A Perfect Day for Bananafish- Short Story

J.D. Salinger. 1948. In Florida, couple Muriel and Seymour Glass are on vacation. Muriel has a phone conversation with her worried mother who says Seymour is mentally unstable after returning from the war but Muriel insists he is fine and nothing will go wrong.
The scene later shifts to Sybil Carpenter and Mrs Carpenter, a small child and her mother on the beach. Sybil runs over to Seymour, who is relaxing on the sand. They talk then go in the water to look for Bananafish until Sybil's mother, briefly referred to as "the owner of the foot", calls from the shore for her to come out. The rest is history.
