  • Pretty good gear labs update, now people have a reason to do OS that have been slacking on it.

      I was so confused, someone told me it's a good CA secondary, but I hadn't tried it yet, my first built so far went to NJ right away lol. I knew they were Montana's secondaries though, so were more meant for them.

      @@novatopaz9880 Huh, I was comparing the icon to Montana's secondaries in WoWs, I knew it was abit squatter and wider than the twin 127s like we already had, but even WoWs has them as 127s.

      @@novatopaz9880 From what I can find on NavWeaps, they were a study design that lead to the 5"/54s meant for Montana, mainly because 127mm is less mounting weight than 137mm. It later got revived temporarily as a possible CL main battery, though that fell through.

    I still need to learn all the gear stuff. There's so much detail involved in the equipment and learning their names and nicknames.

  • @ThePhengophobe

    I'd say baguette guns aren't as worth building in the lab, not with Iris D2 dropping prints. If you have extra gunpowder and nothing else to use them for, sure, but its better used upgrading torpedoes or other, harder to get guns. The precursor to Seattle gun needs it, as well as a few other harder to get equipment.
    The 457 is almost easier to grind PR for, but if you're diligent in OpSi, you can get those rainbow plans in the shops, I wouldn't recommend combining gold plans for them.
    Right now, the UR AA gun should be a low priority, alot of other things need electronics, and are more immediantly useful, but having some for 13 Hard will be a good idea, so if you've not got any other immediate needs, building up a few for the future looks to be worthwhile.

    • @IanGerritsen
      @IanGerritsen Před rokem +1

      It'll depend a lot on the players resources I guess but most of us late game players are blocked only by the circuit boards and have immense amounts of the rest of the OS mats. Burning oil on D2 instead of 11-1 or 13-4 or whatever will be a worse tradeoff for them.

    • @ThePhengophobe
      @ThePhengophobe Před rokem +1

      @@IanGerritsen True, but there's not much else to spend oil on in the War Archive. It's abit of a shame not using your 4 keys per day, so my philosophy has been to grind either Iris D2 or Checkmate D1 for the quad torps, though recently I've been going around, 3 starring maps and getting the 60 run reward SSrs to turn into medals. I'm usually sitting on too much oil, so need something to do with it, grinding gear in War Archive is much cheaper than using materials, especially if you min/max with 1:1 fleets or otherwise efficient setups.
      I tend to like making one of the odd/non meta gears for collections sake, so while I do have alot of rubber and alloys, I'm always using gunpowder or circuits. Gunpowder is used in many of the guns, so making IB guns has been a drain for me, and torpedo upgrades also use gunpowder, so getting Bidders will also drain it.

    • @jamesyoung151
      @jamesyoung151 Před rokem

      @@ThePhengophobe I know Iris D2 is oil capped. You can run full fleets at the oil cap especially if you need to level ships. The SP stages are not oil capped, that much I do know. Overall, I agree it's cheaper to grind for gears. I also sit on way too much oil. I have a tendency to save oil. I rarely run below 19K oil at any given time.

    • @ThePhengophobe
      @ThePhengophobe Před rokem

      @@jamesyoung151 Huh, I hadn't been noticing them oil capped, that's even better then. I tend to play around my cap pf 16k, but recently it's been s struggle to have enough time to use up all that I'm gaining, so I'm regularly well over that, into 18 and 19k.

    • @jamesyoung151
      @jamesyoung151 Před rokem +1

      @@ThePhengophobe Agreed. I'm constantly farming for baguette guns. Once I have enough, I'll switch to the gold quad homing torps. I have 4 currently, but I want more of them. I do want to convert them to the rainbow quads in a period of time. For now, they're very good as is.

      Most of the gold CA cruiser guns are better than the 283mm that the Deuthland and P class can equip. Only really put it on if you know your going to go up against a lot of shields, in which case some damage is better than no damage.

      You're likely going to want CBs as tanks, most would do better than CAs, but you can definitely still use CAs, especially if they have useful skills, like Chikuma for a CV fleet, though she'd be a good bit squishier than other tanks.

    DO NOT build SEATTLE GUNS from the gear lab, you want to save on the ordnance blueprints as much as possible now for the future content. Seattle guns can be grinded normally via research and exchanged monthly via appropriate pbs in the prototype shop, which is far more cost-efficient.
    Flapjack's only point of existence is a slight PvP upgrade and lower speed which theoretically allows it to deal more damage on-screen, pass.
    If you're an advanced/veteran player and somehow don't own the proto twin 457mm Mk A yet, you should be grinding appropriate research instead; these aren't cheap at all to make in gear lab (don't forget you still need to build the proto 406mm mk4 as a prerequisite) - they might not take rainbow designs but take rainbow ordnance which is very expensive to exchange and it's SR equivalents can be used better to manufacture appropriate SR gear instead. That particular choice in gear lab is meant more as a stop-gap for veterans to get their second/third gun to complete a full fleet, rather than a choice for newbies. If you're a newbie/intermediate, get one or two but what the hell have you been doing so far? Go grind those research missions while getting bps for your proto ships, which is far better long-term investment.
    Proto Twin 137mm Mk1 dual-purpose is meant as a secondary for BBs AND CAN BE EQUIPPED ONLY BY BBs. It's a good upgrade all-round - especially for older/USS battleships which lack cruiser mounts but not the best choice for pvp due to their horrendously slow fire rate; all in all - not really worth it over twin 128mm/45 sk c/41, especially if you're not into hot-swapping gears because pvp, lol.
    The new timed fuse AA gear is technically meant for future content so not really worth gloating over right now and negligible upgrade at most in terms of british twin 134mm. Avoid.
    New triple 203mm Mk IX only makes sense for like a few shipfus in-game and you're definitely not sortieing them. Pass.
    Single 138.6mm widely available right now and very cheap to manufacture. These are actually worth their salt provided you take a couple points in mind - these used to be the top DD guns until recent mechanic changes and addition of the new standard ammo (normal) DD guns, like the Tashkent gun and recent chinese knock-offs, which are actually fairly easy to grind via research. They are vastly superior in every single way over the french baguette gun bar heavy opponents, where HE ammo actually reigns supreme. All in all still powerful and definitely good to craft as a supplement to equip your DD fleet for pve/mob grinding and avoid constant gear swapping. again, these are comparably dirt cheap to most of other lab gear and there's no more reason to grind those old re-run maps.
    The new rainbow french bofors is probably the only gear that's worth crafting, provided: you have actual AA rainbow bps - UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE, DO NOT SWAP YOUR UNIVERSAL RAINBOW BPS FOR AA BPS TO BUILD THIS ONE - as well as you can afford making them as they are hilariously expensive to craft (effin 60 electric components per gun!). Another note - these are still accelerator guns and act as ones, they aren't really that much more efficient - especially cost-wise - over quadruple bofors and aren't a replacement for the BB STAAG. They are meant to min-max your fleet AA and as such, should mostly go on your best DDs (like Shima, Yuu etc) or whatever best CL you have. Generally - if you can't afford these, DO NOT BUILD THEM, they won't really make your fleet super-duper stronger.
    All in all, a rather underwhelming gear update in overall but at least we got cheap baguettes and the rainbow stuff, so there's that. hopefully future brings more interesting prospects, especially with the new ordnance bp upgrade in stock.
