  • This wired ribbon bow tutorial shows how to make a Christmas tree topper bow (or just a DIY big bow) using a Bowdabra bow maker. This type of bow is great for any Christmas decor, including doors, staircases, gifts or presents, large wreaths, garlands, and even outdoor Christmas decor such as lampposts, mailboxes, or house columns.
I do go slowly for this Bowdabra tutorial for people that have never used one before.
    Supplies used:
    Bowdabra
Bowdabra wire - cut 24 inches
    Scissors
    Pipecleaner (optional)
Wired ribbon - I used 2 different ribbons that were 2 1/2 inches wide each. Total of ribbon used was 414 inches or 11.5 yards. If you wanted to make the bow with just one type of ribbon, you'll need 2 rolls of 10 yard ribbon.
    Breakdown of ribbon used:
203 inches of each ribbon was for the loops. I made 6 inch loops, and a total of 18 loops for the bow (9 of each ribbon)
49 inches of each ribbon for the 24 inch streamers. if you want longer streamers, don't forget to add in the extra inches to make up for the loss behind the bow loops.
The finished bow will measure about 12 inches across the loops, and 30 inches from the top of the loops to the bottom of the streamers.
    Peacock ribbon is from papermart.com
    Gold ribbon is from Amazon.com

Thanks for sharing this. I got a Bowdabra for Christmas and enjoy seeing how other people use theirs. Very pretty big bow. The math with how much ribbon to use was very helpful. I know I have run short when I only bought one roll in the past.

Thank you Sherry! It does seem to be a bit of a gray area when figuring out how much ribbon will be needed. I did my best with trying to explain what I've figured out so far of things I've calculated wrong myself previously. There just seems to be so much more math involved than you would think! Lol
