      @Jayiyagi why not taking the occasion to clear the fog about the LiiSong (US, Canada) being copies of LiiAudio China?

      @Jayiyagi  Před 3 měsíci

      @@nydavidfolch Hi. There is simply no fog. Just odd misunderstandings from people with unwarranted hate. A copy is companies like Musician that copies Denafrips and tries to hide it under the rug by telling reviewers not to compare it to Denafrips.
      LiiSong Canada is an extension of LiiSong.

      @Jayiyagi May I ask for a disclosure, that You as a reviewer receive or received no compensation for this review and also that you are no beneficiary of sales of these speakers?
      It is a bit suspicious straight at the beginning to say that these speakers you consider to be "the king/pinnacle/sensei of open baffle designs", whereas at the end You have compared them to Magnepans, which are no open baffle, and DYI GR-research speakers. What about the Tri-art, Spatial audio, Decware? What I am saying is that making such a statement a man has to have a lot of experience with different open baffle speaker designs. Or were you talking only about design, how they look and are built, and sound not included?
      And working with the company of final voicing is a clear bias (if not conscious then definitely unconscious).

      Hey Henrik. I confirm that I have not received any compensation, financial or product. I also confirm that MACO does not have an affiliate program and thus I do not get anything in return for traffic, sales or otherwise.
      I was provided 3 different tunings and I chose 1 with the designer after discussing which sounded best to us. I do not see any issue there… it isn’t like I had an active role other than lending my impressions.
      However if you still think that I was biased, it is what it is, everyone is biased to some degree knowingly or unknowingly and I make sure to disclose any bias I have freely so that the viewers are aware of my biases.

    I made some speakers with a totally open 5" single driver plus a woofer (that is in a bass reflex box).The 5" FR driver is on top of the box. I have a filter on the FR driver to stop bass excurtions. The treble is extended cos of the open driver and med range is the best I heard compared to anynother speaker I had! That's including my B&W 706 reference speakers that cost 2 grand. On my open driver speakers the med has exeptional control and sounds perfectly linear and not a single sour note. A sound I never heared before. I have a filter on the the open driver and a large inductor on the 6" woofer in a relatively large box. The woofer warms up the open med from the 5" driver, which has to match the bass output level with the right amount of warming. That's fun trying to achieve. I did it all with 5 crossover components all up. Theres 3 components on the open dtiver (a 2 mf cap and a 100mf cap and a 2 ohm resistor) and 2 components on the woofer (a 5.6 mh inductor and a 1 ohm resistor). I tried to get rid of the resistor but it was way too much bass. I also modified the open driver with cutaways and slits in the cone. This extends the reble and adds transient response. No whizzer cone and l want to build some phase plugs for it them (similar to the ones on the speakers in this video). My open cone speakers are by far the best speakers I made so far. Especially in the med range. It's med range I never heared before! The voice a is just so 3D and so there! So defined (without being over dominating or SHOUTY in any way)! And holographic off the scale! 😅

    These were at capital audio fest, I believe. They were really nice, the sound is good. I think like you said with bad recordings not coming through is a factor that someone must consider. The resolution or clarity wasn't beast. It definitely checks a lot of boxes, and is pleasant but should be heard prior to purchase in my personal opinion. I believe this is the cheapest speaker they produce, so it does definitely shine and have trickle down effects of the higher end speakers, if my memory serves me correct and it's the same product.

    Ever heard of Holfi amplifiers? Legend of last century. Amazing story. They were only build for audio, not for looking smart. They all had a wood panel in the front, with only 2 wooden rotary knob, one for volume and one for signal selection. Almost a classical Japanese design. They came with a 35 watts 70 watts and the top product, which used 6 motorcycle batteries as power. Incredible simple build with extremely short signal ways and over dimensioned transformer. They were absolute "the Reference" that they compared other amps too. They are very rare today, since they were a small company, but if you can find one, you can buy them fairly cheap today, since not many knows today what they are. Personaly got the smallest one 35 watts and it still have a 12kg weight. Needless to say they were never exhausted of lack of power in the transients. 35 watts still sounds like a 100 watts, transparent warm and silent. You own your self to hear them. They also build a High End Cd player, a phono preamp.

    I built a pair of OB with the exact drivers used here. Butcher block baffles and closely designed to the LiiAudio drawings. I used both the Lii crossover as well as bi amping with Rogue tube mono blocks full range to F15's and Crown XLS low passed to W15's. I also own Magnepan 3.7i's. I just sold the OB's for $700! The raw drivers sell for about $1000 a pair or slightly less. While I agree with much you said, I find the asking price for these to be absurd. Beautiful baffles and assuredly not cheap to make but! Word on the street is that the full range driver takes at least 100 hours to break in! Are these fully broken in? I have also heard from so many that a low powered, single ended tube amp is mandatory to get the best sound. All in all, I am glad I built them and while I lost close to $700 in material cost I had a blast building them and listening. My Maggies easily surpass them on multiple levels. I certainly heard the similarities in the two speakers and I am thoroughly intrigued with OB's. I will seeking out other OB speakers at AXPONA this year. I know that these drivers used in an OB configuration have almost a cult following and while I understand why I think the break in issue is a major problem and mandating a low power (Decware?) amp limits the potential of these speakers using these drivers.

    • @Jayiyagi
      @Jayiyagi  Před 3 měsíci

      Hey Tim, you may have used similar drivers but it is not possible that you used the same drivers since these drivers are not out in the market yet, please check the pinned comments. Also if you build diy speakers before then you know as well as I do that just because you used similar/same drivers, does not mean you have built something that sounds the same as the Macarias. Thanks for sharing about what you built tho!

    • @timball4892
      @timball4892 Před 3 měsíci +2

      The full range (F15) do have a different colour phase plug and the surround looks slightly different. I'll admit they could be different drivers but I can't even imagine what differences could justify the significantly higher price. But, as always, it is what the market will tolerate. I still have the question on break in and opinions on low power single ended tube amps. I'm just not buying the value proposition here. I''ll be at AXPONA and will assuredly take a look/listen. BTW, I am all about DIY as I have built 4 different CSS kits and find their value to be incredible! Very high quality drivers too. @@Jayiyagi

I’ve been an audio enthusiast for 62 years now And I also have frequented hundreds of concerts and jazz clubs over the course of my listening career. Maggie’s just don’t cut it to produce bass, not only in terms of frequency bottom end but totally necessary to hear the structure of the instruments like a AA bass without a quality subwoofer(s) in my music system. Everyone has their own taste and understanding of what satisfies them when listening to music. With all of my listening history this is my understanding of what the music and the individual instruments sound like in my three-dimensional space.
      This is only my opinion but I do disagree with yours.

    Nice but way overpriced. When you have a system for building speakers, it's just routine. Open baffles are just not priced what they were due to their increase in popularity. It's like solar energy and electric. Companies reap the benefits before the customer does. Their website is really commercial looking.

    I love how they don’t design a cabinet or worry about cubic feet and how it can effect sound and all of a sudden it’s cost is no object. They both have phase plugs, the top cone has what used to be called a whizzer cone. They were used in car auto speakers to save money rather than providing an actual tweeter. This is one of the biggest examples of ripping off the public consumer I’ve ever seen, and I’ve been around for almost 7 decades. The reason it disappears is because there’s nothing there. These will not be around in ten years. P.T. Barnum was right.
