Also, I understand that our country and health and education systems seriously lack in desperately needed support for such families (take a look at Sweden's support for families with disabled children) *but* parents are adults who have consciously chosen to bring a sentient being into the world knowing there are risks involved.

I don't know many parents who would comtemplate a murder-suicide but decided not to not because they love and accept their child but because of their normal child. She literally said that her autistic daughter's sister's life has more value than her autistic daughter's life.
No one is telling her that she's not allowed to be frustrated but she still is an awful parent. Especially if she really later does say that her daughter doesn't love her and her daughter then hugs her and says "I love you, Mommy!" and she tells her daughter to go away. Her demonizing and spreading lies about her own child, that's incredibly low.

I am not autistic. It makes me sick that there are people like this that exist. That's like my mother or father saying that the only reason that they didn't kill me (I was diagnosed with juvenile idiopathic arthritis at nine months old ) was because they had another normal child to take care of. My mother used to wake up every 4-6 hours to give me my medication. My mom barely got any sleep,. My father, mother, and older sister used to take turns carrying me because I couldn't walk. I feel so much sympathy for the disabled (I don't have mobility aids, but I was certified disabled at around 7-8 years old) children who grow up with parents like this.

Yes living with someone who has autism can be difficult. But that is no excuse to contemplate killing them. There's many disorders that are hard to live with. But their lives matter too. Do you think it's easy for my partner to handle my meltdowns caused by my bpd and ptsd? No. It's not always easy handling his caused by his autism. But I would never think of ways to hurt him because I'm frustrated. I help him. If someone said that to me I'd call social services. You should not be contemplating killing your children. If you are you need to check yourself into a psych ward.

Jeez, the dislikes... did the Autism speaks hategroup come out in force to dislike this video or something? It is true, Autism speaks is a hategroup. There is NOTHING wrong with Autistic people, their brains just work different/different layout. For every hardship, some things come easier. I mean you don't murder your child for the Terrible Twos either (all kids have hard moments, parenting isn't easy!). We seriously need to get adults on the spectrum involved with education/information regarding these things.. before we doze up kids to the eyeballs on drugs to make them "normal!" or put them away in institutions.
Sorry this just pressed my buttons, I'm glad my mother and father were not influenced by crap like Autism speaks!

it might be because people dislike the things being said and not the fact that its against autism speaks. or at least i really hope so.

@@technodragon990 I hope so as well, but I'm a bit worried sometimes how the Antivax movement is gaining ground and their ties to the autism hate groups. Heck, they use autism as a "scare tactic" for vaccines and do things like "bleach enemas" to cure it.
So I hope you are right as well... just I've gotten a bit jaded over the years.

This is so sad! She is like: "Oh, my daughter don't care about anything. She doesn't know about anything I do or say. She's not a human. So it's ok if she's dead." But the girl isn't deaf, she's hearing every word, and she doesn't demonstrate it but she understand every word. 😢😭😓

As an autistic person who was once a little autistic child, this video makes me feel physically sick. My mother was like this- she was abusive. Why would someone want to kill their own child? Maybe it’s not her child that “needs help” or “a cure” maybe it’s the mother that needs to see a medical professional for the sake of her mental health and the safety of her child.

From all the feedback about this documentary, I have no desire to watch it. I love my daughter with all my heart and have never once thought of killing her or abandoning her. We take it day by day and the more I learn about who she is the more I love her. She's only two and a half. I look forward to watching her blossom into the best person she can be.

They're an organization to help the victims of autism, i.e. self-pitying parents that think their kid doesn't have emotions because she can't mask well.

Sure, all people have ugly thoughts. Most people do not verbally express plans to kill another person. This mother did, in front of the person she had thought about killing. Doing such a thing is a crime.
"Assault is defined as "unlawful threat by word or act to do violence to a person, coupled with an apparent ability to do so."
And threat, in this context, refers to any verbal declaration which causes the victim to feel threatened.

wow, this is her: "Alison Singer is an autism advocate and the president of the Autism Science Foundation (ASF). She has also served on the IACC.[2] She was formerly an executive vice president of Autism Speaks and as a vice president at NBC." maybe you should edit your caption to note that she actually works with ASD folks, how is this even legal that she's out walking around? is there a way that she can be sued? fuck

The whole tone of this "documentary" is completely f'd up and beyond wrong. It's basically focusing on how hard life is for parents on autistic kids in this light of 'there's no way out and our kids are ruining our lives and the lives of their siblings."
As a parent to a wonderful autistic child, I'm so utterly disgusted by this clip and the rest of the clips I've seen of this "film." Autistic people aren't broken. The only reason it can be so hard to be a parent to a disabled person is because society isn't built to support us!!

The video was uploaded 15 years ago, so the child is more than old enough to understand the seriousness of what her mother said. I can only imagine the trauma this caused her, and if her mother publicly admits to homicidal fantasies about her, there’s 100% other abuse going on.
