      So, why the need for so much expense? It is just a place to watch a game for 3 hours. All the new stadium BS going on throughout the country tells me one thing: “fans” aren’t there to watch the game. They are only there to wowed by all the glitz and glamour that has absolutely NOTHING to do with football. Sit your @$$ on a bench watch the game from your seat as it happens on the field - not on the fricking video board. Have a couple beers and go home. The only thing that these new stadiums do is drive up the cost of being a fan. Done with the NFL. Done with all the stupidity…

    Listening to DG, you'd think this stadium was about to fall down or something... I've been to tons of games here, and never heard fans complain about it being"outdated".
    DG's ongoing hate with BoA stadium, which apparently he's never visited, is puzzling. Then again, the sole criteria he uses to judge stadiums is: how cool does it look on TV?

      I agree. What’s the big deal with the exposed upper deck? It’s a football stadium, it should look like one, not a spaceship. Open air stadiums are the best IMO. Who can forget the game against the Saints in the deluge of rain? We don’t have the hotel capacity to ever host a Super Bowl any time soon anyway.

    • @JasonTzzz
      @JasonTzzz Před měsícem +1

      @DanTarrant1
      If how a stadium looks on TV is DG's criteria then Lincoln Financial Field @ 1pm has by far the ugliest shadows on the field. Hard Rock Stadium canopy shadows are an eyesore too.
      As a Giants fan I'm glad that MetLife Stadium has a large capacity (fully enclosed) and lots of parking with direct ramps to several highways + public transit options. The American Dream next door is the best entertainment district you could ask for. Translucent roofs, sleek exterior, landscaping, and quirky social areas do not improve the fan experience.

I’m a Liverpool FC fan and our stadium Anfield is 140 years old, has no video boards, you can’t drink and watch the game in the stands, there’s very few luxury boxes, no gimmicks, and our only renovations have been made to modernise and keep expanding capacity to fit more people in as the ticket demand is extremely high. This is interesting…. For that price tag it should be damn near a new stadium. In contrast the jags deal is 1.2 billion and it’s actually a partial rebuild and it’s being stripped down to the concrete and completely redone, without a need for an entirely new stadium. I agree this is a band aid because they are talking about building a new one eventually also right ?

    I agree, it’s not a good stadium now and the renderings don’t change it enough to make the price tag worth it.
    The location is terrific. It’s on the edge of the city where there are bars, restaurants and hotels. It’s also the gateway to the southern part of the city which has even more bars and restaurants.
    The smart move would be to demolish it and start over in the same spot. They played in Clemson their first two years but that’s too far away. The smarter move would be to play in Columbia at the University of South Carolina. It’s a big stadiums and it’s only an hour away.
    Charlotte will regret cities like Nashville moving up the pecking order when they get their domed stadium after paying a ton for the proposed renovation.

    I’m from NC, but grew up a Dallas fan and actually live here. Just a little background why I’m following this story. Why in the world would you spend that type of money sh o renovations? I get inflation, but Most newer stadiums cost that much! It’s time to move out of Charlotte Uptown and go to a location a bit cheaper in the burbs and add parking for tailgating. I don’t think you would have to spend that much more. I’m also hearing rumors that it could be 2046 before you get another stadium? 21+ years?

    Thinking this might be a smart move financially for Charlotte. With current inflation and the money squeeze almost everyone is experiencing, there is NO appetite with spending 2+ billion dollars for a new stadium where only the top 5-10% can even afford to attend events there. I am actually pleased to see something being refurbished instead of bull dozed for a change. The Roman coliseum was an active venue used for well over 1,000 years. The very short 25 to 30 year lifecycle of large stadiums is beyond ridiculous.

Remember when they were first awarded the franchise it was to be called theCAROLINA panthers. The stadium needs to be located some where around Rockhill SC for ample parking and tailgating instead of down town Charlotte
