    You were totally right! We just finally started using this fryer that we got in 2017. We have used it less than a year and tonight it caught fire!!! We clean this thing all the time because we also noticed the leaking grease. I'm so glad we were in the kitchen, could have burned our house down.

    I'm glad I came across this. My machine is months old. I do wipe out the interior after every use. It's just my nervous way around electricity. Even a threat of fire terrifies me ...I just know I could not get out or save my fur babies. I'll be checking my fryer tomorrow best I can. Thank you !

    I have the Power XL 3.5 quart. I just viewed your video and checked out my machine as you demonstrated. NO PROBLEMS. NO RESIDUE OIL ANYWHERE. I've had my machine 8 months. If I use oil, I use only a light spray.

    You got a faulty machine. I’ve used oil in mine and I haven’t seen any oil inside my machine. They manufacture these things so quickly that a bad one could get passed by and into a consumer’s hands. It’s such an excellent machine and I’m so sorry you had to be the one to get it.

  • @ilovefunnyamv2nd
    @ilovefunnyamv2nd Před 5 lety +11

    Well your concerns have been addressed, they include a notice about a fire hazard, and some legal jargon that implies the simple act of owning the device makes you at fault and unable to class action against them for fire damage etc. In case anyone is curious, that is not a legally binding contract because you did not sign your name to crap. If this does catch fire, sue!

      I have the Power XL 5.5 qt. also. The inside of mine is like new. I don't add oils. If I need a little EVOO I spritz it on the food before putting it in but that is very seldom. Never had leaks but thank you for bringing it to my attention. I will keep a watch out if I start finding anything in the bottom of it.

  • @6942pjka
    @6942pjka Před 6 lety +1

    I’ve been using mine now for a year and never had an issue but I fillled the basket with water to see if it would leak and it did! I tightened the screws as best I could and now it’s much bettter with a slight trickle out of one screw hole. There’s never any liquid that goes past those first set of holes, so I’m not really worried too much, plus I don’t really use much oil to begin with. I’ve cooked a whole chicken in there two times, and never had a problem with smoking, even with all the fat that drips below.

    Just some random tip: Different cooking oils have different "Smoke Points" or the temperatures that they will catch smoke! As such, cold-pressed oils and unrefined oils (very low smoke points), such as cold-pressed coconut oil and unrefined rapeseed oil etc., should never be used to brush or spray onto meats that are going to be cooked in an air fryer (the same goes for convention oven). Doing this will result in the oils turning into smoke and if temperature is high enough will catch fire!
    A list of "Smoke Points" of some cooking oils is here: shorturl.at/ayMY7

    • @Lemoneyedcat
      @Lemoneyedcat Před 4 lety +3

      This is true but you just can't expect everyone to know this.What people should know is never walk away from any appliance that is cooking food without turning it off first and keep a kiddie
      fire extinguisher and smoke alarm in your kitchen for all types of kitchen fires.

  • @michaelhitchcock9255
    @michaelhitchcock9255 Před 6 lety +5

    The manufacturer warns of smoking and fire hazard if any oil, other than pure olive oil, is used. It also warns against putting any oil in the basket. You may spray the food with oil or brush/rub on a very tiny amount of olive oil, but you don't use oil at all for many foods. I have the large unit he is talking about and have never had any issues when following the included use and cooking guide which specifies the cooking temp to be used with each type of food, and it isn't always 400. The whole point of an air fryer is to fry without oil for most recipes but get results similar to frying with oil.

  • @robertchumney7846
    @robertchumney7846 Před 6 lety +2

    From this review I have to let you know one critical part you mentioned. You said you put "olive oil on your asparagus", that is the problem. This is an "air fryer" meaning you don't need any oils the cook your food with, it uses super heated "air".

    • @yukonstriker1703
      @yukonstriker1703 Před 3 lety

  • @alanwilson216
    @alanwilson216 Před 6 lety +6

    The first time I used my Power Air Fryer XL I used chicken, didn't add any oil, my house was completely filled with smoke in a few minuets, and there is oil leaking from the bottom of the unit, I took it apart and the inside of the walls of the case was soaked with oil. I cleaned it out and reassembled it again, but I will never fry chicken in there again. I regularly wipe the bottom off because of oil dripping out. I wish I had never bought it. About all I use it for now is french fries. I really can't imagine that much water leaking around those screws, it's more like you may have a hairline crack in the pan somewhere.

    • @alanwilson216
      @alanwilson216 Před 6 lety

      Have you ever cooked a chicken in a rotisserie? What a mess of oil all over the inside of the rotisserie. All I am saying is that I put chicken with skin in my fryer xl, no oil added just salt and seasonings. It smoked like crazy and I am still wiping oil off the bottom of the unit. I'll never cook chicken with skin in it again. Even when I cook in on my NuWave cooker, I have to clean the cover of all the spattered oil off it, but at least it didn't fill the house with smoke.

      @@allisonkang3249 YES!!! 100% You do NOT Put oil on your food in the air fryer! No need for it. It is an "Air" fryer. If you put oil in the other fryer, its
      not a true air fryer. It specifically tells you in the manual do Not use oil or butter and do Not overfill or machine may smoke. Follow directions and maybe try use the settings you're supposed to. That is why the machine has those preset buttons. Each button is set to the time and temperature that coincides with each type of food. I've had my Power Air Fryer XL for 2 years now and I cook almost everything in it. Everything comes out Amazing! Never add any oils or fats at all. I make chicken, hamburgers, steak, pork chops, roast, fish, vegetables, potatoes, pizza, garlic bread, fried ravioli, anything frozen premade like pizza rolls, egg rolls, mozzarella sticks, onion rings, fries, tater tots, fish sticks, pot pies, pepper poppers, ect. I use my air fryer every day! In place of the oven & microwave.

Also we Never leave the unit unattended while cooking. When we use any oils to help crisp foods we “spray mist” oil, never pour it over.

    You shouldn't be soaking that, because it will eventually begin to rust! All you need to do is wipe it down with a soft "NON-ABRASIVE" cloth. I cook a lot more grease yielding food in mine. I NEVER soak it in water, but I do use a degreaser spray (very little), with a soft cloth. Before putting it away I will use a disinfectant spray, and lastly I will take a spray bottle of hot water and spray it down to remove all chemicals. NEVER EVER SOAK IT! It's also important to completely dry it.

    I don't wish to be a killjoy but I'm pretty sure that every air fryer on the market tells you to clean it after use.
    The other side of the argument - how the hell are you getting oil pooling there? How much oil are you using?

  • @leslieslass

    take the screw out and fold a very small piece of foil over and over flat just a little bit wider then the head of the screw and screw the screw throught the foil without ripping it. its a homemade washer but it acts like a crush washer and seals good (still not saying this is okay for the company to not adress) but you can fix it yourself easy! :) see the problem is the head of the screws aren't wide enough to cover the hole completely when tightened they made the holes too big but its so little its almost impossible to notice to the naked eye and the water gets through because of it or oil

    I don't think its the screws. You're not supposed to put a lot of oil in there anyway. But oil POPS when its really hot, like how it pops out of a hot pan. That's probably what's going on. Its popping out. You're only supposed to use very little oil in air fryers. That's the whole point. Its an AIR frying, not a OIL fryer. it's meant to be an alternative for people who do NOT want to have deep fried food. They want it AIR "fried" instead.
    Some people use a little of that non stick spray.
    Put your olive oil in a plastic bottle and spray it on the food once or twice. Again, very little oil.
    Look at some other CZcams videos of air fryers. See how other people use them. No one uses grease. It's NOT a deep fryer. its an AIR fryer.
    Look at a few other CZcams videos. I think you are using it wrong, especially if you are talking about filling it up like that. It shouldn't be filled up at all. In fact, not even 2% of that should be in the bucket. Like 1 tablespoon max (coated over your food). Maybe not even that much.

      +MessengerOfTruth it occurs to me that you didn't watch the video. I coat my veggies and fish with olive oil, not grease, prior to putting them in the air fryer.
      I had zero issues with my Farberware air fryer except the basket was too small, the power air fryer is just a bad product.

      I think you've shown where the problem at 1:40, especially if you "Throw it in" (assuming with cup of oil). I know your smaller frier does not smoke - you've just been lucky. Why is it leaking? Its the accumulated oil from the persistent abuse.

    I purchased one of these back in 2017 when they first came out The smoking is no joke Just using the cookbook recipe for fried chicken Within 5 minutes I just happen to look towards the kitchen and the Airfryer was smoking like crazy The company that made these should have revealed that natural juices from meat,seafood etc when it drips the bottom part of the fryer is so hot all you get is smoke Had mine a month and sent it back Never heard from them It's 2020 and my sister just purchased one for me for Christmas Maybe they've improved on it since then but I'm cautious about using it Anyone have the latest version

    The XL should NEVER have liquids placed in it!
