Not because it is, but because you suggest a self development path for those who want to learn on their own. There are many out there who put themselves on a superior position, maybe caused by their formal-education ego, but for some reason you must follow their same steps, which means you'll never be as awesome as they are.

    My formal education was Mathematics and am now working as a Data Analyst. I would say that my Intro course for Discrete math is the single most applicable math class I took relative to my current job. Understanding set theory basics (A intersect B, A Union B, B not A, etc.) are foundational to structuring SQL (or any other) joins correctly. The ideas behind it are pretty intuitive, so most people can do analytics without having Discrete Math training, but the people I work with who studied Set Theory write joins quicker, more intuitively and accurately than those who didn't.

      I love this and it's something I've been thinking about more over the past few years having worked with people reskilling in remote work. I look back on my career and learning paths, to date, and it was rare that an industry or roles were well outlined (including in a degree program where we only learned well into year 2 what paths there might be ahead, and this was mostly from previous learners).
      It would be great to see potential/recommended learning paths and career paths more clearly outlined for everyone from younger learners to people throughout their careers to help people make more informed decisions on where to take their learning or careers. Obviously there are great content creators out there making it all clearer, and educators asking great questions, but it would be great to make this more of the norm.
      Great content Luke and great comment Steve!

I also got quite good with tableau. I landed on a job as both developer and data analyst. As much as I love data, I just never find myself being that good of a data analyst. I would like to ask you, I am starting my path to be a mechanical engineer, but for the last months I have been enrolled with the Data Analytics Certificate by Google. Thats a good question. To be come a Data Analyst, I don't think you need to have a "Data Science degree" BUT I do think that having a degree is valued by employers; whether it is in a related field or not. My recommendation would be to get the degree (maybe even evaluate switching to something more aligned with your interest as well)

    Awesome video like always! I'm curious to know what you think about using Salesforce as part of a DA's toolkit. It didn't come up in your LinkedIn scraping which I'm not surprised. But I wonder, will it become more important in the future as more companies are moving to Salesforce as their CRM?

    • @LukeBarousse
      @LukeBarousse  Před 2 lety +1

      Yeah Salesforce is a very niche tool, so I don't think it really comes close to the popularity of these other tools.
      That being said, In my last role we were integrating and starting to use SalesForce. So I do think it's not a bad choice to learn, but may not be applicable to all analysts depending on their company even uses Salesforce or not.

    Hello Luke, I came across several courses online and noticed that in a majority of them, if you want to become a Data Analyst, you will need to know Excell (pivot tables, V-Lookups, which I actually like), SQL, Tableau, Python, and some others. I guess my question is becoming a Data Analyst still worth pursuing, even in this current job market, especially being an entry-level Data Analyst? If you have the skills and want a job, are there any temp agencies that specifically work to recruit IT personnel such as Data Analysts? Other than soft skills, are there other skills, soft skills, or tech skills, that would benefit an entry-level Data Analysts in the current job market? Other than LinkedIn, what are the best job sites to find jobs to work as a Data Analyst, in-office or remote?
