22-250 vs 243 - Giant Clay Blocks - Zábava
The two loudest sounds in the world are a gun that that goes boom when its supposed to go click
and a gun that goes click when its supposed to go boom.
.....
Never thought of that 🤔
You have a good point there.
Man I laughed about this for an hour just wanted to say thanks for the laugh
My first rifle was a .243 and I’ve killed everything from rabbits and fox to deer and 300 pound hogs with it. And I now use a 22-250 and I’ve killed just as much. The only people I know that say they arnt big enough for deer are people who cannot shoot accurately enough to kill anything.
I have had similar results and would use either one
Very well said I love both these cartridges. I hunt with ruger mark 77. 243. And have never lost a deer placement is key. With any cartridge. The 22 250 is very good accurate round for white tail,,,also,,,
Poppa gave daddy and daddy gave to me?
Most of my hunting buddies tell me I should graduate to a larger caliber. They all use larger calibers like 30.06 and 7mm Mag, and call mine a pea-shooter. I sport a Weatherby .243 with Bausch & Lomb scope. It's the darnedest thing that they are always having to track their deer. Shoot mine right between the eyes every time and drop them right there on the spot.
I’ve killed many deer with both. They both work fine. I prefer a neck shot with the 22-250 but the .243 for some reason goes straight through without a tendency to actually break the neck almost as if you’re shooting FMJ’s or something. Cartridge I use now is actually 22-243. Sweetest gun I have.
Bought a .243 as a youth training gun. Finally broke it in last year on a 130 lb black bear. Anybody who thinks a .243 is inadequate for whitetail is mistaken.
I Agree
I remember when everyone was going 6.8 for ar15s thinkin why not just go .243 ar10 👍
Velocity wins faster flater farther
After shooting the clay, You should bake it in a kiln, then make a lamp, then sell it on line
The 22-250 did what it was suppose to and explode inside of the target instead of exiting so the target would get the full force.
I use 22-250 all the time for coyotes and my boy got his first deer this year with a 243
Awesome!!!
Back in 1955 when Winchester brought out the 243 they produced two loads a 80 Gr SP for varments, and a100 Gr SP for deer sized game. Those two Super x loads have been around for 67 years.
Bullet construction has gotten so good, that caliber is much less of an issue.
very true
The.243 made the block stick its tongue out a little farther! Its smile seemed a little wider, too! I think I would hunt with the .243. Good job, Adam!
243 was pretty wild!
@@WHOTEEWHO 243 is really a grear alternative to 223 rem for counter snipping in urban place ,, in lot of country Swat style commandos prefers 243 than 30i8 for one part of interventions.
hello great video. I would like you to do a video to compare the 7.5mm round to the 5.7mm round. This would be great if both could be fired from a pistol & a rifle, or long barrel. Great job keep on doing what you doing ! ! !
@@nieljames9844 .... What kind of comparison would that be? The 5.7 doesn't hold a candle to the 7.5.
@@Mike-gw9yt well that would be one great video
"My first rifle was a .243, papa gave daddy and daddy gave me" 😎
Have a friend who has taken at least 30 white tails with the 243. The accuracy allowed him to hit them all in the nap of the neck and all they did was drop in their tracks. He never had to track a wounded deer.
I always get excited about videos with .243. Never shot .22-250, but it looks like a great round too! Love the vids, WTW!
Once you use one you will never put it away
243 is so underappreciated. The 95gr ballistic tip is my go to load for whitetail.
Growing up learned to hunt with a 22-250, when I got good enough I got my dad's 243 , been my go to deer rifle since
Great job!...the only flinch on the empty chamber was your eye winking!❤️👍
I've shot varmints with both the 22-250 and 243 . For deer I've only used a 243 and it works well .
The .243 turned that clay into Gene Simmons!
😛😛😛
My Uncle hunted for many years with a 6 mm Remington then he couldn't find the bullets for it anymore so he went to a 22-250 and hunted deer for years with it it's all about shot placement I guess
Yup. 22-250 is a beast
It is I hunt with a 243. Both the 22 250. Are very good accurate cartridges. Its all about placement
I bow hunt. And kill deer. So yes. If you hit ,, the heart and lung erea and you'll usually bring your buck home,,,
Both are great for deer. Bullet construction makes a huge difference
I love my REM. BDL 243 and recently acquired a 22-250 and have not tried it out. This comparison was fantastic. It’s a great help to see your video. Thanks.
That V-max did exactly what it was designed to do. Dump all it's energy in a hurry! A core bond would have been a pass through, less expansion though.
Absolutely correct, the observed results are exactly as expected. A more robust bullet for the 250 would have exited as well
correct! I use the Hornady bullet in the Norma V-max round. Focus on expansion and ricochet reduction instead of penetration.
Vmax is a great boolit. I load them over Varget.
243 is popular down here in Florida with deer and hogs.
You are right.
The 22-250 is popular for deer to. I have known it to be used on hogs but not really bought for hunting them.
I like the 6mm remington a bit better. My wife has a running count of 9 deer all one shot stopes with it.
And I am up to 27 one shot stops on hogs and deer with it.
most places , it's popular in the UK aswell .
That 22 250 is a beautiful gun.. I've never used either one of these but was thinking about a 22 250 for coyotes
You wont be disappointed
.243 is the most versatile round 45gr 4200 fps all the way up to-105gr 2800 fps if you reload you don't need another round other than a .22mag in my opinion.
3006 is most versatile 12ga close second 243 might be 3rd
Gonna have to get a 243 someday when 243 ammo is available again, and let my boys enjoy a mild recoil high power.
Those clay blocks are amazing at showing the amount of energy that is transferred from these rounds.
A lot of fun
I agree. I like them better than ballistic gel.
He's got the front n back mix up on243 target .
A .243 Win. With a 100 grn. Bullet is a fine deer cartridge. I've hunted with one all my life.
I'm 52 and have taken many many deer, coyote and 7 Elk with a .243 ( though I'm very careful about range and shot placement on Elk. Not the best for them but it's what I have) great rifle round.
Mild recoiling. Just all around pleasant to shoot.
Gotta love the 243
Its always awesome to see how the clay deforms with different rounds. Its one thing to see what they do to animals/humans/ballistics gel - but the clay really paints a great picture for the pressure and force it imparts upon the target plus the density allows the rounds to work pretty good even if full expansion isnt achieved
Been using a 22-250 for over 30yrs on groundhogs. Very fast, flat shooting caliber. Made even better reloading for my 22-250 rifles. My all time fave caliber !
Nice
Love the .243 round.
I love them all!!!
the 243 slow mo must one of the coolest things I've seen, always wanted a BLR in 243 , never did get one though ,
Gotta love 243
I have used a Rem 700 .243 for deer hunting since the 70's. Always gets the job done and is also very good for groundhogs. Rifles have to be .23 cal or larger where I live for deer, so I have never owned a .22-250. Love your videos.
Nice is it wooden stock
@@mrhamsam243 Yes sir, it is a wooden stock ADL model. Put a Bushnell 3-9x on when I first got the rifle. Still on there and has always done well. Thanks for your reply!
Would this be Marxachusetts
.243 is a popular round for fallow deer in New Zealand. I use 95gr handloads travelling just under 3000fps. They work well. My load is almost identical to Fiocchi factory ammo.
I love fallow deer! Shot one last month
I know a lot of Hunter us 243. I got my son a 243 as a starter. He got his first Deer with A 243, 100 yard free hand, neck shot ,took 2 or 3 steps and dropped.
Yay! More clay block explosions! - first shot, looked like a grumpy face with a tongue sticking out lol
Second one was like dizzy Gillespie!
🤣🤣🤣
😆😆😆
Them 243 on whitetail are devastating! Out of a dozen I’ve never seen one run anywhere. I wouldn’t go any smaller for shots beyond 200 yards
👍👍🦌🦌🦌
243 is cool in its vast range of bullet weights making it a great candidate for an all in one rifle varmint to medium size game
For many years I utilized a varmint weight Ruger #1 in .22-250 for coyotes. Then as I got older, hunting calling solo, primarily @ night; traveling frequently from location to location I desired both a rifle and a shotgun. With all the loading and unloading each night I chose an H&R 12 gauge single shot and an H&R lightweight synthetic youth model shot .243 Win. . This way I can carry both to my stands. Then my g/f can use the .243 in deer season too. Its zeroed @ 75 yards.
@@rudygeorgiamulesandcountry1594 .243 takes mule deer down no problem too. 80gr barnes ttsx does wonders for being a lil guy

My H&R's are on the lightweight end of the range. I Have 2 heavyweight 10 gauges that go over 11 # each.
Many guys use shotguns here, especially when running dogs.
Hey! Good Luck.
Fun video! Yup, I've shot both deer and prairie dogs with a .243 as well as both deer and prairie dogs with a 22-250. The bullets you used weren't apples to apples because they were each designed with specific performance goals. I'm sure you know that, though. I prefer the 22-250 for rock chucks and prairie dogs over the 243. I prefer the .243 for deer. Heavier bullets for the deer are a good thing. But, in the end, I'd do it with either one for shooting either one, as long as I had the proper bullet for each purpose.
I’ve never shot a 22-250 but I’ve killed a lot of deer with the 100 grain 243 it’s my pick can’t beat it
I love em both
Been killing deer since the early 80's with 55gr. 22-250.

That was so cool in slow motion how the 243 had the clay came out in the round part came out the front. Great video like always keep them coming. Again I enjoy watching your video very much please keep them coming
I don't have a 22-250. But I've got many coyotes and wild hogs with my .243, best round I've found for it was a Federal 85 grain boat tail hollow point, and apparently they stopped making them because I haven't been able to find any for several years. I wish they'd put them back in production because that's my favorite round for the .243...
I’ve dropped deer in their tracks with my 243 shooting 100gr Hornady interlock
Popular caribou round up here too
Sweet
Most of the deer and antelope I took in Wyoming were with the 243. It punches above it weight class.
Lots of hunters have dropped deer in their tracks. I have with a .50 caliber muzzleloader, .308, .22-250, .270, 6.5x55. So exactly what's your point?
I use the same thing for my 243
I've taken deer with both the 22-250 and the 243. As long as you have good shot placement they are DRT
Just stay away from the shoulder with the 22-250, unless you are using a Nosler partition or Barnes x designed for deer.
Shot placement is always the most important factor.
I use nosier partition bullets in my daughters 22 250 rifle it works OK for deer. The 243 is a much more capable round for deer
Don’t you have a friend that’ll let you use one of his 270 or 30-06? You must feel out of place on those hunts. Kinda like showing up at a funeral in shorts and seeing all the other men in suits
Dead Right There.....for those who don't know what DRT means
This never gets old! I love the face they make when getting hit!
That was fun! I bought my wife a Remington 783 .243 cal for Christmas last year. We have yet to break it in due to my health issues. Looking forward to shooting it now.
Thanks for sharing with us!
Thanks for watching Scott!
Bought that same gun for my daughter. She Killed a deer last two years. Nice shooting gun.
I have a Remington 700 in .243 win. The deer I have shot with it usually go down within 40 yards or so. Interestingly I have never had any bullets go through a deer. All were broadside shots except one. Bullets were 100 grain Hornady.
I bought a new 243 for deer season I just finished up with and fired 3 rounds and killed 3 deer. I had a cull buck stick his head and neck around a tree to look my direction and dropped him with a neck shot at 105 yards. I shot two does in the shoulder at about 60 yards and they piled up right where they stood. I was a little hesitant about the 243, but being left handed, I didn't have any options. As the saying goes... proofs in the pudding!
This is great! I've used both of these calibers while living in north eastern Montana. 22-250turns prairie dogs into red vapor and 243 WILL put down mule deer with good bullets and shot placement.
I love em both. Thanks for watching Ken
243 is a very underestimated round gotta love it
I sure would like to have a 243 so I would have a small rifle, I'd put a bumper sticker on the stock that says my other rifle is a 7.62 x 54. It is true that I have a .22, but a 243 would be cool.
@@marcp1180 I have one it's a Savage axis and it shoots great they are definitely worth it

The Weatherby Vanguard is one of the best quality/cost rifles on the market.
I’ve had both rifles and still have a 22-250 that I use exclusively for Cyotes and it has done a spectacular job and has for years. The .243 worked equally as well on Cyotes, I just preferred the 250 because of a little less recoil.
I like the 243, just my choice. 😁
Thank you for compairing the 22-250 verses the 243 love them both.
Well now that was a interesting video and I think 243 definitely showed a little bit more mojo on that clay and 243 would be my favorite.

.243 is my go to whitetail round. Federal premium Barnes 80 grain tsx has never let me down.
I believe i used 93 grain sierra for my mule deer and it knocked him down. 243 is absolutely one of the best deer rifles, id never go with a 308 over the 242
40 years ago I tried it with a 25 Liters water filled metal can and a 22-250 (BSA Heavy Barrel rifle) on several hand loaded ammo.
More shots confirmed bullet not to exit but disintegrated inside the rest of the can (exploded).
Naturally best result with a 53 grs HPBT Hornady bullet and a semi-critical load of Nobel ICI n. 0

Awesome. I need to take mine hunting
22-250 works great on 🦌 it’s all my dad ever used for a lot of years.
Those Hornady 55 grain v max bullets are devastating, love em!

I am so jealous of your gun collection! You’ve got great taste.
243 what wins are on performance and looks... well kept beautiful rifle
😍😍😍
Both are awesome rifle. I always loved shooting my uncles Weatherby 22 / 260
His neighbor had a .243
We would shoot 2 liters out at 300 yards and explode them.
243 is Wicked! Hydrostatic Shock Will take down Any Deer or Elk! I Hunted Many years with a 243 and not 1 deer got away!
Just out of curiosity and I am not criticizing your comment...... How many elk have you shot and killed with the .243? And how many elk never got away that you did shoot? I have a .243 but I would be hesitant to use that caliber for elk or even deer in that part of the country where elk primarily live....the west and the far north. The animals are just so much bigger and stronger out there. Even with proper shot placement, a well made 100 grain 6mm caliber bullet like a nosler partition bullet is not going to be as effective as say a good 140 to 160 grain bullet in 7mm, like the 7mm-08 or the 7mm Remington magnum. I have used my 7mm Remington magnum on elk, mule deer, texas whitetail, texas exotics, and big feral hogs. No animals have ever gotten away. Unfortunately I have lost some texas whitetail deer and some feral hogs when I used my .243 that I shot at ranges beyond 200 yards. The .243 is a great varmint round at long ranges. It is also a great deer round at medium ranges in my opinion. But I personally would never shoot an elk with a .243, but that is just me. The shot placement would have to be near perfect every time in order for the animal to not get away and/or suffer before expiring.
Either one works some 243 like 80 gr. some 100. For deer accuracy is king.
Absolutely
I don't know much but I know I love 243, and that may be all I need to know.. LOL
I love them all!
I don't know much but I thank that may be a song from the late 80s early 90s 😂🤣

I looove 243 too. With Federal or geco 105 grs bullets (its a mini express mix 12 gauge (2 1/2") up 243 down
I actually use the 55 grain Hornady V-max in my 22-250, and it is my understanding that this (being a varmint round) is designed to splinter or shatter on impact, rather than just mushroom and pass right through the animal. I'm certainly no expert, but it is my understanding that they are specifically designed this way to create massive damage inside the game, without damaging the pelt with a huge exit wound. That leaves you with just a "pin hole" entry wound if you are hunting an animal for its pelt... such as a coyote. This is the first time I've ever seen such a clear demonstration of how effective that design actually is-the block of clay illustrates it perfectly. Thank you.
Have shot deer with most popular calibers . For the last 10 years have used 22-250 mostly shot many deer and only one took a step he only went about ten yards . That's shooting behind the shoulder. Lately been using 55 grain fusion by federal.. work excellent.
Use my .243 with IMR 4350 & 75 gr VMax's on woodchucks. I let them live another day if less than 100 yrds. Anything else becomes "ground chuck" if I do my part. Handloading really brings out the "fantastic" of this cartridge.
The smallest rifle I've personally shot a deer with was my 25-06 but I've quite a few friends who've successfully used the. 223/5.56. The 22-250 got a lot more boiler room than a .223. It should do pretty well IMHO.
I love the 2506 too
It does have more boiler room. But at the standard 14 twist not as good with heavier bullets for larger game.
I deer hunt with a 22-250 savage axis and I dropped a doe from 100 yards with a 55 grain core-lock and dude it obliviated her lungs

I've killed deer with both. 22-250 I always tried neck shots, and they drop. 243 is great little deer round especially for youth starting out. Either way I like both!!
On your 22-250 make certain to use the 60 grain Nosler Partitions. Trust me in this!!!
I have some for deer hunting
@@WHOTEEWHO being 100% serious here....I personally witnessed a guy use a 22-250 Nosler Partition 60 grain on a cow elk at just over 150 yearns. It went through BOTH lungs and exited!!!!! It is an amazing round and it good enough for me even the largest whitetail deer. I have killed several pigs here in south Texas with my 22-250 and I have over twenty boxes of the Nosler Partitions in my safe in reserve. It makes the 22-250 easily outclass the .243 due to its’ speed and accuracy. If it were the only gun I had and a record book elk was within 200 or so yards I would not hesitate to use it on a high neck shot or to shoot for a double lung!!!!!
This is about to be a really fun video.
I enjoy these videos man, nice work.
Appreciate you watching!
WTW the man who kills clay pots before they're even born. HaHa. You've got me hooked on these clay block challenges.

I am a 22-250 fan
It’s all about that shot placement
The first time I hit my hard steel 3/8" thick target I was amazed. Nasty!
Love the 243. My dad has one in 700 remington classic. It has killed lots of deer. My best was 250 yards with a range finder. Loud but no recoil.
Good job. Your clay blocks really show good drama. Remember the .243 is a necked down .308. The .308 is the M14 caliber. Which I carried and loved. .The .243 is a little lite for the mule deer here in Colorado. However the .243 will do the job. Very good demo.
I killed my first deer, at age 11, with a .243.
Thank you for the comparison video, these cartridges are unknown to me, but they have surprised performance, good.
I hope you will make more comparisons videos and please little more about the history and development of each cartridge., thank you again.
Took 2 does with a .243 this year (2020) I have no complaints using it for deer, hogs, or varmints. Great video.
Back about 60 years ago my Dad had a 243 and he shot 60 gr. hp at about 4000 fps and he burned out the barrel in a thousand rounds but he would blow a medium size ground hog in half at 75 yards or blow a crow apart at 100 yds.
That Hornady V-Max is a bad-ass bullet. Lots of energy expended inside that piece of clay. Can't say anything bad about the 243. Great calibre Bad-ass as well.
It’s probably already been said but it would be cool to use same type of bullets with the calibers. I’d imagine a soft point in the 22-250 would have passed through same as the soft point 243. The vmax exploded on impact as it’s meant to do.
My grandad always deer hunted with the 22-250. Every time i went with him and he shot one, it always dropped them dead in there tracks. But he always went for the neck shot. Ive only seen him miss once. That was when a doe was about 10 yards from the stand and constantly snorting at us. He missed the first shot. It ran off and came back around behind us 20 minutes later about the same distance and non stop snorted again. The stand was built on old telephone poles so we were way up, but he took another shot and missed again. This time the doe never even ran so he finally just got mad at that old doe and threw a beer at her before she ran off. But i was always impressed with that 22-250. He used it for coyotes, turkey, everything. Never had a problem with it.
Great comparison video. Thanks for ya hard work.
Thanks for watching Scott
Where I live the question of which to use for deer hunting is answered by the wildlife department. The smallest diameter bullet we can use for big game hunting is .24 cal. which is a shame because every 22-250 I have ever seen can shoot the eyes out of the deer at distance.
You have proven to me that the 243 is quite the amazing round. Great video.
