    This was one of the first things I did with my BRZ and I highly recommend it. I've been driving stick for about 10 years and when I first got my BRZ I could NOT get used to the clutch. Installed this spring and loved it.

    hey guys, thanks for the video! i ordered the spring the day the video was published, and it arrived today. before installing this spring, i wasnt sure if the wife would like driving this car even though she's driven manual a ton of times before- and i always apologized for how terrible my driving was when driving with passengers as well. the install was a breeze thanks to you (as much of a breeze as it could be), and those days of driving with the WhatTheHell-pedal are gone! thank you!

  • @64Alvis
    @64Alvis Před 4 lety +13

    I did it and it's great! The clutch on my new BRZ was inconsistent about where it bit, so you had to pay attention all the time. Even then sometimes it would bite sooner and you didn't have enough revs, sometimes later and you had too many revs, makes you look like a ham fisted driver. Now it's consistent and you don't have to think about it, just like it should be.

    Do NOT lose that pin holding the spring assembly, it’s even worse than losing the E-clip. I tapped mine and it flew in the bottomless void under the carpet and behind a bracket. Took 2 hours to find it and fish it out. When it gets caught at the end, PULL IT, DONT TAP IT out.

    This is how the pedal should feel from the factory. Pro tip, make sure you have extra zip ties, the ones they provided in my case we're brittle and immediately snapped.

    It's called free play! That space at top of clutch pedal. Only reason for spring is to keep people who ride with foot on clutch from burning clutch out because they drive with it partly engaged all the time.

    HELP. I have a 2003 GMC Sonoma Pickup. And like I've seen in other Reviews my Daughter won't drive the truck because the clutch is too hard to sue. The Clutch was replaced a few years ago. I see this MTEC Clutch Pring but I don't see it listed for a 2003 GMC Sonoma / or the Chevy S-10. Is there an MTEK cluch spirng for my truck? The only alternative I've seen on CZcams was a post mentioning adjusting the Clutch travel if it is hydraulic. My regular Mechanic said there is nothing he can do. I'm thinking of going to a Transmission Ship and posing the question to them. The clutch comes up hard and fast (lots of pressure to hold it partway up where the point of connection is).

    • @joshuaszeto
      @joshuaszeto Před 5 lety

      seriously, I was skeptical about how much difference it would make without the clutch spring but after I took it out, everything was better. There is no vague area when pressing the clutch. All the screw does is remove the slack at the top of the pedal travel. Trust me, take it out and see what it's like. also... once you have removed it, you will know what a goddamn nightmare it is to install it again so you won't even want to do this spring after. I also did this "mod" to my 18 wrx and that also made a world of difference.

      @@alexdavidge3167 i only did the spring delete. It's been over a year and half and so far no issues. And clutch engagement is a lot smoother since I can feel the bite point a lot better. I'm stumped, because I'm leaving gashes in the forks, but it doesnt look like it's being pushed out. To be fair, i do not have as long of a flathead as them, but the gashes indicate the head is slipping when I hit it.

      @@jackwicker Use a long flat head, like at least a foot long. The one I got was only like 8 inches for just the bolt and it still wasn't long enough to get enough distance from the dash to get good contact for the hammer to hit the end, if that makes sense. If the flat head were longer, it would have gotten me far better contact. Now, I unfortunately can't remember the rest, but I did get it off. I also piled old rags around all the gaps in the rug to keep the pieces from falling behind and it saved me a few times.
      Also, as someone said below, pull the pin out, dont tap. I tapped it and almost lost the thing forever.
