Excellent advice! I learned a lot. Funny! Two weeks ago, I downloaded about 10 paintings by the same artist, who excels at something I suck at - simplifying landscapes, choosing great compositions, and using color effectively in that genre. I love painting portraits and am more comfortable doing that than landscapes or floral paintings. I don't know if this is true, but I told my spouse that I feel like this will train my mind/hand to paint what I want to down the road in my own original compositions. So far, I've finished a couple and am very pleased. For the most part, I'm using good-quality watercolor paper sealed with either shellac or gesso, so I don't get hung up on the expense of painting so many of these exercises.
You have the clearest ideas and a voice that is so sincere and easy to listen to while you share your painting process. Thank you for sharing all of this
I also meant to comment about something you brought up in the video, I've been thinking about it all day and that's the concept of repertoire. The wider our repertoire, the more freedom and awareness we have to make appropriate choices for whatever we're doing. Thanks for this reflection, it's as important in art as in everything else creative and expressive
I am in my final semester as an online college instructor of early education courses, and I will retire in May. When I get overwhelmed or weary of working, I come to watch you paint and listen to your ideas about what you are doing in a painting, and why. You just make so much sense from both a visual standpoint, as well as a psychological perspective. I will be reaching out to see if I can work with you soon, but for now, you keep my eye on the painting journey I want to follow, and today's video speaks volumes to my inner artist, who is gearing up for ending one way of living and embarking on my true path. Thanks for all that you are doing.
Thank you, Chelsea. Another inspiring and beautifully expressed video. Question- do you have a favorite resource for the prints you use for master copies? Thank you!
Just wondering, what's your thoughts on artists such as Holbein,Rubens, Dobson, Gainsborough, Benjamin West, and colonial painters,Charles Wilson Peale, his son Rembrandt Peale,John Singleton Copley,John Trumbull, and Gilbert Stuart.Sometimes I think these artists don't get enough credit
Wonderful, Chelsea, thanks a lot💖
so wonderful, I love it ☺☺☺
Loved this video. I am going to do a copy of a master next.
Excellent point about deciding what it is that drew you in to the copy.
Great video, enjoyed the painting and the sharing of your views and ideas
I would love to see your filming setup. I'd also like to share my painting process, but I'm not sure how to arrange a proper setup with being able to paint next to a camera.
