- What do real therapists think about the therapy sessions in Never Have I Ever? In honor of Bebe Moore Campbell Minority Mental Health Awareness month, Dr. Joy and Beverly Andre react to scenes from the show. In the series, Devi spends a lot of time with her therapist Dr. Ryan. Together, they work to build the tools Devi needs to manage her grief, her anger, her relationships, and more.

A new love life, a new classmate and new reasons to bicker with mom give Devi plenty more ways to make courageous moves... and questionable decisions. - Zábava
When she said, "you'll live a life that is EMOTIONALLY RICH", I was like that is me. People will say you're too emotional but no, you're emotionally rich.
love this.
Same. Also last year i realized the term was HSP - Highly Sensitive Persons
People always called me too emotional or sensitive because I am really empathetic and in touch with my inner thoughts so I always blamed myself for it. But now that I’m older, it’s not a flaw at all since we’re able to sense and see things that others may not. We should be proud to be emotionally rich. Absolutely beautiful
@@riveroverland5902 omg this is so true
Yassss broke-asses
I love Dr Ryan so much, and I can understand her exasperation over Devi repeatedly storming into her office to vent, even if she hasn't booked an appointment!
I love this 😭 I honestly love the therapist on never have I ever, shes amazing and hilarious!
Me too, Dr Ryan is so grounded, and the most sensible person in the show!
That's the wonderful Niecy Nash. I met her in Atlanta a little more than a decade ago. She's just as grounded, naturally funny and real in person. She gave me aunty/mama/bff vibes. I'm so glad she's still getting tons of work. She and her wife are amazing humans who add color to everything they touch. I follow them on IG.
Same 😭
@@trinaqtrue ❤
dr ryan is everything
She really is amazing.
I will always love Never Have I Ever bc of its portray of what effective therapy looks like. Also I appreciate that the show had a woman of color as the therapist/psychologist. These are important messages for the younger audience to see.
It's not effective therapy though and real therapists have debunked it as Dr Ryan is too judgemental instead of being impartial. These two therapists are being paid by Netflix to praise the show.
The last scene of Dr. Ryan talking to Davi was the one that most touched my heart. Everything she said about being hurt and that it is okay, was just beautiful.
ikr !! it became my whole comfort scene honestly , definitely rewatching that scene everytime im on my lowest forsure
doctor ryan is that one character that will always be there to help devi
YES 🙌.
Let's appreciate how Netflix managed to make this therapist relation so adorable and not clique at all.
Edit: Cliche 🤦
@Too Cool For Cardi
Thanks
😳😳😳
English is my third language so I am trying to get better 😊
@@ahanaroy4702 I think you're killing it! more power.
“Devi YOURE holding that pen like a knife again” LMAOOOO AHAHAHAHA
3:39 this scene really needs a lot of appreciation. The dialogues were so good and heart touching.
That ending scene talking about her feeling like she was crazy and Dr. Ryan being there for her, I cried the first time watching it. It was healing for me because I resonate with Devi❤ So glad they put that in the show.
Dr Ryan is my favourite character in NEVER HAVE I EVER.
Thank you NETFLIX for giving Dr Ryan, we can really solve some of our problems via Devi and her talks with her therapist as well.
can we just give up to Niecy Nash for her amazing portrayal of this character?!
Great content! To everyone watching, is okay to be scared to go to therapy, is a brave decision, but if you feel you need to talk your mind out with someone don't doubt about looking for professional help. The road might be rough but the destination will be beautiful.
@Sasha أسد i think they just got therapists regardless of their race
@Sasha أسد I can see what you mean, it's a valid point- woulda been nice to include a South Asian therapist to keep the same thing going. But another point: the show is centered around an Indian girl *along with other people of color* included-- we shouldn't negate the fact that at least they had POC therapists in the vid
love how the therapists were all women of colour!! also love dr beverly's outfit so much
“Including my old ass grandma” 😂😂😂😂😂😂
having 2 professionals is actually better than one because that way they can talk about it and share their views. i loved it ❤
Wish these therapy sessions were there in Indian schools and colleges too, just like in the States. That would be extremely helpful to more than half the students in India!
i agree!
Idk if parents will be supportive of that.. I can literally hear them say "u r just a kid what do u need therapy for??"
@@girliewhoischronicallyonline therapy is for white people is still common answer
Yeah the therapy sessions could be useful to indians.
These two therapists genuinely seem like the kindest, most competent mental health professionals ever. They're the real life Dr. Ryans and the world needs more of them 🙏🏻
I love this show so much, especially for the way it normalizes Devi's intense emotions. Dr. Joy and Dr. Beverly nailed it. Great depiction of a healthy patient-therapist dynamic.
Dr Ryan is a really good therapist
We all know what we really want is an hour long video of a therapist reacting to YOU
We all need a Dr. Ryan.
YESSSS give me more content like this please
I BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE
yeah.. that first bit -- you do NOT barge in on a patient's recounting of a moment. confrontation can be therapeutic af, but if you're timing is wrong? hell no.
Indeed about this therapy show before! What the great and lovely ladies! 👍😍💛💚💙💜💓
More of this type of content Netflix!!!
Especially with these women🙌🏾🙌🏾💛💛
She just made me feel like I need such a therapist myself. 🥺
Dr Joy I LOVE YOUR PODCAST!
Stg I live for Dr. Ryan!!! When I saw her appear on the screen I screamed! I love Niecy Nash was cast and I like the writing so much ❤️
Awesome video. I Love the Dr. Ryan Scene in this show.
Wow this video was really good, loved both the doctors

This was so dope..beautiful queens!!!
Love this!!!
Bro I was just watching never have I ever lol
Great analysis and perfect casting
Loved the video and both therapist! There’s going to be more of these videos, right?
I would love to be able to talk to a therapist like Dr. Ryan!
She's one of my favourite characters in NHIE, and the reason why one day, therapy will cure me completely ❤️
You both look so amazing!
I love the scene where Devi shows Dr Ryan a picture of Paxton. Wish you had reacted to that because it’s hilarious.
I love Dr Ryan ...even Dr Linda in Lucifer...n the therapist in suits..I can't remember his name but the insights these ppl have given is really good..
Love this and their insights! Wish they had shown the scene from Season 1 where Devi asks her therapist to buy her underwear lol
I was dying for a video like that.
I like how they didn’t bag on how unrealistic it is like doctors do on greys or lawyers do on tv lawyers
They can't because they r paid by netflix to promote the show
I was like “is that Dr. Joy???” I love her
And almost all initial sessions they are not discussing the main issue,it took little time to reach to that level of depthness to get undetstand by pt self.
This is really learning
I’ve never been to therapy but those scenes definitely felt sincere and authentic as a casual observer. Still funny too
I love Dr. Joy! 🤗💕💚
Yaasssss! Dr. Joy!! So much love and appreciation for your work on Therapy for Black Girls!! 🤎🖤🤎🖤🤎
Dr. Ryan = The best that we have!
This!❤️
Now do S1 (did It extend into S2 ?) Atypical sessions.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Early!! I love this show!
Ooooo y’all got Dr. Joy?!!! Listen to “Therapy for Black Girls”, guys! I heard her on “The Friend Zone”. She’s amazing
These two ladies are kind of reminiscent of Dr Ryan, don't you think? :)
4:53 no truer words spoken!
Is there more eps of therapists reacting? Or is this new?
There has been. A good one is from GQ
is there gonna be a new kengan ashura season??
Joy is the founder of therapyforblackgirls😊🙏🏽 she’s great
I need Netflix to watch this 😪😭😭😭
I wish these 3 beautiful women would be my therapist for sometime in my life
Hands down to the screenwriter 🔥👏
This is way different from a therapist's perspective who's not paid by Netflix to praise the show
“Imma PHD”
Doctor Ryan is the best character on the whole series, change my mind.
You guys should do this with Ginny & Georgia during Season 2.
❤️❤️
❤️❤️❤️
Will you take the 3rd season of iron fist
POC come thhhhhe rrouuuuughh
This video is really cool and I think the therapist in the show is good, but when she for example says 'wannabe pill popper', I expected that these therapists would be more critical on that. So good, but I'd love for them to discuss a little bit more with a critical eye!
Y’all need to put all the transformers movies
Hi
Young royals season two
fun fact all the therapists seen above have curly hair
Please don’t tell me I’m the only one who read the cover wrong 😃
OMG my Black women are sooo bomb!!!
I more want to know if Dr. Ryan is just in her head.
She is not duh, Dr. Ryan is a real clinical psychologist in the show. Bruh, stop speculating everything as "hypothetical".
@@saujanyaroy4942 Don't read too deep in to my comment. Since S1 i have been play with the idea that she can be part of her mind space in dealing with what she is going through. Because she keep her grounded and tell it as it is and at times you see Davi personality showing it off when she is giving honest advice and in S2 you can see it more. It just and idea i play with in my head. So Never Would I Ever Down Play Dr. Ryan and her being real.
Devi's mother met her too
Uhm... Im Sorry But Where Is The Stranger Things Season 4 Release It Please Friends Don't Lie! You Know That Right?

They sound like robots
Therapists or The rapists?
I surprised they did not title this "Strong Black Therapy" or something like that.
No need when we have you!! 😘
@so what no, I hope not.. its just my light observation. Im mixed black and white if that adds clarity.
the therapist on the shows acting was so terrible 😭
Therapist shouldn't have an eating disorder. First solve your own problems and addictions!
First of all, you need to get some education. First of all, therapists are not required to be a size zero or 2. Second, not all people that are heavier have eating disorders. It is like someone saying all under weight people are anorexic or bullimic. There are several health conditions that affect weight no matter how little or much you eat, due to numerous factors including the medications they are on. Finally you judge but you don't know the history. They could have been working on weight loss for years and you are seeing 30 or more pounds lost but it took 5 yrs to get there. There are doctors that are vegetarians and ran marathons but after anaccident because they cannot move like they used to are considered obese. They don't have an eating disorder. On the other hand, many recovering addicts, suicide survivors and those that had such things as eating disorders have gone and became therapists because they have been through such things.
@@candilynnn no that is wrong. These women have addiction issues
@s.o.s. diy repair Stop making excuses to be a bitch
Doctors have bad health, nutritionist eat candy, some teachers cant teach. Being a therapist doesnt mean that you wont have issues dealing with your own problems.
