  • This is a red spinach (Amaranth) plant that has been harvested for the second time
and today we will share how to grow spinach from the leaves, not from seeds
what we need is a 2 kg plastic bag, it doesn't have to be new, you can recycle
and this is regular soil, it doesn't have to be fertile
because root growth tends to be faster in soil that is less fertile
we cut the spinach like this
we include the stem a little, because in this branching area new shoots will grow
we can fill one plastic bag with 4-5 leaves, but here we only fill 2
then add a little water if the soil is a bit dry
but if the soil is wet, don't add water
blow into it then tie it with a rubber band
this will provide enough carbon dioxide so that the leaves stay alive and photosynthesize
then put them in a shaded place that is not exposed to direct sunlight
    this is after 2 weeks
for you who are new to this channel, you may be confused as to why put them in a plastic bag?
why didn't I just plant the leaves directly in the soil like with other plants
planting cuttings directly in the ground can be done for plants or parts of plants that are resistant to dehydration
for example, woody stems, or very thick leaves
while thin leaves and non-woody stems like spinach will quickly become dehydrated and die after being cut
by putting it in plastic like this will prevent dehydration
and give the plant time to stay alive while growing new roots to be able to take water from the soil
the leaves are even still fresh and not wilted
and while they are inside this plastic container, there is no need to water it at all
because the water in the soil that evaporates will be trapped in the plastic container, condensates, and then fall back to the ground
so it's like continuous mini rain
we take this out to see the roots
but if you try it later, you can just plant it directly,
this is just to show that the roots have indeed grown
this is only in 2 weeks, the root is much more robust compared to if we plant from seeds
then we can plant them in the final container, use fertile planting media
we usually use a mixture of soil and compost 1:1
take care of it as usual
and after 3-4 weeks we will be able to harvest them
This method is 2-3 weeks faster compared to growing from seeds
See you in the next video
