Top RC Focke-Wulf Fw190 Fixing the up elevator

  • I found my Fw190 had problems generating enough lift from the elevator to climb. I was on full power most of the time just to keep it in the air. When the power died it dropped easily. The plane is 64g without the 11g battery, so heavier than my other Volantex/SonikRC offerings, and also this didn't help. It was windy too. But I wanted to fix this climb issue.
Firstly I tried to open up the U bend in the servo arm but this did not do much. Then I moved to the nearest hole of three on the servo horn to give more effect when moved. Finally I opened it up by removing the wing (undo screw first) and then moved the servo horn back one notch on the servo so it was by default slightly more upward (to climb). This did the trick.
It still has more oscillation than my Mustang and the tail seems twisted but it flies ok. I have seen another video and that seems twisted to. I'm leaving that for now although it is quite apparent.
I'm not sure if they will all need some attention or it was just mine. Good plane now after that simple fix.

Love flying these little planes. Not going to spend a lot more money just to stop a wobble that I can only see when I slow down the video lol. I can forgive the plane of that.

Yeah it's not my fav, in fact I gave it away in the end. Needs power to keep it in the air. P40 and P51 are great though, and also the Spitfire. Corsair and Zero cool too. If it has Volantex/Eachine/SonikRC on it then seems good.

Thanks for the info! For the record, mine came with a twisted tail too, very nose heavy also. On my second flight, fighting to keep it in the air, she cartwheeled into a grass field. The rear stem of the fuselage (just before the tail) was cracked. I glued it back, straightening out the twist but boy is she nose heavy. I used full power to keep it up for a minute before the power would die. Going to follow your instructions and I'm sure it will improve.

Ok so they all seem the same. I gave it away in the end to my mate who rescued it for me from a tree. He seems happy with it even though I warned him lol.

Just tonight I ordered one of these TOP RC Hobby FW-190 models. I've seen videos of them fly very nicely for other pilots. I cringe when hearing about your troubles. Hope I get a good one.

Yeah let me know. It is a heavy plane so doesn't compare as well to mine. It needs a lot of power. Lower power and it can tip stall easily especially in tight turns. That's what mine does. Hope you get a good one. Nice model though.

Nice flying in windy conditions, sometime if it oscillate too much it means too much gain on the Flight controller. Allthough its worse on a windy day as it fighting it. I can adjust my gain on my planes for the weather condition.

Ah that's good to know. I'd have to get a multi protocol transmitter to sort that then but to be fair it is the wind that does that and at normal speed you don't see it either. Cheers for the comment John.

@@Calvertfilm It not just the Transmitter, it the Flight Controller, these little thing are not adjustable.

@@124MPH Sure but I can't bring myself to spend tons more money just to stop a wobble that I can only see when the video is slowed down lol. I thoroughly love these 400mm series and so far have not got the urge to buy anything else. I enjoy flying these so much and that's what it is about. The other day I took the new guys outside to see my Mustang and they loved it, especially the manual stunts and then getting control back using the planes abilities.

Have you tested to see if the front/rear of the airplane balances at the center of gravity?

To be fair I haven't. I have 16 of these and I fly them out of the box. My larger Tasman I did check of course.
