- Recap of the history of the K120/D120F Fender Orange frame.
The orange frame Fender/JBL D120F is, in fact a K120. JBL was in transition with fully developing the K-Series with a cloth, double half-round surround. A higher power voice coil was developed a year or two before 1974 while the grey D120F was still in production. The left over grey frame D120F was carried forward to the K120, but with a relief machined into the center of the cast iron housing for the foilcal label. So...the orange frame/black motor was devised by Fender to keep the well known "D120F" model number, but functionally is a K120.
This was a fun and interesting find and discovery of this transition period.
