As an Ollie fan I actually agree with Nico. He needs to prove himself against others in equal machinery. His debut was great, but you can't get into F1 on a standalone performance in a car that was better than majority of the field. He has missed out on 2 rounds which is unfortunate but I do believe he can bounce back

There are some key aspects here that needs to be taken into account.
      1. He had very little time to prepare
      2. The seat was not molded to his body
      3. His data was at times better than Leclerc's
      4. His neck gave in at the end of the race, but he kept his pace
      5. On the team radio and in the interviews after, he kept his cool, and didn't go "nuts" by any measure. He behaved like this was just another day at the job.
      6. He is 18 years old
Any team on the grid would be mad not to have his name on a short-list at this time.

Considering the circumstances, I think his debut was awesome and he didn't make any mistakes that other drivers made which was incredible. He did a good job but the overreaction has been ridiculous. Missed Q3. Was beaten by a Merc, Aston, and McLaren. Sainz and Leclerc have only been beaten by Red Bull. Finished third in F3. Hulk is simply being honest. F1's media and fans have humiliated themselves on this topic. They make it sound like Ollie won the race. It was impressive that he survived to the finish but he was clearly driving the second best car and he finished p7. To be fair to Hulk, there is a bit of a precedent for this. Super assured super-sub appearences which got the driver really hyped up and then when they were promoted to a full time drive they floundered. The ones that come to my mind are Nyck de Vries and Stoffel Vandoorne, though I'd argue that circumstances really hurt them both (and I'd also argue that Vandoorne was not as bad as his results made him look, more in 2017 than 2018 (the latter really wasn't a good year), but still).

Kevin feels a bit like Bottas right now, just doing the job and getting comfortable till he leaves and Niko has also the Sauber connection because of Audi but then theres also Sainz which is ofc a bigger and better bet with more future but a new team having experienced hands on both driver seems solid enough.

I think the older drivers are in top 5 problems with spectacle in F1. Hulk, KMag, Bottas, Danny Ric and the French duo know how to keep it on track and what fights to pick. Even Albon doesn't seem to push that Williams too hard.
They also know the top 5 are probably not interested in them (except for Ric). They just have nothing to fight for. The most stable cars in 10 years of F1 should give drivers more confidence to battle on track, yet for experienced drivers it means the result is predetermined and therefore fighting is an unnecessary risk. Say what you want about De Vries, Latifi or Mick, they did bring spectacle into races. Sometimes even affecting the WDC.

if F1 gave rookies/juniors say 1000kms of testing a year on the current car over a year privately you give every team extra, private testing time and gives rookies/juniors seat time. could be handy for teams to try and get younger reserve drivers and giving them more experience so if they do actually need to drive they know what to expect more to an extent. I know there are plenty of loopholes but I think that would also make reserves/ prospects more eyes so it's not just driver gulag.

Let's see a similar case named Sebastian Vettel. In 2006, Vettel was given FP1 appearance in Turkey and Monza for BMW after JV was sacked. At the time, he was competing for Formula 3 Euro title. He impressed in these FP1 sessions. However, allegedly this was a distraction for Vettel's title hopes for going back and forth between F1 and F3 machineries and eventually lost his championship to Paul di Resta. Fast forward to 2007, Vettel led Formula Renault 3.5 after 5 round. With Vettel's BMW substitution drive replacing injured Kubica, Red Bull had seen enough and put him to Toro Rosso seat. And the rest is history.
Now this brings me a question: If you've impressed enough after getting the chance in F1, would your result in junior categories matter anymore?

7:23 is an odd statement for me. I'm sorry but I completely disagree with the assertion that Formula 2 champions should be expected to make the step up to F1. This completely ignores so many factors including the strength of the field when they win, their age, and even luck they may have had. There are so many talented drivers and very few seats. Is the expectation that every year a driver should vacate their seat to give a young driver an opportunity?
Of course it took a while for Piastri, De Vries, and most F2 champions to get a job...there are so many talented drivers in the feeder series but also in other series like Super Formula, Indy / Indy Lights, etc.

I think Bearman only did a solid job. Would have finished 9th, maybe even 10th if it weren't for the safety car. No one was ever expecting him to beat Leclerc, but he was never even close.
He was in a Ferrari on softs and couldn't get by Tsunoda on hards early on in the race. He kept it out of the wall, but people saying he SHOULD get a seat next year is so crazy to me. These are the same people who thought Mick would be in a Ferrari one day. It took Mick until the final race of his second F2 season and poor driving from Ilott for Mick to win the F2 championship.

That is natural, but given that the sport is dominated by British media this viewpoint is difficult to avoid, and that is problematic because it limits the appeal of the sport in English-speaking areas outside the UK.
