If you're interested in watching more, talented drummers, I'd recommend reacting to one of Baard Kolstad's drum cam videos. Dynamics is his specialty :)
This was my wife’s first Tool show. She’s not a huge fan so I told her to pay attention to Danny. She was blown away and came away with a new appreciation for what 4 guys with instruments can do on a stage.
That's awesome
I see what you did there and your right all 4 play instruments cause Maynard’s voice is definitely an instrument 🤘. Good call
I agree...Maynard has his vocals recorded lower so it won't over power the music. He let's them do there thing and just adds to it. He is def an instrument
There's passive listening and active listening. I've played music all throughout my house for years and my gf always tells me to change it when "hard rock" 🙄 comes on my playlist. Took her to a tool show and in the middle of EVERY song she'd turn to me and shout "OMG THESE GUYS ARE SO GOOD!" With an unspoken tone of, "like why haven't you plaid them at home before". 🤦🏼♂️
@@osimo600rr lol that's funny
They are all incredibly special in their own way but Danny, to me, is absolutely mind blowing. I do not understand how a human mind can do what he's doing.
There are a few that can play it, but he wrote it. Amazing the way his mind puts drums to music.
well. years and years of training. we all have the potential for great things but it takes dedication and time. on a pro level these people spend 8 hours+ a day on practice. do this for a few decades and you get someone like danny who at age 60 seems like at the peak of his profession. he's as great as ever and no sign of loosing his abilities. i mean look at him. he's friggin buff. and the polyrhythmic stuff... it just shows we he rightfully earned the nickname octopus.
He is a freaking Octopus.
Agreed!! He's in a league of his own!! Absolute best!!
I remember that I few months I searched "DrumRollTony Pneuma" just to be disappointed for not finding it.
This does put a smile on my face.
Ha ha took me forever
Danny Carey = The G.O.A.T.
"and we've returned" that's the perfect explanation for this song! It's like going on a journey.
Have watched every, yes, every reaction to this song from curious folk to "drum teacher".
This was by FAR the best analysis.
You noticed all the nuances and appreciated them, as appropriate.
Sub'd
Thank you much
@@DrumRollTonyReacts im surprised u're not noticed the hesitation and mistake on his left hand on 13:15
so far only 1 react guy i saw (among a lot) noticed this mistake
@@beussta ok
The Daily Doug is my fav reaction to this song, and many others, his enthusiasm and insight is unmatched.
Same
probably the best reaction i've seen to this drum cam. finally, someone who can add to my appreciation of danny's drumming.
Danny Carey is the only drummer that makes you want to play drums, but whenever you see him play drums it makes you want to quit.
👀 I have a long list of those 😅
I’ve seen this like a hundred times but it still astonishes me. Insane.
Same!! 🖤🤘
Let us not forget Danny was 59 years old at the time of this filming!
I appreciate people like Danny. They spend the time, energy and effort to show you what people are capable of. One of my favortie pastimes is just watching masters of something perform their craft.
I'm a guitarist but I sat here with my jaw hanging open in amazement, Jeez, Danny Carey is a drum stick slinging badass. Great reaction Sir. Subscribed
【Audrey Shida-Guitar】 One camera. No trick edits. Full song.
Tool / "Sober" czcams.com/video/tD0NQ8nCE-Y/video.html
Such a controlled and consistent drummer.
Danny is my favorite drummer of all time. He makes drumming look effortless which I know is not! I’m not even remotely coordinated enough for drumming. But I love watching!
You gave us by far the best breakdown of this video, and of Danny in general. I can't recall a single video of anyone picking up on half of what you did.
Thank you for such an enjoyable analysis! 🤘
So much talent. I'm not a musician. I can appreciate this so much. Makes me happy
Fave Tool song is Reflection, even without it’s related songs Disposition and Triad, an absolute masterpiece on every level.
And a little known fact, that Danny Carey as well as being an incredible drummer, is also a professional basketball for the Boston Celtics. Incredible how he finds the time.
it's more impressive that he can trn into a basketball
@@18hot30 professional basketball...not some ridiculous rec league shit....
I bet he dribbles in 11/8 timing
All while being an octopus.* Amazing talent
*there are no rules against an octopus playing basketball.
Danny carey doesnt find the time, the time finds danny carey
The crazy part is trying to convince people that he only has 2 arms
My favorite Tool song is Parabol+Parabola. When Maynard screams "ALIVE" in the song, the volume is at max. XD
I'm a simple man, see the Danny Carey Drum cam of "Pneuma" being reacted to, I watch, I like, I leave comment, and I subscribe.
His accenting Manyards vocals with the hiHat , snare and later in the song with his cymbals!! iSo sick! What a drummer!
Great video and reaction. It’s like a better written heavier doors song with good musicians 😂
Danny is a monster, mesmerizing was a perfect description.
Probably the best take I’ve seen of Danny’s playing on this track! Thanks Tony! Loved it.
One of the best songs ever lyrically and musically 💯🔥🤘. The whole world should be listening to Tool
Excited for this one for sure. Been a fan for 30 years.
Everything I watch that video I'm amazed at how well mic'd and mixed it is for a live show. It sounds amazing!
I'm not a drummer, but totally feel you on the melodic groove of this performance; so much texture
AND HE'S 61 YEARS OLD!!!!!!! What a BEAST!
What a fantastic review. I love listening to people who knows what their talking about review this. You did such a great job with your knowledge and you can identify a true percussion genius like Danny
What a masterpiece!
I can just imagine the kind of insurance policy on this man's arm's or his hands alone. Absolutely crazy.... 😳
Lol I bet
So much respect to you. The only honest reaction I’ve seen
..best pneuma reaction ever, and i’ve watched a dozen. been waiting for the technical analysis. nice work, man..
I loved your reaction man, I'm not a drummer but it's always so great to see someone knowledgeable of the art watching a marvel in motion as Danny is :)
You’re the first drummer reactor that’s I’ve seen notice the FLAWLESS transition from doubles to singles in the intro! 😍
This is in my top 5 CZcams videos. I'm glad you reacted to this.
The first honest professional reaction!!!
been waiting for this one
Thank you 🙏 🙏
Danny brings the thunder and I just love it !
Danny... The Beast... The GOAT!
So glad you got to this one! 💪
he's got the Neil Peart ride pattern working
Far and away the best reaction by someone who knows drums.
I love reactions from people who actually speak music react to tool.
Good stuff.
People actually believe this is not real. I saw tool in concert in Augusta Georgia. And trust me when I say they sound exactly like this live. The concrete was vibrating.
46 and 2 was my favorite
All the way to your bone marrow.
Danny is 58 years old at this point!! Wild
A classic video, awesome!
Gotta love the Mandela drum pads custom built by DC with Mandela
Danny Carey is a beast! Nice vid. Favorite Tool song has to be Vicarious for me.
Favourite Tool song would have to be Lateralus. Just an all round performance from every member of the band. A masterclass in build up and payoff for a prog rock song. Yeah Maynard may think it's trivial, and people may meme on the composition. But I will always appreciate it for how thoughtful everything was put together in this track - and the whole album really.
Mostly agreed, only difference is my fav Tool song is Intention hands down. It just has such a vibe to it, and the way it transitions into Right in Two, another fav of mine, just perfect IMO
@@PerishingPurplePulsar I won't claim to have a favorite, it depends how I feel. However I do feel that Rosetta Stoned is often overlooked in their repertoire.
@@ngcastronerd4791 I was literally playing my bass along to Rosetta Stoned earlier today! Haha
@@PerishingPurplePulsar im stll practising that polyrythmic pass from that song.
@@ngcastronerd4791 Oh I can by no means actually play the bassline, I'm not that good, but I like to put on songs (Esp Tool) and just play by ear, impovise and have fun, it's a great time
Masterclass!
Best reaction I have seen to the video and I have seen tons
Danny Legend's number 33 is hanging in the rafters of The Garden as we speak.
Oh hell yeah!
It looked like you looked away when Danny got that big goofy grin on his face. It's one of my favorite things about this videos.
Proof aliens live among us. The man is not human.
Simply, the best.
I enjoyed that!
My favorite song is probably this one (Pneuma).
They were supposed to come to Vancouver in 2020, but they had to cancel. I've still never gotten to see them live.
Although the other concert I was supposed to see in 2020 was Roger Waters, and that got rescheduled for last year. So, I at least got to see one of my heroes!
Fucking perfection.
Mr. Drumroll THAT! was a masterclass reaction 🤔🥰👍. Your expert explanations and technical jibber jabber was excellent 🙏 . You got my subscription brother, much Aloha from Hawai’i 🇼🇸🎆🎊🥳.
Wow, thanks!
Felt like nice storytelling with drums.
subbed.....Danny is legendary
That took while 😂😂 This is really inevitable for anyone interested in Drum Play. Danny is a Monster ! Confessing Tool Fan ... might be obvious watching my Tattoos 😂
Great analysis. Most reactions are just that: "wow! How does he do that?" You understand it and can talk about it.
'the band sounds good by the way' the fans will be stoked... nice work.
Solo un genio puede tener esa cordinación
0:30 - Those are Mandala drums, and here's a snippet of their properties: "Because a Mandala surface is divided into 128 position rings and can detect 127 strike velocities (greater than 0) it can produce up to 16,256 (128 x 127) individual triggers."
They are crazy. :D
I was at this show in Boston. I love that he’s wearing Bird’s 33 shirt, and I believe the time signature here is 33/4.
The time signature would flow in a grouping sense more focused on the 8th note instead of the qtr. Most likely split splitting up what is divisional by 2 and then odd parts separately. Meaning, we wouldn't count to 33. We feel the patterns 3,3,2 for 7/8 3,2 for 5/8 etc and so on following how the grouping goes. Amazing song and such a cool use of structure
@@DrumRollTonyReacts I know most of this, I’m a hack musician. It still comes out to 33. In my limited musical training I’ve learned you can count however you like. I love your reactions and your musical knowledge!
look at dannys drum clinic of rosettas stoned.. its just incredible dude
pleaaaaaaaseeeeeee
Danny actually accents Maynard’s Cadence during the verse. Kieth Moon used to play off the vocals at times too. It’s unique and difficult.
LESSS GOOO
finaly!
I could be wrong, but my read on the setup for his ride cymbal is maintaining stick angle. If you notice the cymbals he wants to hit the edge of are mounted standard, but cymbals he wants to hit the face of are angled. In my opinion this gives him the option to get really quick transitions from hitting the face of the ride to the edges of the crashes around it because he doesn't have to move his wrist at all.
shame this is pretty much the only good Danny cam out there. Would love something like this on The Grudge
I'd like to see Thomas Lang covering this on Dannys original drumset, i'm sure he could do it worthy. That would be so cool to watch.
❤❤❤❤
❤❤❤❤❤
As a drummer of sorts, I must say that incredible **pop** on that snare makes me cough in my shorts.
"the rim is beefy!"
Danny Carey's snare drum is custom cast bronze and weighs about 40 lbs.
That's wild. Very cool
Now that we are losing so many of the old school great drummers especially progressive ones like Peart and Moon, I see myself on the lookout for the next guys up. There are a lot of great drummers out there on CZcams and on tour, but that next level guy is still rare.
Two at the top of my list are Danny (Tool, obviously), and Vlad with Jinjer. They've continued to show me more and more how precise they are and how effortless they handle odd meters. Danny is like an octopus with his limb independence, and Vlad has so much precision, speed, and groove. That also both have interesting setups that could teach us all a little about ergonomics.
I've seen a lot of reactions and I'm surprised no one noticed that the cymbals were playing to the vocals
solid bronze snare comps of Sonor
Next time you watch this video, Tony, watch the hi hat during the bridge.
🤘🏻🌀
When you take into consideration the age and AWESOME stamina Danny has.... this is textbook stuff for the younger generations...
As a non-drummer this has always stood out to me as a masterclass in drumming - the timing, technique, and power, and most importantly the tastefulness of it all. I'm usually unimpressed by fancy tippy-tappy drumming, favouring instead power and conviction, but this is a huge exception. I'm also not a fan of Tool, but this whole song, including the lyrics, is amazing.
God Mode
You should take a look at the soundtrack for an anime named "Katanagatari", the whole soundtrack is worth a listen but the theme "Bahasa Palsu" especially seems like something you'd enjoy reacting to. It's composed by Iwasaki Tawu, same person who composed the soundtracks for Gurren Lagann, Soul Eater and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Battle Tendency.
It also features vocals/rap by Lotus Juice which also featured predominantly in the Persona 3 soundtrack and in Battle Tendency's soundtrack as well.
Some other tracks that stand out are Bahasu Palsu Jazz 'n Mix(Remix of the first theme), 月刀歌 (Gettouka) and Hanetsuki Imouto
you should react to vildhjarta! any song from their new album
hey Tony ! little request for you : Could you check and analyse the song "Drowned In Emotion" by the group Casckets ? In terms of rythmical and melodical variations, I think this is a pretty well structured song ! In my humble opinion, this group should be more known than that after three or four years on the road, their stuff is really good ! I love your content, keep it up man !
I still think that you should react to Leprous, especially to "The Sky is Red" drum playthrough or the live version of "Slave". You will love Baard Kolstad, i garantee you that
check out the high hat on the right
What a living legend... Danny's not too bad either😂
i really like this kind of intro dude. thank you so much for just getting to it and being a good watch still instead if fluffing the first minute or so with nonsense! earned a subscriber here man
That is funny because this is the first video that I took my intro out, haha. There is a lot we want to tell the audience but about 50% skip it anyhow.
It might feel like nonsense to you but as a CZcamsr I promise its not. Hard ground to move back and forth on, but glad you liked the video
I understand and respect it. I sit through it regardless but I had to get it out there! Love your videos man thanks for uploading
Little known fact , Danny is actually a Octopus trapped in a mans body .
I love watching people out of their depth trying to explain this video.....the timing always leaves them with a brain spasm and explaining things like lighting instead....
Neat
Need to see a sleep token-the summoning reaction, hottest band in metal right now
Just finished recording the reaction video. WOW. Thanks for the suggestion.
