Thanks! We are wanting to put our old oval glass insert (we purchased a new front door) into an interior foam core door to a master bathroom - this kinda shows what kind of door to look for and how it would be done. Any videos on that sort of project?
You would just need to cut the hole in the new door the correct size. Maybe use the door that you took it out of as a pattern. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
Do you have any thoughts about laying a bead of clear silicon caulk to the inside edge of the oval so as to improve the seal and weatherproofing? By the way, thanks for producing and sharing this video.
This is was very helpful I have the same door mine is just brown but I’m going to paint it white and get some frosted glass if you don’t mind me asking do you know if lows sales the glass frosting the spray on kind?
Hi there, thanks for your video! I need to replace the glass in our front door but I'm not sure who the manufacturer is. Did it happen to say the manufacturer's name on the window insert when you took it out?
Not that I know of, If you don't know the manufacturer is may be printed on the side of the door between the hinges or even printed on the top if the door has not been painted. Other than that it is hard to tell without being a "door expert". Hope this helps, Thanks for watching.
My door / oval frame looks the same but I do not have any holes in the frame like you do, any suggestions on how I can get the glass out? The outside glass is shattered, so you know if I can just have the glass repaired?
I’m about to install a door like this on my house. Would I be able to do this before I paint the door or is it too complicated and I’m better off taping everything off?
You can do this either way, before or after paint. If you are not painting the trim then I would take the glass out, paint and then install the new glass. Hope this helps, Thanks for watching.
Good video. Now I know exactly how to remove the sidelite. Do you happen to know if you can just replace the outer clear glass on a sidelite? Looks like just the outer one was shattered by previous owner. The other two pieces of glass are fine.
Both pieces of glass will have to be replaced at the same time they are sealed together both the inner and outer pieces of glass. Hope this helps, thanks for watching.
@@funbro1 Thanks for the answer. Now hopefully, I can find someone here locally that can do this for me. The interior clear glass and the middle, designed glass are fine. Just the exterior clear glass is the damaged one.
Bob. I wNt to keep the glass. Was wondering if I can take apart the glass. Clean it and put new seal in glass. I have two doors so they have to match so I need the same glass
As every manufacturer is a little different you must go to the manufacturer of the door to get the moulding. Perhaps a custom shop could make it but the easiest and cheapest way is to go with the manufacturer. Thanks for watching.
My glass pane just looks like it needs cleaned in between the detailed one and the inside one. Once you got the glass out was it one sealed piece or could you separate the panes of glass?
It should be sealed together. If you have dirt, dust, condensation, or anything else between the glass then the seal is broken and should be replaced. Thanks for watching.
You could always hold the board up and trace it from the other side if the glass is gone. If not it would be a little trial and error. Best of luck Thanks for watching.
I don’t know if this is a Stanley door but if you are going to drill a hole start with a small drill bit and use a pick to pull the plugs. It doesn’t wed to be drilled that deep either. Hope this helps, thanks for watching.
I have half cercle door glass insert. It looks like the rubber weather strip needs to be changed. You can see them through the window. How do I change that? Do you have a video or could you make one to show how to do that. Thank you!
If you are referring to anything between the 2 pieces of glass then you will need a whole new piece because that is a sealed unit. Hope this helps, Thanks for watching.
They would need to come from the manufacturer to fit correctly. Might need to contact them to get the right ones. I would just call them screw caps. Thanks for watching.
I have the exact door you use in this video. I had the bad idea to take the oval glass to paint the door gray. When I unscrewed all the screws, both panels detached from the glass and the glass fell on my leg and foot (big bruise but I'm ok). When trying to put them back, four screws keep spinning, keeping a space between the panels and the door. The neighbor thinks the it's stripped. Unfortunately, my experience was not as smooth as yours. ;(
That’s a bummer, I hope your bruise is healing and you were not hurt too bad. It does sound like the holes are stripped out to me as well. Thanks for watching.
There should be a small space between the window in the door for expansion. It is possible that your window is fit too tight into the door. You may have to remove one side of the molding and take a look and make sure that the window is not rubbing on the door. Thanks for watching.
I believe I have the same exact door and my glass just broke 🙄🥺can you tell me what's the manufacturer to that door you fixed so I can check prices please.
Unfortunately that is something specific to each door so it would have to come from the manufacturer of the door. Hope this helps, Thanks for watching.
For a direct replacement you need the same size from the door manufacturer. That is not to say that if you were creative enough that a different manufacturers window or a different size wouldn't fit in. It would however require some cutting of the door which at that point it may be easier to replace the whole door. Hope this helps, Thanks for watching.
I know this is 6+ yrs old but my glass insert is not broken but it came unglued from the door and dropped about half an inch. What type of adhesive do you think I would need to use to glue the insert back on with? The molding is still sealed to the glass on the exterior side of the door. I kept saying glue or adhesive but I'm talking about the caulking. Sorry
Hi my name is Jose I live in Vernon CT I got the same problem with my Stanley door but I don't know where to get a new glass window if you have the phone #to order one
Hello, out of curiosity do you recall the measurements from this insert? I understand that you did this several years ago, but I have tried and tried to find a replacement (even contacted Stanley) and I can’t find a replacement for my measurement. I keep finding some ovals that are slightly bigger, and wondered if that would actually work without me having to modify the integrity of the cutout.
I do not remember the dimensions of this window, I do know that without modification you will have to have the exact model of door and go to that particular manufacturer. Thanks for watching
Most manufacturers print or put a decal/sticker on the thin part of the door. Check the top and the part inside the hinge. Other than that I’m not sure how you would know.
There is nothing wrong with the window, but the trim frame around the window is warped, rotting and a former tenant painted both door and trim. I need to know where I can get a replacement trim or frame, whatever it is actually called. It is my intention to restore the door to its original color and replace whatever that trim around the window is called.
