- Nil wind launches are extremely difficult especially with a wet wing. Here are some tips and tricks to help you with a nail wind or no wind inflation/launch. What happens if you don’t turn around and kite the wing down? You can possibly be pulled back by the wing and turtle.

Hey Sean, one thing that my old instructor (Andy McAvin) taught me that you didn't mention and it seems to work pretty well...... if you get yourself into position first, then aim the prop-wash up and over the wing and do a good sustained run-up while stationary, you can get off the throttle quickly, let the motor go back to idle, and begin your run/pull while there is still a significant amount of air moving horizontally above the wing.... Once you get it off the ground that little bit of still-moving-air can make a difference. He taught me this with both of us using fairly flexible fiberglass-hoop miniplane cages so you don't really want to overdo the powerforward (too much risk of cage flex). Anyway.... just something for you to try/consider...
Yes. We teach that technique. It works great. I have a Skytap Angel and the frame does not flex and I can take off with a full power like a trike

So when taking off, do you have to run against the wing or in the direction of the wing?
We run into the wind with the wing behind us inflating the wing as it comes up over our head as we are still moving forward on a no wind launch
A general question, I know that you trained using a flat top frame, my question is do you feel that style of frame is helpful for beginners or not so much?
I think that it definitely helps a new student not break equipment and keeping the cost of repair down during that learning curve… I continue to use my Skytop Angel which is an upgraded version of the flat top
Thanks for your answer. I can only speak for myself, but I would feel more confident as a student knowing I had a stronger cage behind me.

at 4:06 not sure how that landing is perfect since he actually landed on his butt lol. Also, this LZ is not a great place to learn. Obviously, it gets the job done but man, lots of obstacles for a beginner pilot.
