    5 years ago, when I first started studying audio production, and music theory, I would've had a headache, for days, trying to understand what was explained. Today, I understand almost everything that was explained. PROGRESS!

      Right there with you. Decided to take college courses to really get an understanding of this stuff. A year ago this video wouldve sounded like a foreign language but now I get it.

      Self taught, but the worst part is when you're learning rules then as you're progressing you start learning how a lot of these rules are broken and become "a guideline" instead of a rule 😂 😂 gotta love music

    Great editing and pacing! I’ld say it was fast enough for those here who already know some music theory to not get bored, yet slow enough for those who don’t to understand why it works. And I’m guessing most of your viewers responded they prefer shorter videos in your recent poll, hence a wise decision to make it a two-parter instead of making one long video! Either way I’m hooked for part 2!!

    As a young child that song (Roberta's version was very popular on the radio) is one of the first ones that really caught my ear in terms of an "unusual" chord progression. Of course I didn't know what non-diatonic harmony and tritone subs were at the time but I appreciate you presenting it now that I do.

    Nice lesson. That secondary dominant turned into a tritone substitution was something totally new to me. I'll have to try that out on a new beat soon.
    This is easily my favorite piano/chord theory channel. Cheers Jeff.

    I always called 13sus chords Imaj7/II, but since it's a II - V - I, 13sus is what it is really. And the A = 445Hz is what makes the song, man! Good video!

    Never Looked at the C7 (flat five) as a tritone substitution
    Being self taught learning can be slow
    Learned most of Donny's stuff many years ago
    still love it (especially Stevie's You Are My Love)

    Hey I love your videos, I just started getting into piano again and you've really helped reinspire my playing.
    One thing I think would help a lot in the interest of learning is if you included a PDF or screen with all of the chords on it at the end. I find myself skipping through your video to try to practice them all which isn't very efficient. This is not a criticism, you're a great teacher and obviously very knowledgeable.
