These two have a long history. They were roommates in Nashville during Johnny's drugging days. They have some hilarious stories about locking each other out, hiding drugs from each other, and Johnny trying to make biscuits from scratch and getting his black shirt covered in flour. Later in their career, Waylon needed a guitarist to finish a tour in Canada and Johnny volunteered. Waylon said "I can't have Johnny Cash backing me up on guitar!" Johnny replied "Would you do it for me?" Waylon said "You know I would." Then Johnny said "Well I'm doing it for you!" - Much later down the road when Johnny was sick in the hospital, Waylon visited him and said "You look like shit." Johnny said "You do too. In fact you better let them check you out while you're here." - Waylon was admitted to the hospital that night.- All true stories. The only kind that can happen between wonderful life long friends.
Thanks for sharing these stories, they are great!
Waylon has a 3 hour long autobiography available here on CZcams and it is fascinating.
I think it was the reverse, Waylon filled in for the guitarist for Johnny Cash.
Jesse and Frank James were famous and notorious outlaws. After the Civil War, they formed a gang and robbed lots of Trains and Banks. Chain Gangs were fairly common in the South. Prisoners were chained together and forced to do manual labor. Digging ditches, road repair, etc. A good movie about chain gangs is "Cool Hand Luke."
Waylon was one badass. And, he could play that tele.
When you said it feel so effortless like they just wrote it in 5 min in the dressing room I yelled “yes! That’s what real country music should feel like!”
Yes!!!! More Waylon Jennings please. "Mamma Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys", "Luckenbach, TX", "It's Not Supposed to Be That Way" and "Dreaming My Dreams With You" are some great one's of his.
Agree!!! Mama's don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys is 1 of my favorites
Yes YES. 'MOMMAS DoN'T Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be 🤠 Cowboys' 😁 ... 🎵🎶🔉🔊🎶🎵
Another great not mentioned is Waylon Jennings - I've Always Been Crazy ! Anything by Johnny Cash is good !
Jesse James was a western outlaw. He and his gang was the first to rob banks in broad daylight.
RIP Johnny and Waylon, thanks for the memories and great music. Jim
Interesting fact about Waylon... He was ALMOST on the plane that went down with Buddy Holly, Ritchie Vallens, Big Bopper, and the Pilot Roger Peterson... Known famously as the "Day the Music Died"... Ironically, I made a comment about this crash the other day in your George Jones, "White Lightnin" reaction..
Waylon always carried guilt for the rest of his life... He was a member of Buddy's band, and he gave up his seat to the sick Big Bopper, so he would not have to ride the bus, with no heat, through extreme winter conditions...
The last conversation between Buddy and Waylon had Buddy telling Waylon he hoped his bus broke down... Waylon snapped back that he hoped his plane crashed... They got the bad news the next morning... Waylon never got over it...
Waylon said that he couldn't talk about it for a long time. He thought that he caused the plane to crash with that joke with Buddy and he didn't want anyone to know that he said those words.
Love listening to Waylon pick the guitar! He had such a distinctive style.
Can't go wrong with Waylon Jennings
I was lucky enough to see Waylon live in concert a few times as well as Johnny Cash here in Austin. Also saw the Highwaymen in 1990 for Willie’s picnic and David Allen Coe was there. Good times!
If you watch the 70s and 80s tv show the Dukes of Hazard Waylon wrote and sang the theme song. He is also narrated the show. Also Jesse James was a famous outlaw.
Wow that is so cool! I did not know that!
@@brittreacts Jesse Woodson James (September 5, 1847 - April 3, 1882) was an American outlaw, bank and train robber
The beginning of dukes is the same guitar he's playing now
Side note: Cash & Jennings rented an apartment together between marriages. They were literally like brothers. Johnny Cash’s son said when Waylon died he seen something die inside his dad as well
My Pop-Pop raised me on old country.. and I obviosly love it.. but as much as I love Johnny, George, Kris, .. so many others... Waylon is my fav. don't know why but love me some Waylon... and Jesse James is an outlaw from the 1800's
Waylon is my favorite also.
-The Voice
-He sang what he lived
-Sense of humor
-Legit BADASS 🧨💥
-That Telecaster sound
-The Waylon backbeat

Jesse james was the ultimate outlaw... Jesse Woodson James (September 5, 1847 - April 3, 1882) was an American outlaw, bank and train robber, guerrilla and leader of the James-Younger Gang.
Two absolute legends! This is how music should be
Young lady , you just experienced two of the finest in REAL country music, you have a new fan !!!
I got to meet Waylon Jennings when I worked at Columbia Studios. he played Ironhead Haynes in an episode of Married With Children. He looked intimidating from a distance, but he couldn't of been any nicer when meeting him.
Waylon was a super nice guy from what I’ve read and heard repeatedly. But he was a Gemini (like myself) and he had another side to him if people wanted to play stupid games.
He even wrote
“The Gemini Song”
“Born under the sign of the Gemini Twins...
There’s 2 sides to me & we ain’t even friends”
😂🤣😂🤣
joek468
Awesome that you got to meet him!!
You need to check out the Highwaymen. It consists of Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson, and Willie Nelson.
Great song buy waylon and Johnny cash love it all these great words in all these great country songs good video upload to ok
These are two of the greatest country singers of all time.
Jessie James was an outlaw following the civil war, until his death in the 1880s. He became a sort of hero in the south, for robbing banks and trains, ran by northern carpetbaggers that where basically stealing from poor people. At least that's the short version. On another note, Johnny Cash and Kris Kristofferson made a movie called " The last days of Frank and Jessie James" Kris played Jessie and Johnny played his older brother Frank. It looks like you liked Waylons guitar playing too. In my opinion he is one of the best.
luv Johnny & Waylon. but I'm here cuz brit is gorgeous!!!!!!
Another classic song from Waylon Jennings featuring Hank Williams Jr " The Conversation" it's about Hank Jr dad Country Music legend Hank Williams Sr.
Finally someone did this song ,one of my favorite old country songs
WAYLON!!!
Thanks for reacting to these two
Country Music legends👍
Love to see ya' do more
Waylon Jennings songs.
Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard were all friends and would appear with each other and collaborate throughout their careers. BTW Jesse James was an outlaw in the Wild West after the Civil War. He was a bank and train robber that was the leader of the James-Younger gang. His brother Frank was also part of the gang. There are many movies about him, or with him featured in some part. I love history!
Jessie was one of the most famous bank robbers ever
Waylon is my favorite Country singer.
Two absolute LEGENDS of Country music
Waylon Jennings. He and Willie are legends of country music. More of each please.
Thanks for sharing. Love them both, but Waylon is my favorite male Country Artist ever! Check out, I’ve Always Been Crazy and Rose Of Paradise by Waylon.
Got to love the old stuff. They never bragged about themselves. They were always talking about their own love and faults. Way better than the new stuff. Please listen to Waylon, I've Always been Crazy...a perfect example of a well written song
Waylon was in Buddy Holly's last band and gave up his seat on the plane that crashed to either Richie Valens or Big Bopper.
All time greats.. Johnny and Waylon.. the best
I loved this. You should react to more of Waylon's live stuff. He's the GOAT.
2 of the greats of all time love the videos .
The reason it feels so e is because for them it was. Both crazy through the years.Through drugs,through booze,partying all the way and still made great muasic. I love them both. :}
Great song girl two Legends Johnny and Waylon couldn't get any better
2 legends both are fantastic
More of both of them ❤️ Johnny Cash is my all time favorite!!
Storms Never Last Waylon and his wife Jessie a must reaction. Jessie James was a notorious outlaw in the late 1800s.
The famous classic actor Robert Mitchum ran away at 16. He ended up on a chain gang in Georgia. He 'escaped ' and never ran away from home again.
You mentioned how well they play together. They were close friends. They shared an apartment in Nashville when they first moved there.
Please please more Waylon!!! ✌️❤️🎸
Fun fact: Johnny Cash acted in a movie about Jesse and Frank James in 1986 called "The Last Days of Frank and Jesse James".
It also starred other country artists like Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, David Allan Coe, June Carter Cash (Johnny's wife), and probably others..
There was also a different, and more popular movie about Jesse and Frank James in 1994 called "Jesse and Frank". It starred Rob Lowe, Bill Paxton, and country artist Randy Travis.
Waylon Jennings is the lone survivor of "The Day that the Music Died",
He gave up his seat on the plane to the Big Bopper. He lived with guilt for many years over it.
Both men had a musical wife, performing on stage & in the studio together. Jesse Coulter & June Carter Cash.
In fact, Johnny married into Country Music Royalty! The Carter Family had several popular songs in the 1930's and 40's.
June & Johnny also have a daughter, Rosanne, who has had hit songs of her own.
Johnny's younger brother Tommy also had a few songs getting airtime.😮
Just at work singing makes the day go by
Love me some Waylon!!! ❤
Johnny had a TV show for two seasons in1969-1971, and always had great guest. Many of them were other country stars since it was filmed at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, where the Grand Old Opry was until it moved to a new venue in 1974. A few months ago a cable channel played his shows and it was great to see them again.
Waylon has a live version of Waymors Blues with his wife…you speak of effort. It’s almost like he talks when he’s singing. RIP Waylon and JC
Waylon is Struggle Jennings' step grandpa, but basically his real grandpa, since Waylon was married to his grandma (Jessi Colter) his whole life.
You heard him singing the chorus of "Outlaw Shxt" in Struggle Jennings' remix of Waylon's song called "Outlaw Shxt". And you saw Waylon's son Shooter Jennings singing the chorus in Struggle Jennings' song called "Love Won".
Two of the best..
I approve this message
You could listen to them in The Highwaymen (jamming group with Willie and Kris...Yabba Dabba Doo, Elvis is Gone and So Are You.
Waylon and Willie Nelson, Good Hearted Woman (Live at Western Place), will blow you away and maybe even cause you to get up and do a little two-step, even if you don’t know how to do it.
Legendary.
The GREAT ONES.
I am impressed !!! Such a pretty girl with a great perspective on a classic country song. Always loved Waylon and his guitar and Johnny Cash is a legend!! By the way Jesse James was a famous outlaw , or infamous depending on your perspective.
More Waylon the better
Johnny Cash sang "Bitter White Girl "and it's so on target.
So glad you enjoyed this, Johnny and Waylon were Super Talents in my opinion; singing, song writing and playing just came naturally to them, I have often wondered how their careers would have changed if they didn't struggle with drugs. Song writing came easy to those two, but this is one they did not write, it was written by Hal Bynum & David Kirby.
The two GOATS
I love seeing these react videos!
Waylon was a very accomplished guitarist. check out some of his catalog... I've Always Been Crazy.. Long Time Ago... Outlaw S#!t... America
As natural to them as breathing.
Such a cool song. Waymore Blues is a favorite Waylon song of mine. Worth a listen imo.
Britt, with Waylon and Johnny both having left this earth with much music and musical history, it would serve you and your growing audience to see it was sheer fate and the common flu and cold that Waylon Jennings did not die a much younger man. I implore you to Google "The Day the Music Died" and read how Waylon swapped a seat on a plane in the winter of 1959 with J.P "Big Bopper" Richardson for a seat on a cold and crowded tour bus in 18° weather that night. Richardson, along with young fellow musical stars Richie Valens and Buddy Holly and their pilot went down in an Iowa corn field, killing them all. Don McLean's anthem "American Pie," written in 1971 is a touching tribute to the three musicians and the impact it had on American music, especially the rockabilly, Chicano and Americana genres. I then ask you to react to McLean's "American Pie" AFTER reacting to "Chantilly Lace" by Richardson, "That'll Be The Day" by Buddy Holly, and "Come On, Let's Go" by Richie Valens. Thank you and enjoy your channel.
❤ I love it I love it everyday I do
cool thx love this
Outlaw country at it's best
As a kid I watched the chain gang in the south on the roads, never ever want to be in the chain gang. The really made an impression on me and as a result , I never committed a crime. That was 60 years ago.
YOU ARE SO BEAUTIFUL!! I LOVE YOUR REACTIONS
Waylon Jennings is my favorite outlaw country artist ever. There are very few songs from him that I don’t care for, but I’ll still listen to them. One of my favorites is “Lucille “. I think you would like it.
There is 2 of the biggest country artist ever!!
If you ever watched Dukes of Hazard, Waylon was the one that sang the opening song!
I miss them. Jonny gets more attention but Waylon was a bada$$.
Two big-time talents, who probably jammed together a thousand times (high or sober). Their stuff feels really authentic, too.
Jesse James was an outlaw in the old days. One of the fastest gun drawers.😅
A fun reaction. These were two greats who were amazing when they performed together.
shame we will never see the likes of these two ever agine
They were both in in jail at one time . A chain gang is working prison guys chained together while they are out of prison.😮
Waylon was always haunted about the Buddy Holly plane crash, where he had given up his seat for The Big Bopper. Buddy joked with when he got on the plan and told Waylon that he hoped his bus broke down. Waylon joked back, "Well, I hop your plane crashes." Five minutes later, it did. He said that he was on a tour bus once and a young man sat down beside him. When he looked, he thought he was seeing a ghost. It was The Big Bopper's son. He asked Waylon to tell him about his father. Waylon said they talked for hours and that it was cathartic to be able to talk about it.
2:03 Outstanding observation here. Not many people are so quick to recognize the TOP LEVEL, World Class musicianship each of these legends possess. And on top of that these two were so damn good together.
Modern country (most modern music regardless of genre) is geared directly towards “What will haul in the most money”. The writers goal is to reach the largest possible mass of people and record sales are THE only real goal. True artistry doesn’t just “take a back seat” NO NO it was booted completely out of the ride thousands of miles ago. Heart and Soul with modern “Artists” ?? They’re absolutely not interested in such things. Only big bags of 💰CASH 💰💰💰💰💰💰💰 and they get away with this because there’s more than enough people out there who are willing to buy the mass produced, generic cookie cutter garbage because the majority of the general public lack the musical iQ to be able to weed out the generic junk (lyrics like ... one - two.... I LOVE You) from the legit “high quality craftsmanship”.
What Cash and Waylon did back in the day was they’d write songs that came from the heart. Maybe not always THEIR OWN heart (they both did a lot of covers), but good, quality, sincere music that was truly from the heart. Then they’d hit the studio, get it onto vinyl and hope that the fans would like it. Cash and Waylon rarely “hit a foul ball”. The fans of yesteryear recognized and appreciated real, sincere music.
Waylon fought for and won the fight for artistic freedom back during a time when Nashville (namely Chet Atkins) wanted to control every teeny tiny aspect of an artists music. From the lyrics to the album covers, the clothes, the backing musicians on and on and in the end the artists net pay was just a tiny fraction of what it could’ve been. Or should’ve been.
Waylon broke out on his own along with Willie Nelson, Tompaul Glaser, Waylons wife Jesse Colter. Together these 4 released the double album “Wanted the Outlaws” in 1976. Not only were these 4 “Outlaws” able to find success after breaking away from the Nashville “Pimping operation”, but
“Wanted: The Outlaws” quickly became THE biggest selling country album OF ALL TIME. Now that’s what I call BADASS.
You need ta do more Waylon Jennings. We are mighty proud of him here in west Texas. By the way you are a cute little thing. I'd love to have a chicken fried steak with you.
Outlaw Country Baby!!! Yes!!!! Waylon is Struggle Jennings Grandpa!!!
You should listen to Waylon’s “Don’t y’all think this outlaw bit done got out of hand” it’s a true story that actually happened to him.
I've always loved this song.
I’d like some fried chicken ‘bout now too. You know Johnny and Waylon used to share an apartment in Nashville. Waylon said Johnny cooked good breakfast.
"Don't Let the Sun Set on You in Tulsa." One of Waylon's early hits that I always loved. Check it out.
Listening to it now, great song, but Waylon always did great songs.
Love it 😊
Don't know Jesse James !! What do they teach kids in schools? Jesse was an outlaw after the civil war that robbed banks with his brother Frank and The Younger brothers. They were from Missouri. As for Johnny and Waylon you can never play enough. Waylon was part of the outlaw country movement of the 70's and 80's along with singers like Willie Nelson and Hank Williams Jr. Johnny was a star long before that fits with the outlaw group and may be the original. Johnny is known for his songs about jail and prison and actually did performances for prisoners.
Mama's in the kitchen, cookin' fried chicken, wishin' that I hadn't done wrong.
I mean how great is this song? Waylon was the coolest man in country music. And of course there's only one Johnny Cash.
First ..Johnny Cash aka 'Man in Black' {John wore a lot of dark and black clothes} and Waylon Jennings {considered one of the first singers of outlaw country music} two of the best country had to offer. Checkout some songs by Waylon .. #Lukanbach, Texas .. #Theme to "Dukes of Hazzard" .. #Mental Revenge .. #Are Ya Sure Hank Done it This Way .. #Momma's Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys .. and so many more.
Brothers Frank and Jesse James, both surviving the civil war {they fought for the confederacy; south} became outlaws/bank & train robbers afterwards. They teamed up with another family of outlaws, the Youngers. Outlaws we're hunted down by Pinkerton men during the time. Pinkerton was their version of the FBI. Brothers Bob and Charlie Ford wanted to join up with Jesse but we're turned away. It seems that Bob Ford was more in it for the notoriety than the money. So he and Charlie went to the Pinkerton and made a deal for the $5000 reward to bring Jesse in dead or alive. As the story goes .. the Fords pay Jesse and his wife a visit one day at their home. Probably sat down and had a meal with Jesse and disgust joining up again because they knew James needed some new blood after Cole Younger and his brothers we're injured while trying to rob a bank. When they we're through discussing business, Jesse stood up from the table and took his gun belt off {which some historians say he never did} and hung them up. He walks over to a picture hanging on a wall and begins to straighten it out. As he does this, Bob Ford pulls his gun out and shoots and saying "I killed Jesse James". For the next 10 years, Bob profited by telling his side of the story of how he killed him. However, Frank and Jesse we're admired by a lot of people. One man took a disliking to Bob Ford and so did the public. As Bob sat in a saloon, the man walked in and shot him to death as vengeance for killing Jesse. Frank eventually turned himself in and spent something like 10 years for bank robbery.
Hi Britt, a Brit here. Loving your stuff x
You need to jump on the REN train. Especially ‘Hi REN’ he will blow your mind.
Promise❤
"Hi Ren" was 🤯.
@@shmamycakes unique.
Phenominal artists! You should listen to their album "Heroes!" React to some Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson duets, too please?
For some reason listening to this made me think of Ronnie Millsap. I think you should check out a few of his songs... A little back story sad but interesting... Musician Ronnie Milsap was born blind and shunned by his mother, who believed his blindness was punishment from God. He was raised by his grandparents, learned Braille at the age of 6, and lost the last remnant of his sight after a blow from a teacher at school.
Songs like this one make people think that Johnny Cash spent time in prison. He didn't. I heard him being interviewed by Ralph Emery who was a very famous DJ on WSM Radio in Nashville and he told Ralph that he had never been in prison because he had never committed a felony. He had committed some misdemeanors and he spent perhaps more than one time in a county jail but in this interview he told Ralph about the time he spent the night in some little small-town jail and he said that the next morning when the sheriff came to let him out the sheriff was clearly not happy with him. He told him, "My wife is a huge fan of yours and when I went home last night and told her that I had Johnny Cash locked up in my jail, she cried all night. Get out of here and don't EVER let me see you again because I never want to spend another night listening to my wife cry because you are locked up!" Cash said that had an extremely sobering effect on him. He said that up to that time he had just regarded the things he had been doing as rather harmless pranks but this statement from the sheriff and the thought of a fan of his crying all night because he was in jail did a great deal to make him determine to change his life around.
He recorded an album live at San Quentin Prison and one live at Folsom Prison and he recorded songs with lyrics about being in prison and these things combined made people think he had done time. He hadn't! His song, "If they freed me from this prison, If that railroad train was mine, I bet I'd move it over a little farther down the line, far from Folsom Prison, That's where I want to stay, And I'd let that lonesome whistle blow my blues away." was just that...a song! It was NOT something he had actually experienced and the fact that many people believe it was true, just proves what an excellent storyteller he was!
It most likely was effortless. They've know each other since the begging of their career. Jessy James was a outlaw.
