    Everquest had great Legendary Weapons called "Epic Weapons" that required a lot of work and a huge questline to get. I felt like GW2 took that idea and made it better. ;-)

      I was around back in the Everquest days as well, and I definitely remember that. The game offered one BIS type "epic" weapon for each class, and obtaining it required a number of difficult and very time-consuming tasks. You definitely had the respect of other players if you had the epic weapon for your class. But the endgame eventually progressed beyond that to an instanced-based "Plane of Time" (which only the very top guilds could gain access to), and the Plane of Time gear was then superior to everything else, including the epic weapons. Fond memories of that game!

    I'd give props to Everquest and their epic weapons. They were unique to each class, and some had such solid utility that they remained relevant for several expansions regardless of stat power creep. They also eventually did Epic Weapons 2.0 down the road, due to previously mentioned stat power creep, around the time I stopped playing. You had to trek all over the world to do specific encounters and get the drops for your stuff. The appearances were generally pretty great, and it was just a really cool thing to aim for. The Berserker class came out shortly before or at the same time as the planned 2.0 launch, I don't remember, but the big bad raid boss you had to fight for their weapon was this sea serpent looking dragon out in the water. The entire raid needed to slam alcoholic beverages to raise their tolerance leading up to the raid in order to mitigate a crippling intoxication debuff that would just black out your screen and stun you for SEVERAL seconds. Good times! :D
    Class-specific may be too large of an ask for Ashes with all the combos, but archetypal would still be cool!

    I agree with you Narc. I remember it taking 8 months to make my legendary in GW2. I also liked how the legendary scaled with you, so it wasn't wasted as you leveled. Being that 1 in 5000 person who grinded for it was cool. The legendary weapon also looked cool. I remember when I had to earn my blue and purple items in Vanilla WoW. I would love in AOC took the raiding from WOW, the story telling from FF14, the crafting system from Eve Online, and the legendary weapons and sieges from GW2. If they could pull that off this game would rock. I remember priests earning the legendary Benediction in Vanilla WoW.

    One of the nicest updates to GW2 legendaries is the QoL that was added, that they could be any of the top tier stat combinations, ending having to have an armory to change builds.

    I Invision the Legendary Items being of two types, dropped and crafted. This item tier is next to the top tier you can get which is Unique Legendary. The Legendary Crafted item should be a higher tier than just a Legendary Drop due to the time, material, and money invested. However since all three are Legendary, I see the stats only being separated by one or two points or by one more boosted stat in the case of the Unique.

    • @TheToledoTrumpton
      @TheToledoTrumpton Před 2 lety +1

      I think the first thing to say is that epic gear needs to be epic and much rarer. If I was making a system, using the WoW colors, I would make green-blue the standard for general end game participation, with possibly even a few white pieces when you first hit endgame. If your reward system is gear, why make your life harder and just hand out purples, and progress to 5/6ths through the system before you even start. Green should be the standard starting point with a rare blue every now and again.
      When it comes to Legendries, I think they should be rare. There should be a limit on how many there are, once a certain number of a legendary drop, it should not be possible to get more of them. Second their benefits should all be mechanic or % based, so they retain their value through expansions. Finally, I think they should be skill based, but you shouldn't be able to play specifically to get a legendary.
      So a crafter may have an incredibly rare chance to craft a legendary instead of an epic, after he has crafted (x) epic items of the same type. Say a single use schematic drops.
      A player may get a chance at a legendary drop on future kills, after they have killed the same endgame boss (x) times.
      If you want you could combine some of these. So once you have crafted so many epic items, a legendary has a rare chance of dropping from a certain boss.
      I also think that it would be worth it to build a system that creates legendary quests that are variable from server to server. Say, a body of 100+ very difficult riddle or puzzle, or crypto clues, where you have to solve a random 5 or 6 of them, different for everyone, to receive the legendary item, or trigger a chance at a drop from a boss. Once, a number of legendries have dropped from the quest, it should just drop an epic.

    TO be fair, GW2 legendary system offers a bit more than just cosmetic. You can select any stats you want and change them at your will. You can change any runes/sigil or enhancement infusion attached to them without having to use a third party item or straight up destroying the item. In other words, someone with a full legendary set will saves up a tons of money by not having to recraft another weapon with another stats, rebuy/recraft sigil/runes/infusion and the person will always be able to use all stats available in the game without changing anything (you can be a DPS for one encounter and once you out of combat, you switch to a healer gear and becomes a healer for the next encounter. It happens rarely but this is an option).
    Having legendaries in GW2 increases your QoL by a lot on the long run.

There were some class specific weapons that people would try to get even after they weren't necessarily best in slot because of their abilities and usefulness. I like the idea of crafters needing legendary material to craft a legendary component needed to forge or make the legendary gear. That way different types of high level crafters will be needed and sought out. Would make it more difficult to acquire end game legendary gear really quickly as legendary materials may have extremely rare spawns in far and away places, raids, or both.

    FF leggos are more or less expansion-long weapon constructions project for players to sink time into, rather than rare gear for the elite of the elite to show off in town. Recent expacs also dedicate entire suites of content for constructing them. (Which IMO is pretty cool.) Once completed they're more powerful than any other weapon in their expansion, BUT by the time you can finish one the most serious raiders have long cleared the last raid tier, so they're just overpowered weapons for players who have done the grind to have fun with when the expansion is sunsetting.

    When you say boss dropped crafting materials they won't so much drop as require a sufficiently skilled harvester to harvest them from the boss. Then a sufficiently skilled processor to turn it into a material a crafter can use etc, and thus is the hope for a meaningful deep crafting system.

  • @keith4776
    @keith4776 Před 2 lety +1

    So your DDO video got me thinking about well.. D&D and the issue with gear actually relates. In D&D 4th edition they tied stats closely to hit chance in combat, long story short if your a 4th level player then you will basically never hit a 9th level monster. Well what this created was a scenario where the GM would have to constantly feed gear to the players or they would simply be unable to continue progressing. In 5th edition however, they reverted back to traditional combat where hit chance varied very little based on level. So a 4th level player could certainly hit a 9th level monster, the monster would generally laugh at the player but you could hit them and a party through simply action economy could take a larger monster down. This creates a scenario where the GM only gives gear that has meaning. So when you get the goblin slayer sword at level 2, and your still using it at level 10. It has meaning to your character and to the story.

  • @JohnAPrescott
    @JohnAPrescott Před 2 lety

    Legendary should be VERY hard to get...I wanted them to do a archetype quest starting at level 10 and you continue till level cap. It's archetype specific, on par with top tier, but it's yours, and very hard to complete. An item is valued more earned than given.

    You mentioned that the tier syetm of old should have meaning again.
    I dont think it can have meaning, if everyone has access to that same legendary gear....its cant be legendary (its typically simply the OP flavour of the month).
    So for me, enforced rarity is as much a part of the quality tier system as flying mounts.
    Thats not to say you can not have a wide variety of legendary gear, thats matched to equally unique builds.
    But it is to say, you cant have a meta, if players cant duplicate builds.
    If there is only 10 of a particular type of legendary, but a 1000 unique types of legendary, you can enforce class seperation out of the desire for high tier gear access.
    Thus, parallel progression systems as a means of differentiation, where you are forced to choose alternate paths of development progress (specialisation), is a requirement to enable that.
    Then you throw in the need for equally rare and specialised legendary crafters, with required legendary equipment/attire.....

    Despite the fact that GW2 has an excellent way of making legendary weapons, you can SELL the first generation in the trading post and imho anything "legendary" should not be able to be simply sold. In 2015 Anet added collections for precursors and few months later they gave up of these collections because they took so many time and effort from devs. I really think also that legendary items should not drop from a mob in any game, you should get some hard and expensive materials through different contents and use to craft.

    In regards to FFXIV, that depends on what you’d call a “legendary weapon”. If it’s the ones that drop/get obtained through Eden 12 Savage, then yes. Those are extremely difficult to obtain mostly because the skill necessary on top of having a good team is hard to come by. If they’re Resistance weapons, they take a long time to make but they aren’t difficult.

  • @jeremyn4397
    @jeremyn4397 Před 2 lety

    The Legendary weapons in FFXIV are only cosmetic. Since FFXIV uses a verticle progression system, any gear you get will eventually be replaced by something better (stat wise) in the next expansion. However, the Ultimate weapons will always be extreamly difficult to get, there are only currently 3 ultimate fights and they are all gear capped fights that can't be cheesed. It took my raid group several months to beat just one of these fights. Its all about the glam baby!

    As cool and slick as FFXIV's Legendary Gear looks, that's really all they're good for: cosmetic. Unless they've changed how those work, as far as I can remember, they're not worth the time, and effort to obtain them. There's no bonus to stats, no set bonuses for wearing an entire set, no interesting or special traits/abilities/buffs for using them; they're just bland for the most part. Now, FFXI on the other hand, their Legendary Gear was beneficial, and had worthwhile stats and boons for one's respective job, that kept them viable.
    FFXIV has nothing like that, as far as I know, at least. And with all the work one would put in to get those gear pieces, or sets, or weapons; they wouldn't be worth using anymore after the next batch of new dungeon content came out increasing the item level. It's a steep vertical progression, no horizontal at all; so basically you'd use them just for the glamour, which I suppose for most in the game, is good enough.

    What really worries me about this game is that they'll take the route of most modern day mmos making the world so safe and easy to the point that it's just not interesting.

    alternative world, to sink in, don't mean it must be focus on pvp, and for some reason some people don't get it. Story is not world too BTW. And in my opinion when everybody can craft legendary weapon... is not legendary is hard to craft, because everybody could if only have resources. But I agree that common, uncommon, rare, epic, legendary (unique, mystic, etc) lost they value, maybe games should put less different in them, and make them harder to obtain, but it would mean that to be good player you may use common and few rare and be good player, and people with time, skills, and will would get better gear. And IMHO Guild Wars 2 is bad, because you force players to do what they don't want, better would be to be best/one of best to get gear from pvp + some activity next to it (guild pvp and be good at 1vs1), but not pve and crafting with pvp... give different gear for each, so others would know how you get.

      and if you don't want direct drop, then legendary component with is required to craft, but creator don't have to be person which have this drop, but some best crafter (NPC would required some effort and money to make it for you etc)

      Oh, one nice system which would make crafters/gatherers welcome in party, is that bosses would not drop crafting materials, you have to extract it, and to have any chance for good one, you need investment in this tree.

    I love your videos keep it up with AoC content. All your previous videos before new world came out are also very unique. Your style of making content is unique.
    I just have 1 opinion on how I have seen things and experienced that always gets a little on the people's nerves is that when you try to promote some product dont downplay other people's products.
    Once in a while it's okay to knock other products down but almost every video that has come out after new world it has always been a beating towards it and co pared to ashes. Few times is okay but to me it just gets a little annoying seeing it over and over again.
    Many of your fans might think this hut don't dare say it and many of them will roast me in my comments because of my opinion as well, but as a fan of your content I just have to say what I feel because that's what your channel has always been about.
    Thankyou for making AoC content and keep making more.

      yeah this is something I'm 100% struggling with... Branching out by keeping my core values intact is going to be challening... I'm hoping I can fix this issue with my new series as I'll be touching on ALOT of MMOs i've ever played before... but... we'll see

    Altough i agree with the Guild Wars 2 legendary system, it should be noted you can buy them for €60 if you buy gold. This is not the case in FFXIV

    4:10 Ok so thats not really true, you see, the thing with Guild Wars 2s legendary weapons is, that you can buy them with gold on the auction house and you can buy gold with gems in their official store and you can buy gems with real money. Granted, if you go from a price of 2k gold for one legendary greatsword wich is what I remember it would be around 112$ but that still completly invalidates the "You have to master all the ascpects of the Game to get one" thing.
    You could also buy the two precursor weapons and do the remaining grind since that would be alot cheaper(at least it was when I played, one of my guildmates did it this way) since that would still safe you alot of grinding

      you can buy only generation 1 legendaries to. Since you craft them mainly for cosmetics , if you want a generation 2 , you need to do all by yourself. Note: only looser buy legendaries from TP :D

    I can't wait till this releases.....then fails after 3 months so the genre can stop trying to make mmo's focused on world pvp and get back to what a mmo is supposed to be.
