- Legendary Items will be key for people looking to have a competitive edge in both PvE and PvP as this is the top tier of gear in Ashes of Creation. There will be some legendary gear drops but most will be obtained through the crafting & Artisan system. In this video, I'll explain how world bosses and dungeons will help you obtain the legendary materials you need to craft the gear and how this may all work. There are also legendary mounts in the game that will be exclusive and rare and gained through certain paths throughout the game.

I like how GW2 does it, where its a lot of work to get that legendary, and it only gives you a small stat bump, but gives you the freedom to change the stats on it and can be traded between your other characters. So essentially making it a family item that you have worked hard to get and will never fall off even after new stuff comes out. Its really annoying how games make you work hard for the best gear, only to be useless a few months later and have to do the whole process again.
@@orangedragon4713 yep,i really hope legendary items will have animation and looks good like in gw 2,i dont care how will get them i just want they need looks good :D
@@orangedragon4713 I never really got into the crafting on gw2 apart from speed levelling the cooking as it was good xp. I have heard some decent stuff around it though. I know that Steven has said "The fact there is only one of them... or very very few of them depending on what it is. I think that in and of itself is a balance component right and you need to make sure that the players who are striving for those legendary things and who are devoting the time energy, and resources in order to achieve them are accurately rewarded... " so i imagine that they will stay relevant as time goes along, however i'm not sure if they will stay relevant after new dlcs but in my opinion that just gives you something else to do when a new dlc comes out. High-level crafters will be able to assign different skills/abilities and stats on gear so there are some similarities in that regard.
@@Vujkan they have said that you will be able to tell items are legendary just by their appearance so I imagine they will look just as impressive.
I love the philosophy of having legendary gear not be 200% stronger but 6-12% with some interesting ability or something. It makes things to where it can be really rare and you don't have to have it to be powerful in the game. It just has to look really cool and iconic even.
Yeah I totally agree in the direction they have gone with the legendary items. It's really unique in my opinion. It doesn't make it so just having a couple of legendary items makes you overpowered. So it doesn't unbalance PvP and PvE.
I feel this is a nice way of doing things, the idea you need to go out find these materials from multiple areas and invest even more time into getting them,or by using Team Work is the way it should be done, I'm all for all of this.
Brilliant video Dude! Absolutely loving your Content.
Thanks Mate always appreciate it. Yeah i agree it makes the game a lot more social as you have to work together as a team to get this stuff and then craft it.
nah i hate it when they force you to find a group.... 😔 i remember wow did that to unlock the Nighborne race....i hate grouping up with other players it's annoying
Really good video. As a crafter I'm really liking the way intrepid are making it so that crafting has a place in Ashes of Creation it's not something to do just when you bored it also has purpose. Can't wait to jump into the game and check it out.
Crafting doesn't merely have a place, it's central to the design of Ashes of Creation. It's not just that the best gear is crafted, but materials are the primary treasure that drops, more than items, more than coins.
Ashes lives and dies on its Crafting.
yeah i agree crafting needs to make a massive impact on the world and make sure these guys keep having things to do or build in verra, nothing worse than a dead crafting system in a MMO i deffo dont see it going this way with ashes of creation.
Great video mate! Can’t wait to get grinding for the legendary gear. I agree with you - I love when legendary gear is recognisable on other players. It gives you something to aim for
That's the one going to be a hard slog but we will deffo get some of the best in slot gear and get a lot of this crafted up as well. yeah same i want that vibe back where you just see something and even if you're not super knowledgeable you just know it's OP armour or super rare.
hopefully, they can balance the skins out with this that's my only issue.
EQ had artifact items, one per server and were obtained from these one off events where a GM would act everything out, interacting w/ the players and controlling spawns. It was cool as hell and having actual scarcity added real value to the economy and sense of accomplishment in the game. Games today might be a bit too populated for something like that but this is a step in the right direction.
It would be cool to have something like this in Ashes of Creation and they have said there will be active GMs in game so they could do something like this however I feel like they'll be more focused on enforcing rules and making sure the server is running smooth but it may be something to ask them during the next livestream.
Azrial did you know i LOVE you?
No but i do now mate hahaha, appreciate the love and Hope you Enjoyed the video.
personally i love that idea, as most mmo's these days just drop a fully made item ready to use and eventually it gets easier and easier to get as time passes on, i miss the days where certain items were just so rare that you couldn't just go into chat and see more than 75% of the community already have it. so this is a great fresh idea that i'm in love with as it really gets you to not just farm but also meet some legendary requirement to make it such as beating certain bosses, finding rare mats, helping certain npc, solving ancient puzzles or having to have certain skills in order to infuse it or craft it
I agree I really like how much effort every system has put into it in Ashes of Creation, you don't just get a bog standard system that you can just leave going while your afk. I can't wait to jump in and test it all, especially after the artisan update in the recent ama.
It’s also really important how you progress throughout the loot hierarchy. Disparity influx value into said category and item and by extension meaning. If poor-uncommon is the kind of leveling category with the occasional impactful higher tier drop, and rare is the broth of where everyone is for the most part… then epic feels truly epic once you acquire it, and it’s impactful.. legendary even more so. That also breeds organic relations, as you’ve to cooperate in order to get it. If we all swim in epics and legendaries the whole loot hierarchy is inflated and the lesser ones are meaningless.. might as well be called fart1 and fart2 and the only point is to facilitate a redundant “meh I got epic”. Loot is important, and games rarely get it right. Diablo2 in its prime jumps to mind, on how to get loot right.
Specific and necessary crafting materials for higher tier items can only be obtained through the deconstruction of lower-tier items. They have designed it this way to keep lower tier crafted gear relevant through progression and across expansions so we will see lower tier gear still be relevant as the game progresses. I'm not sure how they will handle loot hierarchy and how often higher tier items drop but we do know that fully formed pieces of gear dropping is very rare, we are much more likely to get items, crafting materials gold and hunting certificates so that may not even be too much of an issue.
@@Azrial Excellent! My concerns are always, that most rpgs and mmos nowadays dish out with epics and legendaries like cheap candy and the game suffers as a result. It’s not impactful, it’s without meaning, and if you want to create meaning; you need disparity.
As a filthy casual, the most I'll ever see is the occasional Legendary gatherable. If I'm lucky, or more accurately, whoever I sell it to.
no doubt they will sell for a pretty penny for sure, i can't wait to start farming them, for me ill be sad no-lifer when it comes to all in-game stuff in ashes haha.
I just want to exist within the game. I'll wait patiently until it launches.
I agree I can't wait to jump into Alpha 2 and test all the systems and get immersed in the world. I'm trying to wait patiently haha.
Not enough Northerners around here. Have a sub.
Cheers mate haha , i hope you Enjoy the videos much more to come!
I hope in order to be a legendary smith, you actually have to make like 10.000 pieces of epic gear. So that smiths name actually would be familiar to most on your server.
Yeah and then you would end up with that crafter getting contacted all the time as people know they make good gear especailly with word of mouth. I think gear crafting will be very important for gold making in Ashes of Creation and just important in general due to the way they are handling gear.
I remember the SWG days. (Except the grind) most fun crafting system I've had a pleasure of trying. A combo of SWG, FFXIV and some other games would be great. Stats on gatherables, depending on what you want to craft different stats are good for it. The only downside I see with that is how to gather enough for the crafting. In SWG we had harvesters... But I don't see a place for that in AoC.
I would like it if we did have certain gear or augments (kind of like in FFXIV for example) that would increase our chance to craft a legendary item or breed a legendary pet/mount.
The gear for certain artisans is something they have mentioned before and I did like how it worked in ffxiv especially on the gathering side with how it increased your chances of getting rarer items so it would be good to see something similar to this in ashes. I think the freehold farms could maybe help with something like this, they might not just be for crops they could also maybe be for trees and no food related plants (like hemp for fibre to make cloth). For the other stuff though I think we will have to go around the world and gather or trade with guild members.
Legendary gyuir looks exciting
Damnn straight love the way there doing stuff here 🔥👌 Hope you Enjoyed the video!
was alrdy planning to be a Blacksmith. smelter , woodworker
and that u can gather all materials as long as u got the gathering tool for it,
hope gathering dont take up a profession slot, so it would be like New World kinda when it comes to gathering
bigger professions i think we only could have 1 of right ?
The gathering is an artisan tree (there are 3- gathering, processing and crafting) you will only be able to master one of these and then they are broken down into separate professions within them which you'll only be able to master 2 of within a tree. So I could not master blacksmithing and mining. You will however be able to get to tier 3 or 4 proficiency in professions that are not mastered ( we don't yet know what tier mastery is but i would assume 5) so i assume we will be able to gather most resources apart from the extremely rare ones one these professions are levelled up. To get around this though we will be able to create alts, if were in a guild work together and make sure there is someone covering all professions to mastery level or trade the resources on markets by travelling around the world.
@@Azrial ye guess i Main Blacksmithing/ Weaponsmith or something on my main and focus on the professions to best help BS to their max non mastered lvls also, and get Master Mining on an alt etc :P
@@Azrial gonna be a tank so wanna craft my own bad ass legendary onehander and shield :P
@@jimmytheswede2063 Yeah that will be the way, whatever works best for you. I'm planning on being dps at the minute not sure what type though.
About the unique 1 per server Legendary gear, I thought they said you can also get those if you kill the person holding it? This way the first to get it can't just keep it easily forever and has to actually actively defend it?
At the minute I have not seen anything about this. There is a quote on the wiki that says "The fact there is only one of them... or very very few of them depending on what it is. I think that in and of itself is a balance component right and you need to make sure that the players who are striving for those legendary things and who are devoting the time energy, resources in order to achieve them are accurately rewarded... " The only time I have heard of gear dropping is through the corruption system but i'm not 100% sure it may be something I have missed and may be a good question to try and get answered on the livestream. I think it would be a really valid question and I would be interested to see what they say.
@@Azrial I don't remember exactly when/where it was said; Been following development for 4 years lol.
Yea I know they aren't temporary as in they are not timed and won't disappear unless they are mounts but there were ways other players could take them from you.
It makes sense balance-wise especially since it gives incentive for other players something to fight for and it won't be just the first people to get it to get to keep it forever without trying especially since they are unique and most powerful items in the game.
i just hope its not a click and make like wow i want a actual difficulty when making items and weapons armour and items only made by crafters i also want blue prints to be earned not just knowing the next items to make, i would also like to experiment with making weapons being able to try different materials to find the best list to make a weapon or item from
Legendary Mounts? 🤔 sounds like I have to earn them to ride them, and what I mean by earning, I mean fighting the legendary mounts. 😅
One thing i can say is they are going to be rare and super cool in sieges will give people BIG advantages not just that the PvE element of flying around the world outside of sieges will be so cool and really useful.
What happens if a freehold owner is out of the game for months or drops from the game?
I'm not 100% sure but at the moment "Housing ownership can default back to the node if the owner fails to pay their property taxes. A balance and penalties will be charged to the new purchaser of the home in the manner of a "foreclosure process"" so i imagine if the player is not online for a decent amount of time they will not pay their taxes and the freehold space will default back to the node and will then be available to someone else.
What language is he speaking. JK JK I'm really looking forward to playing this one. My brother and my best friend are getting this one as well!
Haha yeah mate is going to be really good for a substantial MMO to come out about time we got some good content.
Intrepid had set the bar high.
Monsters shouldn’t drop armory or full items. They should drop pieces, shards, or materials!
i agree and the current system only has gear dropping at a very low chance, your more likely to get legendary recipes or resources than gear and thats only from world bosses. Normal mobs will drop gold and hunting certifiactes stuff that makes sense for them to drop. I like this as I want to grind the amour out and farm bosses for mats not just full pieces, it adds more replayability to the system and makes you actually need to play and work together with people
Probably won't feel legendary if many people get them
no no loads of people won't get them this stuff will be SUPER hard to get and craft, world bosses will be stupid hard and need not only a guild maybe a full alliance to take down and that's when you not getting jumped by others guilds wanting the loot.
you also have some legendarys that are limited to one person per server which I get more info on the video.
What Iv seen there won't be item drops
My impression is that while materials will be the primary treasure, intelligent humanoids might drop coin or items.
"There is a small RNG chance of looting rare and legendary items or crafting materials from mobs based on the level, status and type of mob. " This came from an interview with Steven in 2020. So there will be item drops as well as the possibility of pieces of gear even though the chance is small and it is a lot more likely you'll get a recipe or materials
@@antondovydaitis2261 Yeah materials and recipes are the primary drop but there is a small chance for a fully formed piece of gear to drop especially from legendary world bosses. I know there also doing certificates, resources and items instead of wolves magically having gold on them haha.
@@Azrial In general, I would be surprised if bandits and the like didn't drop gear or coin.
@@antondovydaitis2261 Yeah i would say they will but i think it will be of poor, common or uncommon quality so good for deconstructing
So they’re basically copying eso… Need a crafter for anything
Copying, no. It will be a very different system from eso, but they might be taking some inspiration from eso.
Like Chris said it won't be a copy of ESO's crafting, it may take inspiration but it will be a lot more in depth and complex.
@@Azrial its the same concept tho. We’re prolly gonna have to have a separate char dedicated to just crafting
