    Dude the key of a minor is tonic in c major. The six chord is a min. Truly 1,4, and 5 chords are always major amd 2,3,6,7 are always min. No matter what key. But for anyone interested if someone says a song is in any minor key more than likely referring to the relative min 6 chord. Also known as aeolian. To find the tonic count up1 and 1/2 steps to know the tonic key or also known as ionian the 1 chord.

    just from a playing by ear perspective, this doesn't sound like a 4-1 progression. it could be argued that this is a 4-3-6 progression. not only from the sound, but the construction of the chords here. the first is clearly a 4 (F maj 9 ) chord, then 3 (E min7 with a major 3rd), and then 6 (A min 9 chord). which would put us in C major (key) or A minor

    • @joebustos6413
      @joebustos6413 Před 4 měsíci

      Yep, a minor is the sixth chord of c major. In key of c major a 4,5,1 is all major chords in c they will be Fmj, Gmj,and tonic Cmj.

      He's in the key of A minor but made it seem like he was in A major at the beginning. He doesn't use regular music theory rules though. I believe these tips are mostly for DAW beat makers who don't play piano.

  • @Wicjones
    @Wicjones Před rokem +1

    So i'm working on learning more theory and I thought that the number system was always referring to the major scale? So the relative major scale would be C Major and this progression would actually be considered a 2-6 progression, no? Which is still confusing since the 6/vi chord in the major is usually diminished... Just trying to make some sense of all the info. Dope tutorial!
    Edit: the 7th chord is diminished - so this would just be a 2-6 progression, no?

    • @ivansoto9723
      @ivansoto9723 Před rokem

      The 7th chord in the major scale is considered diminished, not the 6th

    • @lisawillis8044
      @lisawillis8044 Před 8 měsíci +2

      It's a 3-6 chord progression really G. The way he's numbering the Minor scale is weird to me too, but i guess it explains why the numbering for a lot of progressions on youtube never made sense to me

    • @LawrinMaxwellsmpc500
      @LawrinMaxwellsmpc500 Před 2 měsíci

      @@lisawillis8044it's how guys who don't play piano use the number system so they can click in the notes and make major or minor etc. chords. They aren't using the same music theory and number system that most musicians use. I believe this is a formula for laying down chords in a DAW.

    You are in the key of A minor and your chords are: Dmin7, E7, Amin7, Emin7, Amin7 (iv, V7, i, iii, i)
    Now my question is where are the 2-5-1 chords you talked about? 4:38

    • @LawrinMaxwellsmpc500
      @LawrinMaxwellsmpc500 Před 2 měsíci

      Great analysis. I suspect he doesn't use regular music theory, and is confused on the actual key and the number system.

  • @spray006
    @spray006 Před 8 měsíci +2

    it would really help to know what KEY these chords are from...... If you think of music as a Language, you have to be speaking the same KEY like English or Japanese.... If we are going to make music, we have to start on the same KEY. Example, if we are going to speak in the Key of English and I start saying words like "Ko Niche Wa".... I am speaking words from the Key of Japanese.....and not English.... Notes, Chords and Scales have to be from a KEY.... If you just start talking notes and chords, it will not make any sense if we don't know what KEY we are speaking in.... When you say the 1 note is a Minor.... In what KEY is a 1 note a Minor? What scale are you talking about? A 1 note is usually the Root..... the Root can be a Minor Root, but from what KEY? The Language or Key we speak with will tell us what Notes, Chords and Scales we have available to us to make a Conversation or Song...
