    Your explanation of avoiding a skip stitch while turning a corner was 💡 for me! Thank you so much 💓 Also the sewing a straight edge I'm definitely going to give it a try.

    Great tutorial Sara! I appreciate all that you teach ; you have given me much knowledge, tips, trade secrets to making my projects look professional. I am so glad someone asked you to produce this video because many of us have this problem. I too mark with erasable pen stitching lines and it’s so time consuming to do that.
    This video is a keeper in my folder to get a refresher on sewing through the curves .
    Thank you 🙏🏻 🙏🏻🙏🏻 for putting in the effort to teach us .
    May you have a great Christmas season with your family and friends. Santa always come for the good and generous people …you’re on that list!!

    Sara - when you talked about the etchings on the plate making some uneven curves, I had the same issue. In some experimenting, I have found that looking at where the vertical etchings intersect with the horizontal etching that extends out from the needle really helps with consistency. When I started focusing on the exact spot where those intersect, my curves really improved. I do like the line hack in this video and will need to try it!

    Your fix for the skipped stitches is brilliant. Could you do a video to show how you do it in a curve?

    this was very helpful, as i have issues with curves and the square. Do you have a video on how to straight topstitch, that is a real challenge.

    Staples is like magic to me. Where I live we don't have access to double sided tape so I also use it for zips.

    I tried using staples to help attaching a very rounded gusset, unfortunately the stapler didn’t work with two layers of foam and fabric and piping. I was however able to feel the piping and draw a stitching line with a frixion pen. Thanks so much for the ideas.

    Thanks for the demo,amazing as always. The bags I’ve been doing are generally out of quilting cotton however, I just bought a bunch of duck cloth because it looked like it would make a great,sturdy bag. The problem is when I go to topstitch anything such as around the zipper or at the top ledge of the bag it looks absolutely horrible! The stitch line is just all over the place and the stitches don’t look even, it’s embarrassing! I just finished 2 and their really cute but the stitching stinks. I’ve used AP,DD and 100% cotton and none seem to make a difference. I’ve moved the tension and the stitch length up down and around the corner,still not better.Heeeeeeelp!

    I’m making the Caalvalcade bag - I’m on page 14, paragraph 45. am trying to put the bottom on, but the exterior bottom panel of the bag (with the zipper) is much bigger than the solid bottom panels. I’ve used the quarter markings, but the top and exterior bottom panel is still too big. I tried “easing” them together, but still have too many ugly puckers. Any suggestions, i.e., cut new , bigger bottom panels? Thanks for your help. Bev

    Hi just found your channel and a complete newbie to bag making. What machine do you use and what other recommendations could you give me. I am a hobbyist rather than a business but would like to learn how to make a range of different items. Thanks in advance, I have a lot of your videos to watch!

    You used a 1/4" seam allowance. All the patterns I've used have a 5/8"seam allowance.

      Hi Paula , I am been sewing only two plus years , I watch soooo many CZcams tutorials to learn since no sewing classes available during Covid. For clothing , sewist use 5/8 inch seam allowance, for crafting like making bags and quilting many use 1/4 inch seam allowance to reduce bulk.
      For clothing, 5/8 inch gives you tolerance to expand a little if one needs to adjust later for sizing.
      That was what I learnt.

    • @paulacornelison243
      @paulacornelison243 Před rokem

      @Emeilada The average seam allowance is 5/8. While the technique is the same as for 14", the distance from the needle is different. I believe she was asking about a 5/8 seam allowance. Remember that you sew curves on more than purses.
      Thank you for responding.

    • @paulacornelison243
      @paulacornelison243 Před rokem

      @Berniece lee The craft patterns I have used have 5/8" seam allowances. Many patterns instruction say to grade the seam allowance.
      The lady who asked the original question wrote in a general way. The answer came back as if she cuts everything seam to 1/4".
      I'm glad to hear from you.

    I wonder what would happen if you washed this bag or any of them, all fabric bags will need to be washed. can you wash one then show us how it holds up after. i see wo men with bags that are sewn with fabric, but are dingy if not gross! can you prove to your viewers that you can wash your bags, not just one of the styles but maybe a few. if i sewed a bag, and could not wash it id toss it after a while
