Part 2 coming soon! What other song breakdowns would you like to see?
Tom Misch songs / Mac Ayres songs. Champions of neo soul atm! :)
Ok I'm back! How about Say Yes by Floetry?
Euphonic 7 - Then Came You (feat. Kevin Yost).
When I’m with you performed by Tony Terry
Sir ..... I'm looking for a miracle as performed by shelea
5 years ago, when I first started studying audio production, and music theory, I would've had a headache, for days, trying to understand what was explained. Today, I understand almost everything that was explained. PROGRESS!
Right there with you. Decided to take college courses to really get an understanding of this stuff. A year ago this video wouldve sounded like a foreign language but now I get it.
Self taught, but the worst part is when you're learning rules then as you're progressing you start learning how a lot of these rules are broken and become "a guideline" instead of a rule 😂 😂 gotta love music
know exactly what u mean!
Great job.
@@mangalisomdingi9733 That is so true.
This is incredible. Please do a D'Angelo series. The world needs more stank in the bank. You legend.
AGREED!
Second that!! We need more D'Angelo breakdowns!!!
Third dat, but keep doing you, I'm sure we'll get knowledge we didn't think we needed
I need more for the stank bank.
big facts
D'Angelo's Voodoo album was quite possibly the greatest Neo-Soul album ever.
I heard thats the album that began neo-soul
@@pootiepojo779 correct
Very true !
@@pootiepojo779 Naw, that was Brown Sugar, D'angelo's 1995 debut before Voodoo
I'm studying classical theory and learning about how to write musical phrases and cadences. It's fascinating how modern music can ignore those rules and innovate upon them to sound amazing. Amazing vid.
3:02 Jeff predicted Kayne West’s song “I Love It”
good catch
Dale I knew I was crazy lol
i noticed that too lol
lmao
Or SZA's Love Galore
I'm so hyped for the next part.
All I have to say is thank you. So much information in an easily digest format. Really appreciate you help the community grow and myself as a musician progress in my own expressions
I've watched too many youtubers telling about progression and chords.
Your way of teaching is best of all.
Sir please Need more lesson on r&b music. 🙏
Loving this Jeff.A very well put together video, lots of info and great fun .You are a legend.
Fantastic break down mate, definitely do more videos like this. Really useful and educational overall.
I really like the extra visuals you are doing now Jeff, for basic level music theory people like me it goes a long way in understanding. Thanks.
That was great! Concise explanations, great editing (really!) - super entertaining and educational. Thanks!
man! your channel is gold!
I love these videos! And your loop of the day! Don’t ever stop‼️
As a producing this musician, who a never truly went deep with Music theory these videos provided a amazing source of inspiration. I feel like I’m getting bite-size pieces of theory that helps me grow as a musician and a producer thank you so much for what you do!🙏🏾‼️
Thank you, Robert!
Super entertaining video, super clear explanation of chord progression - I'm your new fan
Finally finally after years the D'Angelo' s chords. I beg you make more chords progression about the legend D'Angelo's. Thanks for this.
As usual you've presented an excellent analysis. Thank you for sharing
Thank you for this video! It was helpful and informative. The way you broke the theory down made total sense!
Loved this a lot. Helped me understand how to explain this well to others!
Great editing and pacing! I’ld say it was fast enough for those here who already know some music theory to not get bored, yet slow enough for those who don’t to understand why it works. And I’m guessing most of your viewers responded they prefer shorter videos in your recent poll, hence a wise decision to make it a two-parter instead of making one long video! Either way I’m hooked for part 2!!
Yeah!!! Those who don't know this stuff yet got some new terminology to search google and youtube for more info and those who know just know a little more hehe!
Thanks so much! Really means a lot
As a young child that song (Roberta's version was very popular on the radio) is one of the first ones that really caught my ear in terms of an "unusual" chord progression. Of course I didn't know what non-diatonic harmony and tritone subs were at the time but I appreciate you presenting it now that I do.
a tutorial like this is just what I've been looking for. Thanks man!
Nice lesson. That secondary dominant turned into a tritone substitution was something totally new to me. I'll have to try that out on a new beat soon.
This is easily my favorite piano/chord theory channel. Cheers Jeff.
dude epic tutorial! clear simple concise. Touching upon the advanced concepts in a very approachable way! Thanks bro subbed
Jeff! Loved your channel when i found it a year or two back. Came back from a few months off of not watching your videos. Just gotta say, keep it up! Love the layouts and even brief humor sprinkled :)
Loved it. Beautiful progression.
I actually think your voice is great! This video was just what I needed, I am trying to write a song with this vibe exactly right now.
Excelente explanation man. Great job , I feel I learn more on CZcams with amazing musicians than actual university, keep up the good work .

You are really easy to learn from! GOLDEN QUALITY!!!
Paying homage right off the bat. This is how you become a CZcams star. Still a great channel
Great content man! 👏🏼 Learning a lot
This is incredible. Thank you!
Thank you for this video. You totally make the theory easy to understand
REALLY loved this whole thing, Jeff. PLEEEAAASE keep it up with these song breakdowns. Also, you’ve got a nice voice, not a problem there ;)

Your channel is exactly what I needed to get back to my music
Very educational! Amazing example of how music analysis should be taught out there ! Thanks Jeff!
An online course about harmony like this, approaching each subject with some songs .. damn, would be awesome !
I'm learning so much from this, thanks!
Jeff sincerely from the heart you’re AWESOME!! Thank You!!
Really like this new editing style!
Dope breakdown ! 🤟
What an insane explanation. One of the best music theory teachers on youtube
Thanks man, this is really great.
Love this album so much. Great choice.
One of my favs :)
Nerded out and picked it up on LP. :)
This is very good. Thank you very much!
“Tritone substitution” blew my mind. Great explanation!
Glad it was helpful!
YEEESSSS!!!!! My favourite D'Angelo track foreva
great tutorial!! thanks for the video
Yeah this video is top notch. Thanks!
please by all means more song breakdowns ! it's so helpful :)
Good explanation of the theory and whatnot. Good pacing. There is some good stuff to be learned here.
I always called 13sus chords Imaj7/II, but since it's a II - V - I, 13sus is what it is really. And the A = 445Hz is what makes the song, man! Good video!
Dude you are a nerd about the piano
And it's never looked more badass. Rock on pimpin
i saw to be continued and was bummed. great stuff tho can't wait for the second part!
Bomb break down Jeff.
Epiphany! Great lesson. New progression reminds me of the chord sequences used in some of the TV themes written by Mike Post. P.S. Excellent production in your videos; much better than most. Thanks!
Great teacher!
Thanks Jeff! Amazing
Very well explained!
Is it bad that I upvote these videos before I even watch them? 😁
I haven't thought about chord pro. that hard since music theory 38 years ago. Excellent by the way. Thank you.
Please breakdown some Robert Glasper Experiment chords
Raymond Owens-Bey yes!
@jeff_schneider YEESSSSSSS
Great work
Never Looked at the C7 (flat five) as a tritone substitution
Being self taught learning can be slow
Learned most of Donny's stuff many years ago
still love it (especially Stevie's You Are My Love)
Great lesson
Thanks
Sounds killer! Vocals rocking too!
You got a great voice, Jeff!
great editing bro.
Ive been struggling making sense of modern music theory but this helped make some things click. Thanks!
So glad to hear that, Danté!
Like button "smashed" ;). Good work, Jeff. And, man, nice singing!!!
You really picked a chord master for this one
Thanks for this video!
Found my new favorite channel :)
Give this guy a recording deal...😆 good video mate, thanks.
very interessting video Jeff
Your editing is fun :)
Great voice bro God bless you
Thanks. Need more RnB videos!
Hey Jeff, can you do some Moonchild tutorials please?
Jai Holmes 🙏🏾
Heck yeah Moonchild or some Hiatus Kaiyote
Jared Wentrick YES!!!!
MOOOOONCHILLLLDD!!!!!!!😢😢😢😢😢😢❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😍😍😍😍😍😍🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩
Runaway!!!
Hey I love your videos, I just started getting into piano again and you've really helped reinspire my playing.
One thing I think would help a lot in the interest of learning is if you included a PDF or screen with all of the chords on it at the end. I find myself skipping through your video to try to practice them all which isn't very efficient. This is not a criticism, you're a great teacher and obviously very knowledgeable.
Great video! Just came from my music theory lecture where I explained secondary dominants to them. Didn't touch tritone subs yet.. they're not ready for that!
It's good to hear someone sings almost as well as I do :)
Love your tutorials! Something I'd like to see is why you would use particular extensions beyond the 7? I never managed to figure out how those function.
Thanks for explaining this . I really want to make an R & B song .
Now I can make it .
Another good one Jeff. Looking forward to Part 2. Don't underestimate those pipes either dog.
Cool video bro 😎👌
I like this so much
You shouldn't be so self concious about your singing! Also thanks for another helpful and engaging video Jeff
Thanks man! ...music is the bridge...
Cool and humorous well done
