Surely Messi was heavily involved in the development of the latest "speed" boots from Adidas, right? Or at least had some input, right? Did they even ask for his opinion at all? And if they did, did any of his feedback make it into the final design? Well, all signs point to the answer to all of those questions being "no", which is shocking!
In today's video we take a closer look at Messi's heavily customized football boots for the 2022 World Cup, and discuss why it's very clear that he's not a fan of the latest X Speedportal boots from Adidas! And he's not the only one! We talk about what's different, why these changes were likely made, and whether or not it's right that Adidas sell boots using Messi's endorsement, even though he clearly doesn't like them! What do you think?

Would be cool if player's bespoke versions are available for general release. That being said, Messi's customization has been pretty consistent this past few generations; stitched burrito tongue, adizero-esque studs, his choice of upper and materials.
ur rite about messi customizations but they tried selling them before and it didn't work out vv well
@@nganghaangwong7197 Have there ever been a made-to-measure model sold to the masses? Puma did something kinda like it with Balotelli, Reus and Agueros signature boots of the Evopower and Evospeed some time ago. But besides that, the boots sold has never been made-to-measure
@@superfly3628 puma only did it as a limited release and new balance has likewise done it before
@@nganghaangwong7197 only Puma and New balance has done it. Puma did in 2014-2015 for Balotelli,Reus,Fabregas and Aguero. NB has done for Aaron Ramsey and Raheem Sterling In their sizes
Bespoke boots doesn't make sense for mass market products like Adidas. They wont make any profit with amount of effort and equipment they invest on this project.
An independent cobbler for example can make a good living making bespoke football boots. But he wont get rich like Adidas.
It’s so interesting to me that Messi loves the burrito style tongue so much , he’s had it for so many generations maybe it’s just a lot easier to put on , the stud pattern he wears is alot better than retail aswell , gambatrax is goated , the padding in the heel is crazy aswell , I bet you Messi’s boots are absolutely slippers and they should be comfort is the most important thing I think 🇦🇷
Ayeee no way, from Talkfcb what’s up aero!
@@aayushpande7883 hey bro , big up TalkFCB 🤝
I think it's because adidas can hide that type of tongue and make it look like the one piece version that normal people can buy
Aero, you LEGEND! Never fails to show up in Jamie’s comment section; it’s a duty to community by now!
In Times when it was the f50 adizero (before the Messi signature model in 2013) adidas used to make the same upper (leather) for the general public and for Messi. After 2013, Messi only had exclusively the leather version of the F50 adizeros and for the general public, the upper with the hybrid touch. After that, in 2015 with the new Messi Line, adidas also made almost the same model for Lionel and the public with only very little modifications : the Messi 15.1 was the closest thing to what Messi used to wear in official matches.
Seems like Messi should go to a different brand since he never likes his boots....
...and give up all that money! 🤣 Don't think so
Maybe he just likes the specifically created boots that he uses
Switch to Nike
Those hundreds of millions are way too good
@@719_MSK now that would break the footballing world
I loved the Messi 15.1 and pure agility, even the nemeziz wasn’t a bad boot but when he switched to the speed flow. I couldn’t wear the Messi signature and went back to the predators
Always wondered if Messi would’ve had better signature boots from de swoosh instead of what the three stripes have delivered up until now. Very nice video detailing all of the customizations on Messi’s boots!! 👌🏻
Money talks
You can't just say Nike and Adidas, no? The swoosh and the three stripes. Ok.
@@alanduncan1980 u still understood
@@alanduncan1980 made the comment more interesting
I used to have the F50. I bought it because Arjen Robben used to wear F50 during his time at Chelsea :)
which proves once again that leather boots are simply the best.
1000 percent
You made a good point.Speedportal boots released in July but since the new season begins, I was wondering, why most of the Adidas x silo players wear X speedflows. That explains a lot.
Based on the video you've shown, the solid 3 stripes side, the gold color look to have covered the wave stripes under it. Do you share the same observation?
It feels like a huge number of the Adidas players aren’t wearing their World Cup pack in the World Cup 😅
Also some Nike endorsed athletes who are seen wearing older colorways
Nike and adiadas are shit right now in terms of boots
Mizuno are the best cleat in the world
In Asia (where you can easily find Mizuno in a reasonable price) no one wear Adidas and Nike
I wish Joma still made their leather cleats... Good value for money.
@@goncalogregorio7583 Mercurials are phenomenal ... Tiempos are supreme.... the Nike kits and training gear is what is shite
Myself personally I prefer boots from leader, even if are a bit heavier than the synthetic ones. The synthetic ones for example are hurting my big toes. This preference is different from person to person based on foot shape.
Josh are you going to review the Mizuno Alpha?
i remember in the f50 adizero days he had a different thick f30 type heel instead of the thin f50 heel
also the leather ones hes got now look so nice wish they released those
Man Thanks to you i got a Mizunos like 3 months ago and those shoes only get more comfy everyday, after the game my friends always complain for the pain in their feet and iam like nothing
What mizunos are you wearing?
Seems like it’s either a hybrid touch upper from the 2014 f50 adizeros or customized leather variation.
I think its way easier for adidas to make the same boot with just a new paint job to retail (consumers will just buy them only for the colorway anyways), and just make the custom variant only for Messi, which it follows a whole different manufacture process and I can guess they cost way more money to make them, and if those were available in retail, they would cost even more than the regular Xs we have, which already are way too expensive. Same with the other key players in like any other big brand.
Funny. I was looking at old Messi 16+ videos and you made a video with more or less the same tittle. How would you compare Messi 16.1 or 16+ to the speedportal .1 and +
Messi is of the same mindset as Kroos with his adipPures and old timers who stick with their Copas year after year. They know exactly what the like and want that same feel every season and don't want to waste time getting accustomed to whatever new "innovation" or tooling adidas are pushing. When I was a kid most players had the same attitude, and would buy the same exact boots when the old ones wore out. Manufacturers knew this as well, because they would introduce and update new boots regularly, but their most popular boots stayed the same season after season with very small upgrades and changes.
Bro Are those the iconic Copa Mundials on your shelf top left?
Keep up the good work 😁
Cant wait for the Mizuno Alpha review Joseiah!
Would love to try a leather burrito tongue boot
How many pairs have been released around the world?
Why does it say HATE......He hasn't changed his shoes modification, customs or whatever in how many years.
He’s worn relatively stock custom boots for the last 5 years or so. These are by far the most heavily modified and completely different from the retail version
Leather should be standard on the upper because it just fits better.
I think they are the BEST looking boots in the world cup so good on them
Aside from Messi and Benzema, not every adidas endorsed players are fans of these new adidas boots. For example Man Utd’s Scott Mctominay wore Xspeedflows.1s for 3-4 games before switching back to the Speedportals and Luke Shaw before switching to the Speedflow.1 last season and Speedportals.1 this season wore Nemeziz. Declan Rice hasn’t even switched to the Copa Sense and is still wearing the Copa 20.1 even had a game where he wore a pair of Nitrocharge 1.0. Plus you see some players at this World Cup still rocking the older adidas boots. From other brands prior and at the World Cup,Bruno Fernandes wore a pair of Vapor 14 elites against Tottenham and Adrien Rabiot wearing the older colorway of the Phantom GT. Bukayo Saka didn’t wore his signature colorway instead is wearing the standard Blue New Balance Furon V7
There are still a good number of players still on the Vapor 14. Despite the 15 being out for months now. Some pretty high profile like Vinicius Jr, Modric, Kimmmich, Fede Valverde to name a few. And I still see Gareth Bale in his X 18.1s disguised in a X 19.1 colorway.
Benzema also doenst wear the new speed boot, but the 2 versions ago adidas speed boot
Dude the reason adidas doesn’t make leather uppers is because it doesn’t go with their pledge to make environmentally friendly cleats. With Messi and other top athletes being the faces of the franchise they’ll give them whatever they want but they’re not mass producing leather cleats anymore. You’ll only find leather on limited edition releases.
Copa sense?
Diadora Brasil are comfortable on my 48 year old feet when trying to keep up with kids half my age for 5 hours a day.
I first started noticing that my cleats were hurting my feet at age 30. it could have more to do with Messi's age than the particular design of the latest cleats.
Good luck to the Canadian National Team!
Random... can you do something on the Nike Air Zoom Roma please. 🙏🏾
@sr4u josh will you be reviewing these new adidas Messi color way ?
This happens in other sports too, like golf
Messi's boots are essentially an F50 boot. Heel inliner does not have the soft pads, which I personally do not like because they cause blisters, but has a synthetic leather heel inliner from his 2014-15 boots. Included with the synthetic leather upper from the F50 adizero. This shows that the F50 should just make a comeback with the new soleplate but as a general release not just a limited release. If it's still great for Messi then its still great for me. The F50 were the only boots that fit my foot perfectly without giving me blisters. Adidas boots from 2017-2022 have been giving me blisters due to the heel pads. Adidas is missing a huge marketing opportunity to make the F50 a general release again which would bring their profit margins extremely high. I know i'm not the only one that misses them.
F50 were such great shoes, especially the 2014 models. Great stud pattern, excellent upper, very lightweight, and still comfortable and durable. For me, they were essentially perfect, I've never had any issues with mine.
Damm I remember you with barley 9k subs now is 777k ! That’s wassup !! You were my high school CZcamsr to go to when it involved to buying soccer cleats !!
I knew they looked different good job
Love your content
Tried to get them on drop this morning. Sold out within less than a minute😢
Tim Weah’s New Balance Tekelas have laces and are low cut 🤔
Wanted to get a pair and right at 1pm I couldn’t get it because I took too long to put card info. 1:04am sold out. After that first match, glad I didn’t get it 😂
What you gonna get instead?
Haha i dont care i still got it, i think argentina will still go through dont worry
I was gonna get a pair but I just hate the speed portal model
@@fredbanda5494 I got the release colorway Speedportal.1 at a good price instead
@@mhmd127 yes I hope they do better. But also they are going against my Mexico. Goodluck. Think Argentina is better especially in the attack. Just want to see Messi win the World Cup. And they are nice though. Crazy how coveted this boots were.
Messi does not hate his boots, you hate the Adidas boots.
Lol 😅
I don’t hate any brand. Those Zidane Absolute remakes that came out a few weeks ago are easily some of my favorite boots of the year! Amazing quality! I don’t think that’s the case with the Speedportal. Messi doesn’t seem to either.
Exactly my thoughts. He has bias on nike boots and he cant even hide it.
@@Soccerreviewsforyou The new Adi Speed boot's don't come near to the X18.1-X19.1 my opinion 🤝🏻
no bro, messi wears adidas cuz they pay him a couple of millions
4:20 those are sick I want those
I just think they looked into cost of mass production, and retail price was going to be a bit too high for some ppl, who would like to have those replicas aswell, it's a business move its not personal
This is why Mizuno is the best for comfort, experience, performance, long lasting and class, no need to release new boots every year. Release the best version and keep improving the product for years then release it again as brand new.
I think you're absolutely right.
Where does it say he gives feedback and is involved in the R&D of the boots? I must have missed this
I would fully expect any major football boot brand with access to quite literally the best players in the world to consult them to some extent when it comes to product development. Elite level boots, made for elite level players. You would think consulting arguably the greatest player ever on at least whether or not he likes the boots they’re developing would be part of the process. Maybe that’s just me.
They should at least offer the leather option to us (the customers), at least for a premium price and let us decide which one we get.
I can’t say I feel sorry for him, or any professional who doesn’t like what they wear. Their interests aren’t in wearing the best footwear for their needs but in signing a multi-million dollar contract to be seen wearing them.
nah all they should not be getting paid millons for just kicking a ball around. All sport should become amateur only again. Play for the love of the game, not of love of your wallet
@@cfopcuber1027 it's bullshit and you know it
A Player like Messi would be a beast with full Leather Mizuno
If adidas made the Copa Mundial with an updated soleplate, it would be the preferred choice of about 90% of their players 😂
Isn’t there now a newly released Copa Icon for this problem? 👀
@@abdullahfarouk_ was gonna comment this the only thing is I’m trying to figure out if they’re full leather like the classics and if the cow leather they use is as good as the kangaroo leather
Totally agree
You used to say the nemezizs are trash but they are very popular among many adidas sponsored professional players😅
Considering how custom Messi's boots tend to be, I don't think they'll ever really make a pair that's true to his preferences.
How often have we seen the burrito tongue on consumer football shoes?
Yes you can expect that every model to be better than the last
Yh i agree with Messi the adidas x speedportal and flows i just dont Like them i still use nemeziz and Will try my hardest to get nemeziz when i need boots
i didnt like either them over i switched over to laceless pumas lol
It’s been like this for years
pretty standard for the messi line
i think no mater how good the upper material adidas produce, messi's boots will always use leather upper + burrito tongue. he like it and will wear it until he retire. i think if you already comfortable with something you wouldn't want to change it... toni kroos is another example
Gotta love roo!
He needs to only wear k leather. Adidas stop giving us bs synthetic Messi signature cleats when he doesn’t even wear that
Does Messi boots even count as customized? Different upper, different soleplate, different inner liner. The only similarity left is the paint job.
After wearing Nike Tiempos. I am never going back to synthetic.
Same synthetics are so uncomfortable and lack protection😂
I totally agree, what the players wear should be what we are buying ! It’s. A joke a rip off !!
It is just adidas F50 with leather upper
I mean it’s definitely a leather-like material but I thought Messi has opted to wear synthetic leather-like material for years why suddenly went back to leather?(last time he had it was 2013-15?)
Exactly
Yap it is true. Messi first choice was Tiempo before adidas came with huge paycheck😌
I just bought em for 350$, pricey but they fire af
They look great!
Bruh, just give us what we want, companies are annoying
Hes just been wearing cleats for a very long time hes used to one thing i think its just more about what did you come up playing in before you blew up
Yea I always thought the retail ones looked much more like plastic. The ones he wears looks like leather
The adidas messi line has been a asthmaticlly good looking line to me but the boots are not what he wears. Compared to how puma released custom player boots to the public, Adidas is really missing the point of a Player shoe line
Nemeziz is the best for Messi and everyone , very comfortable
All players wear modified boots tho
Im agree
If I'm paying for a Messi boot, I better get what Messi uses.
They can produce the Messi bespoke if one wishes to pay 10x
Man just bring back the predators
You perfectly sum up why this capitalistic consumerist culture sucks. Thanks for staying consistent all along!
I don’t believe Messi wears leather anymore due to his wife’s animal activism. That upper looks very much like what he had on the 15.1, like a super premium hybrid touch. Would be great if someday someone gets their hands on these to show the world.
I dont think messi dont like paper thin shoes thats just it. Some people dont like to feel playing barefoot
Every other brand priorities speed, completely neglecting foot impact safety.
messi is just like me fr
leather boots >
Why are some Nike Mercurial athletes still wearing the previous generation of Vapor’s? e.g. Haaland
Some older players just like the shit they was used too
My friend, keep quiet over there... Messi doesn't hate anything
This is why I loved the Predators... boots both the pros and consumers actually wanted to wear.
He did his most recent training at psg with speedportals x1, very interesting
Even Messi agrees leather > plastic ❤️
Completely agree w you
Yeah if adidas actually listened to Messi and his wants, then maybe the rest of us would actually like their boots and buy them.
Josh the football boot crusader !
you hate adidas boots, not messi 🤣🤣🤣
WHY would you want adidas to sell the same exact boots they made for Messi or any player for that matter of fact for retail? Then it won't be special to the player. Are you playing in the world cup?
Tbh i hate the speedportal .1 entirely. The huge toe box makes it almost unusable
Me laughing in my Rebula 3 japan's , Best Boost of all time
My fav boots too
Do you recommend 1/2 size down? Are they too aggressive for AG?
@@rrao1128 I recommend a whole size down in my nike i have 45/44.5 and i bought mizuno rebula 3 in size 43, they was a little snug firstly but in fact ne week the natural leather take the shape of your foot perfectly
I'm with you 100%, leaves an unpleasant taste in mouth when they do this. Why sell to the masses, when the player(s) it's for wouldn't even wear it that way or close to it. Def puts me off more from even trying it, when they do this.
Back to mundials, boys. You know it's true.
The regular consumer is pretty stupid though. Most people will buy a .4 Speedportal and still think Messi wears the same boots because of the colorway. I even had someone today tell me nike was selling professional player version boots because a prodirect employee wrote that in the title of a couple models. 95% of all consumers are very ignorant of what the actual professionals wear
I am not even asking bespoke version like the dude below, asking f50 adizero eggplant color K-leather quality upper with Carbitex SpeedFrame outsole supports the foundation..why cant deliver it like 10 yrs..junk after junk overproduced plastics...for 300$..adidas nike really sucks..tech supposed to go FRWD not backwards nor force people for more petroleum junks
