  • We tend to think way outside the box. This is no exception. We installed vertical cellular shades as a closet door. In our humble opinion, it is more practical and we like the look.

    It isn't inexpensive as putting up curtains for closet doors, but we think it has a nice look and it is not much different from accordion doors, we figured.... why not? 😄

      We are tickled pink to hear you like our idea. To be honest, we enjoy ideas that require thinking outside the box and we really like your pull down shade idea... a lot. Being old and no longer very flexible, it would be tougher for me to pull a shade down to the floor but a motorized, Alexa compatible pull down shade sounds awesome. Thank you so very much for taking the time to watch our video and for leaving such a wonderful comment

    Ironically, I bet there is some multi-million dollar home that has an elaborate version of this idea for their doors. It looks great and gives your home unique feature.
    On a different note, I think you need to look at where your ads are being placed on your videos. They are playing sometimes when you are mid-sentence or at the last few seconds.

    Hi, wondering how it's holding up. Also, do you think it can take some abuse? Wondering if this concept could work and last for a kids game closet.

    • @Poor_Mans_DIY
      @Poor_Mans_DIY  Před 2 lety

      I had never thought about that but it is a real good question. After thinking about it, I realized the shades are actually made for Windows. If children are rough on window blinds, then they certainly can do damage to these being used as closet doors. That being said, the shades are holding up very well for us and we are super pleased that it worked out so well for us. I hope this helps answer your question. If you have more questions, please feel free to contact us.

    Thanks so much for this video. It’s a great idea. I would like to do it for my bedroom closet, which is 48 inches wide and 96 inches tall. How did you order it? Did you list the width as the height and the height as the width? I’m trying to understand how you Ended up getting the bracket at the top of the closet for what would’ve been the side of the shades

    • @Poor_Mans_DIY
      @Poor_Mans_DIY  Před 2 dny +1

      We purchased these as custom blinds. There were a few companies that custom make these to order. When placing the order, you provide measurements and if the shade will be inside the window sill or outside. Although we used it for a closet, we simply indicated it was for an inside curtain and they provided the proper hardware/brackets, to mount it in the closet.
      Thank you for the wonderful question

    • @Poor_Mans_DIY
      @Poor_Mans_DIY  Před rokem

      GREAT QUESTION!!! Off the top of my head, I can think of two possible solutions. 1 - purchase the shades at a length that will not reach the baseboard (only problem is the wide opening at the bottom. 2 - use vertical blinds and then cut the edge blinds to fit over the baseboard. We hope this helps but if you have more questions, please feel free to reach out to us and we will do our best to find a proper resolution. BTW, thank you so very much for watching our video and for your insightful question

    I need help, what does it mean left to right for the rail? I need it explained as I am new to this

    • @Poor_Mans_DIY
      @Poor_Mans_DIY  Před 10 měsíci

      It is taking about the direction your curtains open. left to right means the bulk of the curtain is on the left when the curtain is open. To close the curtain, you move from left to right. You can order curtains that open from right to left. I hope this helps. If you have additional questions, let me know and we will do our best to answer them.

      It has been a while but I believe it was around $200. Keep in mind, it depends on the quality of the curtain you order. There will certainly be some more expensive and some that may be cheaper. Thank you for watching our video. We appreciate it very much.

    Did you have to order a special pair of blinds that allowed for them to go sideways like this? I don’t see anything on the site that talks about it…

    • @Poor_Mans_DIY
      @Poor_Mans_DIY  Před rokem

      We did have to special order the blinds for the size but the blinds themselves are are just ordinary vertical blinds. they are designed for windows and sliding glass doors. we just used them for closet doors, instead. If you search blinds , use "Vertical Cellular Shades" or "Vertical Cellular Blinds" or "Vertical Blackout Shades", you will probably find many options. Thank you for watching our video and taking the time to leave a comment.

    I took off my closet doors and I need a solution to replace them . My problem is it's a basement apartment and I need something safe since the water heater is in this closet.

    • @Poor_Mans_DIY
      @Poor_Mans_DIY  Před 2 lety

      Just an idea off the top of my head, maybe plastic or vinyl vertical blinds can work. I have seen plenty of people use curtains as closet doors and curtains are intended for windows so why cant vertical blinds serve the same purpose. Plastic and vinyl should not be affected by the water heater. If your local big box store sells blinds, I am sure you can ask them about vertical blinds being safe to a heat source or not. We hope you find a resolution and hope to hear how things work out for you.

      @@Poor_Mans_DIY I have had issues with my bifold doors falling off vertically. I can't figure out what the problem is so I have looked for a solution. I'm tempted to just remove them and put up curtains. The rods are expensive for 6 to 8 feet and often begin to sag in places after use. My hack is to use copper plumbing pipe! In most cases it is less expensive, Never sags! The only trouble is I haven't figured out the end caps. I should probably ask a plumber. LOL!
