to him asking who are the guitarists early on in the video. I would never forget about Phil!

The 90's were full of emotionnal songs like this, i really miss that.
If that's so, I hope it's OK that I bring to your attention the fact that I feel the exact same way AND have been active as a singer-songwriter here on CZcams for more than 10 years now. Not to pretend I'm in the same league as Radiohead (that would be literally insane!), but they definitely belong to the (many) musicians I admire, which might reflcet in my own songs in one way or another and I think it could definitely be a welcome alternative to what's going on in mainstream pop right now...
Ending Fake Plastic Trees with “you shouldn’t be allowed to do this” is just so beautiful.
O boy are you in for a treat.
The rabbit hole is deep with this amazing band.
You really should listen the albums in order.
And go on their journey.
How they evolved.
And when you’re done with the whole discography.
Watch the basement sessions.
And see it played live in the basement. You will be amazed
So glad you're here, bud. This album changed my whole world. Crank it all the way up.
I like your comparisons with Bowie, and Bowie was a huge fan of Radiohead. There’s a clip online of Bowie talking about seeing them live where he basically says they are the best band around, check it out!
Don't let a bunch of idiots tell you Pablo Honey isn't a good album. Sure it's not their best, but it's their first, and if you like it, that's all that matters.
Truth! Everyone’s gotta start somewhere and PH is a great start
When compared to the rest of their albums it's their worst album, but it's still a really good record. I think that's agreeable.
@@ubolyr I'd take Pablo Honey over King of Limbs any day. I feel like people who crap on Pablo Honey probably didn't start listening to RH until OKC or later, and had to go back to listen to PH, but people who've been fans from the beginning can appreciate it for what it is.
@@ubolyr I agree!
@@beatlebum7057 I know what you're saying, Pablo Honey is easily on par with Green Day and Nirvana (which is exactly what their record label were looking for), so is in no way a terrible album (it was my only Radiohead album at first, and I loved it, still do). I would also have placed The King Of Limbs under Pablo Honey if it wasn't for Codex which was just mesmerising, with Morning Mr Magpie's outro and Separator, then the live version of the album from the Basement really showcases the King of Limbs as maybe like the scene from Back To The Future, "Guess you aren't ready for that, but your kids are gonna love it".
You're two albums in and Radiohead is just warming up. Enjoy the journey.
My favorite Radiohead album. OK Computer has some awesome tracks also. Thom Yorke's vocals are cosmically haunting. Johnny Greenwood and Ed O'Brien are personal heroes on the guitar. They experiment and change so dynamically from album to album
all ok computer are awesome not some
Fantastic reaction! The Bends remains the PEAK of Radiohead for me, and is still one of my top 3 favorite albums of all time. I hope one day you react to some of Blur's music! They were another fantastic British group from the 90s that created some total masterpieces, but were constantly underrated by the masses overseas.
samee, The Bends is tied with Ok Computer for me, but both near perfect albums :)
True. Blur is very underrated outside of England/UK in general.
Though I feel like Blur, while having some amazing work, never really perfected their craft. Their older albums are very hit or miss in terms of quality tracks. The misses are not bad, but could've used some more time in the oven.
Only album from them that I feel they really nailed through and through, is Magic Whip. Feels very whole in a sense. Though maybe not the sound many Blur fans was/are looking for.
Blur can’t touch Radiohead. Great band though.
It's wonderful to watch you discover these albums. I do believe the best is yet to come. Please keep going in chronological order.

Back in the 90's I would listen to Radiohead and Blind Melon every day, such beautiful music and emotionally driven.
Just remember, OK Computer is the apex of Radiohead Mountain. No matter what they say.
As a big Radiohead fan, I loved this reaction, I'm really keen to see you react to more of their albums, this is just the start of an incredible journey!!
Black Star rips my still beating heart out of my chest, and street spirit shows it to me crushed in its grip
Oh man i still remember the first time i heard "If i could be who you wanted... all the time"
Awesome reaction dude. Amazing to see how it affected you so much. Like I affected your mum. I love their later stuff even more and have criminally neglected this over the years after having it on near repeat as a youngster. Can’t wait for you to hear the rest! Cheers :)
They're an amazing studio band, but even more impressive is their live shows maintain all the fidelity and clarity of the albums; It helps having three guitars and a mastermind mad scientist in Johnny Greenwood.
1:10 Those are the Single covers. It's pretty common for some sites to have the single cover instead of the album cover. Sometimes it's pretty annoying when searching metadata for songs.
If somebody it's unfamiliar with what a "single" is. Well, those songs were promoted to be on the radio usually and were sold as an alternative to buying the whole album and "saving" money if you just wanted that song. Also, a lot of band used it to release alternate versions of songs, demo versions or songs that didn't get into the album (B-sides)
Just the fact that Radiohead could have been a legendary band if they just shat out 5 more of these albums, yet they challenged themelves in new ways within and outside of rock and produced at least several albums that are as good or maybe better than this...wow.
It just led to them being damn near god status
When I was 13 I was working for my father somewhere in north Iceland's country side. I was there for 2 months and I brought with me 2 CDs , one was an album by Busts Rhymes and The Bends, the bends was amazing to listen to I remember!
Got to listem to their early B Side releases. Insanely great.
OK Computer is guna blow your mind. Can't wait.
In Rainbows will have you in tears from start to finish also.
I like your personality man, never change
As a fan of 80s and 90s guitar bands, this album is the pinnacle and as such, is also still my favourite Radiohead album. I suppose the only direction they had to take after this was to change their sound and progress in a different direction, since they had already conquered this genre.
Dude, The bends is such a banger I love watching these types of videos and seeing people discover my favourite albums for the first time and I saw your video was very recent, excited for your journey! OK computer and In Rainbows and A moon shaped pool (AMSP) are my favourite and all auditory masterpieces, especially OK Computer and In Rainbows. I hope you enjoy the upcoming albums especially the next which is what got me into this amazing band.

What is it? Decompression sickness, also called generalized barotrauma or the bends, refers to injuries caused by a rapid decrease in the pressure that surrounds you, of either air or water. It occurs most commonly in scuba or deep-sea divers, although it also can occur during high-altitude or unpressurized air travel.
You need more views! I love what you're doing here. Great insight. Never even thought they sounded like Bowie at all. But you're right. Please keep listening to the bassist Colin and the ~nasty~ electric guitar is always Jonny, his brother. Thom's voice will sometimes distract you. But you're a good listener...
(Let Down is going to destroy you)
The bends is referring to the rapid ascent they had with creep… eventually feeling like a sickness.
My iron lung same - keeps you alive but trapped
Is "Street Spirit" is the only rock & roll song that is lyrically centered on the heat death of the universe? Maybe!
Yes, Thom Yorke loves David Bowie's music 😎
Really looking forward to catching up on this journey
It just gets better from here man
The Bends is my favorite album, it's sound is Unique and something about it speaks to me.
You gotta listen to Grace by Jeff Buckley
Omg love this album. Fake plastic trees always break me. Great reaction.
Also I would love to watch you reacting to Muse. Muse is often compared with Radiohead but both bands are amazing and I love them.
The singer (Thom Yorke) is very famous for his incredible falsetto voice.
I’m pretty sure Thom was partly inspired to become a musician after seeing David Bowie’s Ashes to Ashes music video, said something like “ I wanna earn a living doing THAT”
Hi. New sub here, joining you for your RH journey and boy, it's going to be so freakin' awesome.
Enjoy your reaction! Radiohead is at its heart a 3 guitar attack band, Thom the lead singer plays excellent rhythm, Jonny is the lead, and Ed does a lot of everything but specializes in these atmospheric backgrounds - any time you think it is a synth (at least minus Kid A and Amnesiac) it is probably a guitar with effects. I love 3 guitar bands, something very liberating about having that extra space to create both monster hammering walls of sound or dreamy layered spacey songs. Colin on bass and Phil on drums are masters holding down the structure beneath it all and shine if you take the time to listen. I loved a couple songs off this, and it was getting a lot of buzz, but it is 'OK Computer' that caused me to fall out of my chair and proclaim that I'd just heard the first perfect album in my life and the best band on earth. 25 years later I still feel the same. I am jealous you get to hear it for the first time. Then they make a turn so sharp with 'Kid A' it will rattle your brain, but that is the defining moment when they transcended to great rock band to once in a generation legends.
i like you, seem very likeable. you will be a great old eccentric man one day. 😁. great reaction man.their albums get better and better, which is a very rare thing. also the song "nice dream", i would play on repeat, for years, still do.
.Sincere thanks for an amazingly articulate Radiohead reactions that I have ever seen. It's rare to see someone who comprehends the depth and nuance of cerebral rock artists. When it does happen, it is breathtaking, and much appreciated. Your reaction was insightful, sincere, and heartfelt. I enjoyed it from beginning to end, in its entirety. I love The Bends musically, but the cover art featuring a latex male manequin really creeps me out a lot. I couldn't buy the cd when it came out, because of the creepy cover art.
Oh gosh I think I spent my entire summer of ‘98 listening to The Bends on a loop. Good times 🥹
your trip will be exciting. enjoy the ride
You’re gonna love ok computer
Bowie and Morrisey for sure - especially this era (And OK computer). But later so many other influences including IDM (Aphex Twin), Krautrock (Can), and everything in between.
Crazy great song
Definitely listen to Mudhoney's Superfuzz Bigmuff (1988). It sounds grungy like Bleach and was produced by the same guy (Jack Endino). Both were released on Sub Pop.
Im here on this Radiohead journey with you.
I’m hoping for an entire discography reaction I like seeing people hear Radiohead for the first time
So excited for you to experience In Rainbows!

Cardiacs also influenced Radiohead, you'll see their influences in their later albums with the tempo & timing changes and the complex compositions. I'm looking forward to listening to these too.
Street Spirit reminds you of TUBULAR BELLS. Its the song from the movie The Exorcist.
The bends: Decompression sickness, also called generalized barotrauma or the bends, refers to injuries caused by a rapid decrease in the pressure that surrounds you, of either air or water.
The format:
• two louder, upbeat, usually linked
• one slower, reflective, acoustic with sustained chords
is _the definitive opening combination_ and Radiohead nail it on every album.

you should definitely listen to soundgarden and alice in chains. no where near related to radio head but they have some amazing albums
If you can hold it together through Fake Plastic Trees, do you even have a soul?
The first four songs of this album is just an absolutely godly track run.
Yes. Among other things, this is one of the best guitar albums ever made.
As much as I love this album, I feel OK Computer was their masterpiece, as well as best album of the 90's and even of all-time. But the Bends was magical, no doubt. If nothing else, please watch the video for Street Spirit- it's amazing.
It's one of the best albums ever made imo. Definitely in my personal top 10. It's such a level of mastery and seriousness above 90% of all other popular music production. Emo without being Emo, Prog without being Prog Rock, Metal without being Metal, popular without being Pop... Just a landmark.
In terms of influences, two that I detect are Jeff Buckley and Killing Joke. The former in terms of aching vulnerable and tender vocals, the latter in terms of primal, raging noise.
You must listen to Killing Joke's first album as part of your musical education. They created about three genres that still exist, in 1980, including Industrial. "War Dance" was so groundbreaking and ahead of its time.
It was actually Nigel Godrich who produced this album, who ever since, had worked with Radiohead on all of albums. I really don't know why John Leckie is labeled as the producer for this album on Genius. Turns out, Genius ain't so genius.
Nvm, Nigel was on Engineering for this album, he started production from Ok Computer.
Nigel engineered - only has a production credit on Black Star. John Leckie was producer for the rest of the album.
As far as I know on RYM Radiohead do have three albums in the top 10 - but this isn’t one of them! Enjoy your journey, you’re in for a treat.
My understanding is that Planet Telex was originally named Planet Xerox, but they didn't want to risk legal trouble.
You should definitely try listening to Deftones - White Pony. Super super sick album and the vocals are great
