  • This is a backlog video, it was filmed quite some time ago, so some things may not look as complete as they are in real-time.
    Hi, everyone! Today, we are overhauling our old hatch cover. We start taking it apart in preparation for making it like new again. We also rehab our used hydraulic tank, which is going to become our new steering fluid tank. We start by working on the old ports, grinding them down, and filling them with plugs that will be welded in.

    Great thinking on flipping the tank over so you don't have to worry about leaks. Plus you have a large fill opening and venting. Great work 😊. Can't wait to see the engine room video with everything cleaned out and rearranged.

    A single sight glass is a well planned strategy move. With the tank now being a single use reservoir you can expect years of trouble free performance. Love the way you plan for all the it's and future wants. Kudos

      Thank you! It is nice to know there is a dedicated hydro tank for steering and another for all deck equipment. I feel like it was a ticking time bomb in it's former configuration.

    @ 22:00 either you're making popcorn in the background or it's raining some pretty big raindrops. 😅 Even though it takes a little more work I think removing the unused ports and sealing them up would be the most effective way of getting rid of them. Len, please be sure to flush the tank with hot soapy water after you flush the chips out if you using a solvent, I'd hate hear that the tank exploded when you were welding it.

    Is that a Roll pin?

  • @chriskulpa4056
    @chriskulpa4056 Před 19 dny

    Guessing they use a pin for easy/speed of assembly because they just put it in the jig and press the pin in, No monkeyintg around with a torque wrench to tighten to spec. Yeah wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald as I live in Michigan. They surmise that filed hatches made it take on water and break up under the increased load of water.

    that's a small tank for all the hydrolysis why dont you jus a bigger tank for cooling

    • @EISAlaska
      @EISAlaska  Před 19 dny

      There was only the small tank when we bought her. Now there is a dedicated tank for the deck, about 50 gallons.
