  • South-west of Bangkok, the suburban railway to Samut Songkhram runs through a market near the terminus. Traders move back their stalls as the train approaches und fold out the umbrellas immediately after the train has passed. Frequency of rail service is 8 trains per day.

I like the way that every stall appears to have it's own table on what look like railway wheels and rails so it all works rather well. Very good management of limited space.

Such a romantic story, look son, once me and your mother ate at Maeklong market, and the train was passing by, and we have a wonderful sight to the train's wheels

Makes sense. Why tie up valuable central real estate all day when the train only passes any given point inly a few seconds a day? Industrious people make things work.

Something similar here in Greece but hopefully, the traders completely block a huge length of the biggest street in every neighborhood side to side for 6 hours in weekdays and 7-8 in saturdays. No cars, motorcycles or even bicycles are allowed to get through when the market is on

I mean.. yes this is an amazing feat to do. But it is an absolute terrible standard to live by. Just because you can do it, doesn't mean you should be ok with doing it.
