- 9/7/2011: RIP Pavol Demitra and Igor Korolev. Both players played in this game and were aboard the plane crash that killed the KHL's Lokomotiv Yaroslavl team. The hockey community will miss both of you as well as the other 41 People who died today.
-------------------------------------------
This is the greatest third period comeback in the history of the NHL. Only three times has a team come back from being behind 5 goals in the third period, and the Blues completed their comeback in the least amount of time. The Blues trailed 5-0 with 15:10 remaining in he game, and came back to score 5 goals to force overtime, and would then score 17 seconds into OT. Al Macinnis, who scored the Blues 3rd goal in this game, also played on the Flames in 1987 when they did the same thing, coming back from being down 5-0 in 15:44 and winning in Overtime. The other occasion was in 1982 in the playoffs between the Kings and Oilers. The Kings were trailing 5-0 in the third period of a best of 5 series that was tied 1-1. They started their comeback with 17:26 remaining in the 3rd. They eventually won the series, upsetting the oilers and wayne gretzky.
Aside from the historical significance of this game, it really epitomizes everything that was good about the Blues in the Late 90's and early 2000's. Al Macinnis with his rocket shot, Pavol Demitra and others explosive offense, the spirit to keep fighting even when they should be down and out, and Ken Wilson with the amazing Play by Play. It's a shame this team was never able to bring the cup to St.Louis. - Sport
I come back to these highlights every now and then. I'm a Blues fan who lives in Toronto and this was the first hockey game I ever attended, I was sporting my Blues jersey sitting just a few rows from the glass. When it was 4-0 in the second period the random Leafs fan next to me said I'd be smart to get a head start on the traffic, I told him "I would hate to miss the comeback.". At 5-2, I smirked at him. At 6-5, I turned to see he wasn't there...
Let's! Go! Blues!
Long live the note
😁❤️
Demitra-Handzus-Bartecko, 3 slovaks in one line, having a good fun together. RIP 38, never forget.
To clarify: There have undoubtedly been more important comebacks throughout NHL history, but from a purely statistical perspective this one is the best. In the 100+ year history of the NHL, no team has ever come back to win from a 5 goal deficit in less time than the Blues did in this game.
Ok now I won’t bust your chops lol , glad to see you “ Clarified “ that title , I’m a Kings homer no doubt , but I call em fair even though my guy or gets beat , a legitimate loss . For me , It’s the Miracle on Manchester where the... well , you know the ending . Anyways thanks for the upload brother. Be well
@@americanlakingshomer29 no problem, glad you enjoyed it. The Miracle on Manchester was an incredible comeback as well, and undoubtedly the more important one considering it happened in a playoff series rather than a meaningless November game.
Copy that Kreege, cheers brother!!
@@Kreege Not just any playoff series - the Kings were the last seed and had a sub .500 record in regular season. Not only did they win that game, but they also won the series - against the Wayne Gretzky Oilers. If you tried to use this as a plot in a movie, no one would believe it.
Thanks for the clarification geeez
Blues 2019 Stanley Cup Champions!!!
"You don't think, do you? Nah. Could you come back from a 5-0 deficit in the third period?"
I was reading that as he said it
Ken Wilson made blues Hockey worth watching and more exciting!! Ken Wilson thanx for the unforgettable memories!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I miss Ken Wilson and this era of Blues hockey. I grew up during it and it was always fun to watch. RIP Pavol Demitra and Igor Korolev
That's my dad! I love going back and watching these videos!
Wow hard to believe this is how we use to watch hockey..
Thank goodness for HD!!
This looks like it was filmed through a shoe.

Still remember when this happened like it was yesterday... REFUSED to let my dad change the channel cause he "knew" it was over but me being young and saying we we're gonna comeback. He caved, and the look on his face as I went bat shit crazy running around the house when they tied it and won it was priceless... #RIPDEMITRA and #RIPDAD (Just missed us winning the cup in 2019) #BLEEDBLUE
Ken Wilson is my favorite all time announcer. He made an already exciting action packed game even better. This clip has Bernie Federko but when he teamed with the color commentator Joe Micheletti it was the best 1-2 punch in announcing. Listening to clips like this one really takes me back and makes me miss Ken Wilson.
I HATED Wilson.. His Oh baby was so lame. Such a homer. Kelley is sooo much better.
***** THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
Jack Edwards was funny
Ken WIlson? his whining voice reminds me of my 6 year old niece. I was thoroughly turned off to him watching rendezvous 87 on ESPN, and have so since then
WORST call of hockey broadcasting
I have always been partial to the Late Great Dan Kelly!!! I enjoyed Ken Wilson too, and I now enjoy Kerber and Chase, but Dan Kelly will always be the best in my book.
RIP DEMITRA
I miss him too. As much as I liked Hecht as a Sabre, he was a better Blue.
R.I.P Pavol Demitra, one of my favorite Blues players.
Ken Wilson...COME BACK!
I'm not coming home.
turned this game off. checked back in time to see OT. I was stunned
Ken Wilson. He was one of the best.
Love the old BLUES games! Keep them coming!
oh baaaby! Ken Wilson! I love how Bernie says"Too little Too late" when it was 5-2. The best!
RIP Dimitra
Ken Wilson makes this whole video awesome
I remember this game like it was yesterday. It was one of the first games I ever watched on TV, and it started my life as a die hard Blues fan. BLEED BLUE!!!!
this brings back memories so much, man do I miss Ken Wilson
Damn, I miss Ken Wilson! I remember watching this game live. Incredible.
Thats my dad!!!
As a die hard hockey fan, this is awesome. As a die hard Leafs fan, this pains me greatly.
ken wilson was the best ever OOOOH BABY! What a great night this was I will always remember this game. Thanx for putting it up. Go blues go Cards Smith corks one to right it may go
God I miss Ken Wilson's voice. "OH BABY!!!!"
I remember this game well. I was working 2nd shift and would record the games so I could watch them when I got home. It was always a struggle to not learn what the outcome was before I got to watch, but on this night I made it home and had no idea what had happened. I was just about to give up on it when Pronger scored and decided to keep watching. Amazing comeback
Anyone here after 5-1?
Was watching this game on TV back in St. Louis....the Blues team this year reminds of the team depicted here. Hopefully this team actually is the one that meets Lord Stanley this year.
That was an amazing game. The next day they replayed the 3rd period about 2 times. Pronger lead that team with more than just a goal. Pure heart on that come back.
5 goals in 15 minutes, thx 4 posting this, remarkable stuff
I remember watching this game and losing my damn mind!!
That Al Macinnis Slap hot though! Man that guy had the goods.
This is awesome, thank you for posting, a great piece of hockey history.
Goosebumps
Miracle on manchester.... la kings came back to score 5 in the 3rd against the oilers, Gretzky's, messier and the bunch during a playoff game. Kings also won in ot. Fuhr was in goal
I believe I watched this game as a kid as I watched every game back then.
Demitra, Hecht, MacInnis, Pronger, & Handzus are my childhood faves.
Federko's voice is simply nostalgic.
RIP both were great players
Amazing I remember me, my brother and my Dad watching this and going crazy.
0-5 with 15 minutes left in game and then win in OT 6-5 Pretty amazing!
I remember this night. I sat on the couch watching this game. I remember I almost turned it off when I think it was Pronger scores the first goal I decided to continue watching and glad I did.
Me too! I ended up watching the entire game, but was tempted to turn it off until the first goal!
I remember this game. Only time I had Center Ice. This was a great team that did nothing in the post season.
This team was so young so good. A great mix of vets and young players. Go WIKI the roster. Just a kick ass team.
Blues fans didn't know it at the time but this was the beginning of the end for a great team.
Thanks for posting it has been hell to be a Blues fan the last 4 years.
Damn this video brought back some good memories.
Funniest part to me is that the play by play guy seemed to know the whole way!
At 5-3 he acted like they had already tied it. By 5-4 he reacted like they had already won the game. CRAZY
don't give up man. be a true fan and support them through thick and thin! I'm pretty much in the same boat as you, being a blues fan
I so miss Ken Wilson's commentary...
amazing how the commentators foreshadowed the comeback, makes it all that special. This game gets me depressed as a leafs f an.
I remember watching this while playing pool, i couldn't believe what i was seeing.
The memories....rip pavol. Sorely missed in stl:'(
Damn I miss Ken Wilson as our announcer. I like the ones we have now (Kelly and Panger) but Wilson was just great.
i remember this game. it was maddening.
the blues goalie was my franchise player in nhl live's career mode. consistently the best goalie in that video game.
Beautiful. I wish we still had Pronger and Nash.. That one was too easy but he was great! That 4th + 5th goal were EPIC. What I love about the Blues is that to this day even they are so confident with their assists and manage to work them and other team. Reminds me of the olypics this year with the what, 4 Blues players that got to participate in the games?
But they're kinda old.
@@sdsmt99 lmao yes 14 years later 😅
Coach Q was the man. Those were the glory days. I hope were finally back to what we used to be. Go Blues!
In my opinion the "Monday Night Miracle " was the best third period in Blues history. I was there and have never been at an event that was comparable. But I'll give this a close second.
thanks for posting
I remember a game about 35 years ago the Maple Leafs had a 5 - 1 lead on the Bruins in the 3rd period and the Bruins came back and won 6 - 5 !
Still get chills when I see this
Maybe someone has mentioned this but the Avalanche came from 5-0 to 7-5 (no EN goal) in the last 24 minutes (6 goals in the 3rd period) against the Panthers once.
But all of these are really amazing.
macinnis had like one of the hardest slapshots
I love how Ken Wilson "could you come back" haha, yes Mr. Wilson, yes you can.
I remember this game it was awesome. So many awesome games that year. To the Judgeband, have faith in this season bro...they've got the goods they just need to put it together.
Beautiful. I wish we still had Pronger and Nash.. That one was too easy but he was great!
RIP DEMITRA! You wore that Blue Note with pride, can't say the same about some current NHLers who play for themselves instead of the crest on the front...LETS GO BLUES!
While I'm glad the Blues won, this also hurt as it came against my favorite goaltender of all time, Cujo.
I love the Blues.
Leave it to the Toronto Maple Leafs to blow a 5-0 lead in the third period like that
+penssmell997 It was a different Maple Leafs.
+randomhumor1 true, they had CuJo.
And it was in Toronto too.
I remember listening to this on the radio.
O Baby!!!!
Ken Wilson...boy do I miss him announcing the Blues....I forgot that Bernie Federko was the the color commentator here.
i miss that tandem of macinnis and pronger :(. Hopefully EJ and Petro is the vision of the future.
every video when u type in greatest hockey comeback ever the final score is 6 to 5
no team has ever come back from a 6 goal defecit
Wrong. ;) In Germany we had a game with a 7 Goal deficit. Landshut vs Berlin 1990. from 0-7 down.
i hate you kreege
Montreal Canadiens
@Kreege That almost happened when the Devils were down 6-0 in the third. They scored six goals, but Shittsburgh scored another one.
This was unbelievable. Its hard to remember the Blues having that much determination and that much tenacity when looking at today's gloomy times.
Ah, the Golden Days of being a Blues fan. I miss that squad. I'd do anything to see Big Al out on the ice again.
if you're looking for a date on this game, it was 29 Nov 2000. if you want greatest playoff comeback, check miracle on manchester, 1981 Kings V Oilers
It was actually 1982 but it was a miracle. Nobody expected The Oilers to go out in the first round in '82 after taking out The Canadiens and taking the Islanders to 6 games before bowing out in '81. Everybody knows what happened from '84 onwards.
ohhhh baby > thank you thank you thank you
this is great way to not tense up and just relax and get 5 quick ones
what a game. greatest comeback in hockey ever
There's the Leafs' problem... they are being coached by Jay Leno.
I miss Ken Wilson
i rewatch this all the time the boys might just make the playoffs this season
A 5-0 comeback in the Dead Puck Era. This was back in a time when a 5-0 lead would be considered Game freaking Over.
+Chris Kreager uhm a 5-0 lead is still considered game over. hell 4 is
Yeah I mean even 3 goals would be pretty dam hard to come back from in the 3rd period let alone 5
Pronger and MacInnis on the point for the power play. That's just not fair
sick comeback!
His name was Ken Wilson. He was a legendary announcer. I have a video with a bunch of his calls on my profile. just search "ken wilson tribute"
Just amazing.
I must say, that's even better than Habs-Nyr one !
4:13 what a beautiful pass.
Hey it's Ken Wilson. :D
Yep - that's the one. I'd really love to watch that again.
This is amazing i love it! 5 stars
R.I.P the best player ever
Anyone here after blowing a 5-1 lead to Evgenii Dadonov and the Ottawa Shittators?
Let’s Go Blues
Miss you Ken!
RIP Demitra (2011)
"Ooooooh Baby!" :D
Brent Johnson= best backup goalie in the nhl
R.I.P Pavol Demitra
A great announcer. Did some Oakland A's games in the late 1990's.
Chris Pronger, Al MaCinnis, Pierre Turgeon..those were the days.
As a Leafs fan, I remember this game. They weren't the same for the rest of the season after that. As much as As I hate to say this, anytime you see the leafs with a lead, remember, it is the leafs. They have been doing this for decades.
