  • Toady we will share how to grow Jalapeño Pepper in recycled plastic bottle, One of the most famous types of chili from Mexico
For the seeding containers, we use a 1.5 L plastic bottle, cut the top but not completely cut off
and punch holes on the side to the bottom
planting medium we use is a 1:1 mixture of soil and compost
fill about a third of bottle
These are the jalapeno pepper seeds
you can use seeds from a ripe fruit (red, not green)
but you can also buy the seeds online
we use this container because it will protect the newly grown plants from animals
but you can also use any container
give a little water, this is pond water so a bit greenish, but you can also use regular water
then put them in a shaded place
after 2 months the result is like this
some seeds failed to grow, but this is enough
for the final container we recycle 15 L plastic bottle
cut the top but not all the way through so it can be opened and closed
and on the side make a lot of holes for aeration
you can also use any container
we use these containers because other than for recycling
it also protects from excess water when it rains
considering that chilies are prone to die if it gets too much water
the planting medium remains a mixture of soil and compost 1:1
then we move the plant to the large container
    also pluck the weeds
    this is after 11 weeks
we pick the first batch of flowers to give the opportunity to plant to grow bigger wait until it is at least 3 months old before we let the flowers grow into fruit
Jalapeño Pepper do not require pruning
because even without pruning the branches are many and lush
so remember, no need to trim
after 14 weeks many the of flowers have become fruit
and after 16 weeks the peppers are big
the color is purple-black, but this is only the part that is exposed to direct sunlight
while parts that is not exposed to the sun will be green
after 18 weeks some of the peppers have turned red
Jalapeno chilies are usually harvested when they are still green, not red
because it is exposed to intense sunlight, the green color becomes purple-black
if you want a full green color, you can grow them in the shade or in a green house
because this is our first time growing Jalapeno chilies, so we want to pick both
red and green, to compare the taste
so the black one isn't as hot as the red one, but the taste is more unique
the level of spiciness in our opinion is moderate
not in the hellish level, there are hotter cayenne pepper in the market
but fortunately, besides having lots of fruit, Jalapeno can continue to grow big for over 5 years
it's nice to have stock of fresh chillies all the time
