    It's definitely my favorite EDC! You forget it's in your pocket! But I understand the expensive price tag for it.

    Anyone with a sound understanding of Total Quality principles as well as the need to meet a wide assortment of performance requirements would immediately recognize that the Hogue Deka is a FAR MORE SUPERIOR knife!! (and at a more affordable price).

    I don't have a strong opinion about the bugout either way.
    Spyderco was my first foray into pricier knives and pretty much "stole my heart".
    Even though I made fun of my friend when he showed me his Spyderco years ago.
    They're not pretty but they work.

    I have the Bugout Mini and I like it. Used to carry it daily and I even got micarta scales for it. But I had the omega springs break twice on me and they are an absolute pain te replace (especially one side). This gave me some trust issues but I shoukd seriously start carrying the knife more often.

    • @RockyMountainEDC
      @RockyMountainEDC  Před rokem +1

      I have had omega springs break on me as well. I replaced them with aftermarket springs and the aftermarket springs have appears to hold up much better than the factory ones that benchmade puts on there knives!
      Flytanium also make a great tool called the “pivot tool” for benchmade knives which allows you to keep the pivot (blade and liners) held together while you removes the scales , and makes it much easier to take out omega springs and replace news ones much easier

    I think most people (myself included) are aware of the knife not being for hard use. It’s the feeling of cheapness nobody likes. The CF elite version you have is a much better version than the standard grivory. Nobody wants something that feels delicate in their pockets everyday. I have nothing against polymer handles as long as they have liners or don’t flex super easily. I love the Bugout. Have the aluminum one & think it’s great

    You forgot to mention the problem with broken springs. At the selling price Benchmade should include an extra set of springs

    • @RockyMountainEDC
      @RockyMountainEDC  Před 7 měsíci +1

      That’s a good point ! 1st off they should make more durable springs and should provide extras, or atleast allow you to get new springs from them, they only replace broken springs if you send it in. That’s why I just get aftermarket replacements and install it myself

      A knife is not a fidget toy. If you actually have to open and close it several times an hour you're probably using the wrong tool for the job.
      You just can't blame the springs for misusing the knife.
      I personally break 1-2 pair of Victorinox scissor-springs/year because I use the scissors to process my pipe tobacco every day. This is not the intended use for them. Same with the BM ohm-springs. No metal as delicate as those springs should be stressed to the level of them breaking on you. If they are, they'll break..and it's your fault. It's simple physics, really. Take a paper clip, bend it back and forth rapidly. You will notice how it gets warm, then stiff..and snaps. Spring steel of course can take a lot more abuse than a paper clip, but will eventually snap if you stress it too much.
      No matter how much you WANT to drive your Ferrari across a potato field, you probably SHOULDN'T.
      ..at least not blame the car if it breaks while trying. 😊

    I just bought a bugout. I also looked at 4 different PM2's (S45VN/Camo G10) and every single one of them had noticeable up/down blade play. Does that mean I should hop on CZcams and make a video about how the PM2 sucks?

    • @HorsepowerHeaven
      @HorsepowerHeaven Před 5 měsíci

      Absolutely send me the link! Lmao I have two PM2s one for after work and one I kick the crap out of and leave in my work pants and take to the jobsite daily. Neither of mine have blade play. They are the g10 with s45vn blade variants. Weird cause I own a few other spydercos too like the delica and the native 5 and no blade play either. Acually all my axis locks have the slightest blade play side to side compared to everything else

    It’s cool with the cF scales or awt scales or something like that but yeah all that loot for a cheap ass scaled knife is kinda bs . Actually most of Benchmades prices are bs imho . I have a few and they’re not special for what they cost but have a great warranty so maybe paying for that . I compared the Knick offs to og and there’s very little difference . I wouldn’t even buy one of these used for fear a clone would come since so many people have learned the hard way and there’s a bunch of pricks doing that .

  • @AtomicBleach
    @AtomicBleach Před rokem +1

    The use case of the bugout is exactly in the name. Just a lightweight knife you can throw in your bugout kit and forget about. That said... With other knife companies spitting out their versions of axis lock knives everyday for sub $50 I think the bugout has a harder time proving it's worth.

    It’s nice, but at most it’s a $55 in Canadian dollars. Therefore it is not worth the hype. I personally checked one out and decided to just buy a real Benchmade. But I wasn’t hyped about it. If I’m spending $300 on a pocket knife all I feel is pressure to make it worth it. I’d be hyped to get one for free, because then I wouldn’t be thinking about how many hours I had to work to afford it. And how hard I have to use it to get my money’s worth out of it.

      Sadly that is true ! However people keep buying them because of hype built up around them for years. I think their knives are good knives, but they should be better for the price they ask. Most of there knives should be going for in the 100-200 dollar range, some maybe less.
