  • First saltwater trip of the year where I go out on a private charter boat with Cape. Rob of Cape Cod Offshore charters. We were out targeting haddock, cod and acadian redfish. I Used a 16oz Norwegian jig and a 5/0 hook on a dropper loop 18" above the Norwegian jig with a 5" orange gulp grub. I did end up with my limit of cod, haddock, a few redfish and a decent cusk. At the end of the video I show how I prep and cook an acadian redfish. The redfish is an excellent flavored fish, in my opinion, needs very little to no seasoning. It is a simple and quick fry to get the fish nice and crunchy. Please like and subscribe!

I've been out haddock fishing out of Plymouth and Gloucester. Plymouth is a long ride out to the grounds, almost two hours each way. Gloucester was about an hour, but then again, we were only doing a 10-knot cruising speed to conserve fuel (I was aboard the Tuna Dot Com on one of his spring haddock charters). As a side note, when I go out for cod out of Rhode Island in the fall, that's an almost two-hours ride out to the grounds early in the season. Once November comes, they stay closer inshore at Block Island, as from November through April, the waters south of Block are a whale migration zone, restricting all vessels to 10 knots.

I always fillet them, I like that you add cooking, it's another dimension. Your recipe is simple but looks delicious.

I keep hearing about all these haddock but still those seem so small to me. Where are the vast shoals of four to eight pound haddock??

Great vid! Were you on the bank or on the sides? I want to catch some of those redfish. We're out of Scituate south of Boston. Stellwagen is 20 miles to the southwest corner and same to northwest corner. Thanks!

If I don’t want to go out to Stellwagen, will haddock be within the first 5 miles of shore in 100 foot depth?
I’d like to do haddock fishing, but don’t want to make the long trek to/from those popular fishing grounds. If there are haddock closer to the mainland, then it’ll be worth it to me. Thanks

They do sometimes come in close at those depth just outside of Scituate harbor I've heard.
