- If your ATV won't start and you hear a clicking sound, chances are the problem is the solenoid. This video walks you through the troubleshooting process, including battery, solenoid, and starter testing. The solenoid mentioned in the video can be found here: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004...

I have a 2012 sportsman 500 ho I'm getting gas and a spark but it still want crank can anyone tell me why not
Ok, here's a project for you to figure out because I don't understand this problem at all. I have a 05 trx350fm Honda Rancher 4x4. So here's the problem, the atv had been setting outside for at least 4 yrs. so I got it and cleaned it up and replace a lot of things on it, but when I rebuilt the starter and put it in the 4 wheeler, well when I try to crank it I can here the starter but it's not turning the motor over. So I took it back off and put my finger in the starter hole and could fell a gear. The gear will turn clock wise easily (clockwise looking at it from the back of the motor). So I took a digital caliper and mic the distance from the gear to where the starter would be if mounted, I also mic the length of the starter gear and the starter gear is plenty long enough to reach the gear inside of the motor.
So I'm at a point to where I have no idea what to do. I would certainly appreciate any bodies help with this. Thanks.

or the pickup under the cover has 3 screws that come loose listen for jingling on the bottom left side of the crankcase you'll hear it jingling inside
arctic cat has hollow shafts and gears that break in kickback condition because they have no timing adjustment its locked at 4 deg btdc if fuel supply gets low it will occur often
due to clogged jets or plugged orifices in the carb
My arctic cat 400 struggles starting, after about a minute or so it eventually starts and idles fine, but when i set brake and start in gear it fires off fine..any idea what may be causing this?
When you say jump the solenoid with the cables...what are you attaching the other end of the batter cables to? The battery? or just leave them unattached? My sportsman wont start, it just clicks once and that's it...I think its the starter or the solenoid. The battery is new.
try putting in a new relay fuse
jump the 2 big + terminals together using pliers or a booster cable, the small post only connects the 2 internally to make contact, it energizes a post like a pin ball flipper actuator making it contact together
best check the fuse thats in the plug wire
So I'm in the middle of nowhere rn when I do the electric start it makes a noise but just won't start so I might have to start pushing wish me luck
So how'd that night turn out 2 years ago?
Habadub legends say he’s still in the middle of nowhere....
I got a polaris an i ran out of gas an so i got it back home an felled it back up an it wouldn't still start what is my probable
+Zach's Gaming Channel I'd say you likely sucked up some dirt/crud from the bottom of your fuel tank. Fuel filter is clogged.
Tey holding your hand over the place were.the breather goes
you Bayou 250 only runs with battery and will die as soon as the battery runs dead
if everything looks ok then you may have a dud cd pack if you cant get spark after the kill switchs are locked out
d2 beans how do u check the cd pack, I lost spark while snow plowing
Thanks for the video, I’m having issues with my Polaris. I’m not happy with it at all. Just joined your channel. Check us out. I have a Polaris video out there.
yo wassup alex jones
all of those problems on a Polaris people need Honda they are very trustable
my honda recon will not start it will start but will not fully crank,
I have the same problem. It ran fine the other day
My cranks over but doesn't' start . Ran perfect the other day
When someone says; "my whatever won't start!". I always ask; "what do you mean?" Not starting means different things to different people. For me; "does it roll over?" is the first question.
spark fuel and compression without 1 you have trouble
Just kickstart it

Time. For a new ATV..Boy
I think I got one of those $100 meters...
...for like 500¢ @ The Harbor of Freights!
If it starts its the sparkplug u could mesure voltage on the solenoid first🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
hey men if i get a spark wen y put the screwdriver betwen the 2 bolts what did that mean ???
A spark is normal. If your solenoid is dead you can start it with screwdriver technique, but don't hold it there for too long. Just long enough to get the bike started. U can straddle the bolts with the screw driver. I did this when my push button start stopped working. It's handy in an emergency.
+OG BB I get a spark when I use that method, but my ATV won't start. it will only spark when I do that, but that's it. My Electric Start wont work either, and I didnt know if replacing the solenoid would fix it or if I would have to do something else
Well screwdriver method is bypassing the solenoid to get power to your starter so if your starter isn't coming on at all, then your starter could be dead or your battery. Have you checked voltage on your battery? It's never going to start if your battery is low on power or dead.
+OG BB yeah, battery is good. All my lights turn on and everything good
+BenPai Well it sounds like you starter could be bad. If battery is fully charged and u bypass the solenoid by holding screwdriver across the 2 posts for at least 2 seconds and nothing happens your starter might be bad. Usually it'll cause a spark but at the same time you'll hear the starter running. The starter is a PITA to change but sounds like that might be your problem.
This is only for the starter... there are plenty of other reasons an atv won't start
The problem? It's not a Honda!
I got a Honda same prob
lol
12v is not healthy. A 12v battery should be around 13.6v if fully charged. The listed voltage of 12v is only the nominal voltage, not the actual voltage.
Jason Wong no 12.6 is normal and 13.2 to about 15 when it is running

Im too big muscles so i could’nt get in without taking the whole damn plastic off
