- The Yoshino is a fun and fairly solid ship for T10. Unlikely to see too much competitive gameplay, except perhaps in very niche setups, but in randoms she's viable and can be rewarding if you enjoy the kiting playstyle. You can find the build and armor model at the end.

I picked up Yoshino a little while back mainly because I liked the gimmick that she offered the 20km Shima torps on a cruiser and it def. doesn't hurt that Yoshino also has those beefy 12" battle cruiser main guns with high alpha damage, high fire chance, and really good range + accuracy. I dk about competitive games, but I mainly play ranked and randoms anyway and she has been really fun every time in randoms. If you're being overwhelmed by the enemy you can easily kite away while dropping up to 16 torps at a time (8 per side) that have that 20km range, and then you can continue to burn the enemy down with your super HE that does at least 5k+ DMG or more per salvo in addition to setting fires frequently. With her surface spotting range of under 12km you can also choose to just stop shooting if a BB is out trading you at range, and just go dark and reposition before opening fire on them again later.
I have def. enjoyed owning this ship and Flamu also forgot to mention her AA which is surprisingly very good as well at about a 90 rating. Since I'm usually kiting or sniping at range in this ship the chances are that I'll be harassed by an enemy CV's planes long before I run the risk of being near to any DD threats, so I decided to swap out hydro and I've instead taken the defensive AA consumable which has really helped her 90 AA rating to shine. Of course RNG plays a large role now in shooting down planes but I've had many moments now where I end up laughing out loud after I reinforce the sector, trigger def. AA, and then sit back as I literally witness her bring down entire squadrons of tier 8 and/or 10 planes in a matter of seconds, and sometimes I can even eliminate a full attacking squadron before they can even get their first drop off on me. CV captains still haven't caught on that the Yoshino actually has really good AA, so when/if they decide to try and harass you it usually only takes 2 attempts max before they decide to change target for the rest of the match because you just decimated their planes every time that they tried to attack you.
During the end game where you're willing to now close in a bit and capture up any of the remaining cap zones, that will be the only time where you risk being close enough for any enemy DDs to threaten you. Even then though, without hydro for these situations I still haven't really had any issues dealing with DDs in Yoshino whenever needed. As long as you or someone else on your team is able to reveal the DD at some point and keep them spotted, then you can unleash Yoshino's HE alpha and it only takes about 1-2 good salvos to destroy a weakened enemy DD in short order. All in all, Yoshino is a really fun ship especially for randoms where you can just kite around at range sucking up damage and launching annoying 20km torps at the enemy spawn to repeatedly troll them, so if you have the coal for her I would def. highly recommend this ship.

I pretty much agreed with everything you said in the video - decent random ship, not much use in competitive. Also when I played it I found propulsion 2 & rudder 3 to be more comfortable than rudder 2 & concealment. 13km isn't that bad considering the gun range and the proliferation of CVs, and the improved maneuverability helps with damage mitigation so so much.
I love the Yoshino, one of my favorite ships. I got 8 citadel hits in one game =D and those torps have saved me several times from being attacked from behind and has done mutual destruction upon german battleships, torping me to death as I torped him to death at point blank range.
Looks fun, I like burning things long range in Azuma. Problem I have with Azuma is it can't take a hit for anything, which leads to you not being able to carry.

Any ship with torpedoes will always attract me, Yoshino is one of them
The 4x4 Torpedoes may be nice, but it is still the Shima 20km torpedoes infamously spotted from the moon at 2.5km with a 12-15 second reaction time. The only thing you'll get out of those torps is areal denial at best. Yoshino is effectively a torpedo gimmicked pre-nerf Azuma (when she was T10, with the 30mm armour). The B-65 design concerning both Yoshino and Azuma was redesigned in response to countering Alaska Class.
I was hoping for the redesign version to be that of Yoshino, which had 2x3 356mm 45cal (Kongou guns) and an improve deck armour bumped from 125 to 155-158mm - to resist 1000kg AP bombs (rather than 800kg bombs) and be immune to its own shells and its target, Alaska shells.

I mean, weak armor, burn like a bb, clumsy, slow rotating turret with inconsistent ap. I'm starting to belive this ship is not worth the coal
its a long range HE spammer with decent concealment though and fits in the meta to a T. If you want a good ship that breaks meta... you're going to have a hard time finding one.
@@BillMcD Still have too many weakness and having "Decent" concealment and "good" he don't balance it. I Don't need a meta breaking ship but at least something that i can bring in a ranked/clan battle without be a sub-par choice
It's strengths are irrelevant due to those very weaknesses. "Great stealth" Pointless since you have to spam HE to do any damage in the thing and a DD will ruin that even if you tried to go dark. And HE spammers need agility to avoid counter attacks and its too clumsy and slow to dodge or armor to bounce the shells, neither of these can be done in this ship. While super unicums can make any ship look OP, it doesn't take much to imagine how bad it must be for one to simply call it "solid".
@@BillMcD People don't want to admit it, but deep down they really know Azuma, Yoshino are more appropriate to the Tier X Meta than Alaska or even the upcoming Georgia. Yoshino is a long ranged combatant that tosses harassment long range torpedoes as it does so. It fits the meta perfectly.

Potentially a way to make this ship see a bit more use in competitive play is to change the HE pen from 1/6 to 1/5, which gives it 60mm pen without IFHE, offering some teams an option to deal with kremlin.

The accuracy looked pretty good but the AP being questionable is a huge letdown... But is her accuracy the same as Azuma? Looked better. I do hope she gets a bit more buffed... Looked rather mediocre honestly
From what I've just seen on wowsgamemodels, Yoshino/Azuma's AP performance exceeds that of Alaska after 5km. Honestly I wish this to be a mistake (since Azuma should have initially better pen than Alaska - that loses in pen power after 5km - and have the worst pen across all 4 of the battlecruisers, for having the lightest 12inch AP shells).
For some reason Azuma's shells have better air drag values than both Stalingrad and Alaska which is likely to be the cause of that.
What better for coal tunderer or yoshino ?

HOW do you not having a aiming range reticle. You know the white line with numbers. I want to get rid of of it to clear up my aiming sight aswell.

What do you think of the viability of running double rudder mods? Sure, you lose 10% concealment, but the rudder shift should drop into the single digits? It's an alternate build I've seen with the Azuma. Seems useful since you'll be doing a lot of mid to long range shooting and kiting.
Also torp acceleration? The extra 5 knots, while still being able to fire outside of detection range, might make for more hits.

Would recommend to buff the turret traverse too. Not that there is anything wrong with that since the new Russian blyat class BBs are on the horizon.

You can't pen a Yamato/Musashi at above 7/8km so you can imagine how "good" her AP is..

I wouldn't trade out a Moskva for this in a CB, the radar is just to valuable to give up imo and if you drop the Moskva you pick up an Henri or DM, thb i feel they dont want to make battlecruisers more powerful then Stalingrad.

Flamu. Recently I start to run 20km torpedoes on Shimakaze just for fun. And you know, I easily break 100k damage. Sure if you want to delete a specific target 12 or 8 km torpedoes are better, but 20km will hit in almost every time.

That only really work on the shima beacuse it has 15 of them. By the time they travel 10ish km the narrow spread becomes so wide that 8 per side of the yoshino isn't really that great. In addition yoshino players are more likely to go pink because they underestimate just how far these torps go.

@@TenkaFubu Well Kronstad has its historical armor belt thickness and it is literally the only place where it has armor. Not to mention its extremely poor gun accuracy and the only thing really going for it is its high HP pool.
And it's still missing the 561 kg shell that was designed for the 310 mm gun , now it's using the fantasy 448,8 kg WG came up from their asses ...

I want to be honest here. I waited for this ship (still waiting), but i'm not that impressed. Wonky AA, wonky handling, wonky AP, (somewhat) wonky armor, wonky turret traverse... yeah the HE is good but... imho: not enough in the current meta. Torps wise... yeah it's 20km but very rng based. For T10 this is not that enough. imho

@@manfredinotarangelo5525 Random Number Generator. Basically everything that is decided by chance. It rolls a random number as an outcome for something. Though rng here kinda is used wrong since the torps are meh since high spot range and low speed

I think that even Azuma is better because she has special reload for heal and 1 more consumable... Alaska has the best armor, almost the same hp, better AP, radar... this ship is just a gimmick... a WG style for IJN ships, just put that they removed from original Azuma (30mm plating in deck and upper belt), put the original AA and add their torps... because WG loves IJN ships... Yoshino is a MEH ship as tier 10... just a long range HE and Torps spammer, looks like they want to kill their own game

@@jotasmail azuma gets citadeled from all angles from all battleship caliber guns the extra heal does not mitigate this disadvantage its sometihing you have to see to belive but it makes a huge difference to have an extra 5 mms of deck and side armor
@@D3monL3A1 I have azuma and if you know how to use her you can avoid to get cit playing "safe" but when you are focused and your hp decreases pretty fast having a short cooldow for your repair party is a HUGE advantage... Not to mention if you have an extra consumable. That's my point. 30mm can bounce some shells but is useless against long range hits and the most important... HE dmg

I disagree, the AP is more than strong enough to punch into cruisers, and does quite well against battleships' upper belt, and more than the accuracy to be able to hit specific portions of other larger vessels at medium to close range.
The hp of that ship got nerfed again? Wasn't it at 65k before? Damn, I got the Azuma, but I will definitely not get this ship. Getting my Jean Bart right now.
