- Another weekend where Henco van Wyk puts on an absolute masterclass on defence. People can keep bringing up his size, yet he's still the best defensive player on the Lions team. I don't know what more he has to show for people to stop saying he's too small. He's one of the most physical centres in the game at the moment and absolutely destroys his opponents in tackles. He has amazing tackling technique and is an elite athlete with explosiveness and agility. It's a pity we don't get to see him on attack more, but boy it's so fun to watch him on defence. He is an absolute monster on defence and has earned his nickname of Weapon X , because of his aggressive nature and his fearlessness.
Fans are beginning to hear his name more and more, and he's beginning to look like a perfect option to be Lukhanyo Am's backup. There is no way anyone can convince me Jesse Kriel is better than Henco, I don't buy it. Henco is the only specialized 13 that would be able to play the role Am does for the boks. Having Am mentor him would be the perfect situation for the boks. Let's hope Rassie Erasmus and Jacques Nienaber is looking at him.
Reminds me a bit of Heinrich Brüssow. Different position, I know, but not the biggest guy yet freakishly strong and EVERYWHERE.
Haha he definitely does, he's also very good at the breakdown. And let's be honest, it's hard not to think of Brussow with the white scrum cap and like you said, both were not the biggest but freakishly strong for their size.
Nice to see the lions gettin a bit of momentum and building good for South African rugby

Excellent feel for the game. I like the comparison to Brussouw because he also went where the ball was going rather than were the ball is now.

Impressive. I hope he stays injury free. Would be nice to see him in the larger squad for the world cup or end of year tour for some experience.
Based on this I can't see Kriel being picked at 13 before Henco. Would be a very versatile player to have as Am's backup at the World Cup 🤯
I'd also sleep much better knowing that Henco is Am's lieutenant there at 13
@Edit name probably not soon but if you look at how he manhandled international centers and his workrate he won't do worse than Kriel.

If you look at every great team in history all of them had exceptional center combinations. This guy gives me hope for Bok future talent.
Man South Africa has so many good Rugby players .I believe South Africa is the country that has the most depth . I mean our B team can win against a country like Scotland
He was absolutely relentless on defence. He's got the "swing-around" tackle down to an art, very efficient.
Great centre combo between him and Louw, then Zander also as backup. Lions backline actually looking very strong this season.
Yeah I love it when he does that tackle, he's certainly mastered it. Louw has been amazing on defence as well, the two of them are not afraid to put in big hits on defence. I'm also a Zander fan, wouldn't mind seeing him at 15 as well. The guy has a monster boot on him
He is working all over the field like a young Brian Habanna. Work rate is everything

The lions dont like to use there 13 on attack and they hsve probably 1 of the best 13 in the world on offense nd defense it would just be so great to see him more on offense cuase this kid is a verry versatile player he can step he can run straight he has good hands he has iQ this kid is just special hooe to 1 day see him at 13 and damian markus at 12

Yeah with his work rate, he certainly does look like a flanker. Wish we could see more of his attack, that was what he was known for at school. But the Lions don't use their 13 on attack as much. But at least we get to see his amazing defence.
As a Kiwi, even I'm excited for his future. Too bad he's been exposed to the NH teams.

These videos are more for the future after Am, I don't think any player can replace Am at the moment, he's just too good. But he needs a backup. I'm not sure if Jurenzo is from SA, I'm going to do a video in the future but I've had a few people say he doesn't have SA citizenship but I haven't checked myself so can't say. He's definitely a talent.
@@tasanalytics AM can't play every game and could get injured - it woud be good to have a good backup with a bit of experience.

Wow - a player that can attack and defend - a lot of players can attack and do the fancy stuff but they cannot defend - this guy looks equally good at both.
Checked to see if it was the same guy tonight from this video I remembered a year back.... yes it's him, doing well against Zebre 2023 November.

I have said it for years. The lions find them and then the other unions mature them. If we could hang onto these guys the lions would be very formidable

With SA ‘A’ playing and the need for depth beyond Am/Kriel he could he on the EOYT.
His way better than kriel only thing is kriek offers depht to the team he can cover 13 14 15 but henco is a way better 13 than kriel on defense and offense
@@letsgo672 nah. Kriel is an amazing defender in the bok system and one of the guys like Kwagga, Duane, Malherbe who the team relies on. Deserves way more credit than he gets. Henco could be great, but we need to see more of him.

Yeah he has played 12 a few times at u/21 level. He can easily play both. So would be perfect player to have as backup for boks 12 and 13

I think he is signed for the next 2 or 3 years if I'm not mistaken. Henco's goal is to become springbok, he could've chased money and went overseas but stayed because he knew he would get playtime at the Lions. So I can't see him leaving in the next 2-3 years.
I like this youngster, came through the ranks, has all the skills and knows the game. Unfortunately he plays for the wrong team and will only be noticed when moving to the Bulls, Sharks or Stormers. Until then 3rd rank players in those teams will get more opportunities.

Just imagine him on boks 1 day at 13 and markus 12 that could be the boks smith and nonu duo.
I also love watching Markus play, people also bring up his size a lot but he simply dominates when he plays. He was simply too good at school level. I still remember the Monnas game where he single handedly created one of the biggest upsets in schoolboy rugby when Stellenberg won. And he was everywhere.

In rugby you can't beat raw power and speed. He looks a good prospect. I couldn't really tell what position he was playing in these clips,,.. wearing 13 but was often popping up as a wing or fullback position.
He does need to learn to defend with the rest of the team... charging out against club teams might be effective but will leave big holes against international level sides.
I'm sure Jake White has got the Bulls credit card out already. So many of our(Lions) good players end up north of the Jukskei. Henco reminds me a bit of Brian Lima, maybe not as verocious a tackler but nothing gets past him.

Not for this World Cup, but I still think he would make the perfect backup to them both. He's a specialist 13 who is more than capable to cover 12. I think he should be looked at as the long term replacement for Am when he eventually retires

But somehow he's experience is more valuable than what Warrick and Fassi bring to the table... So that same judgement needs to apply to Jessie as well.. Jessie's experience needs to be more valuable than what Henco brings to the table. .. or if not, then it sure as hell seems that white inexperienced players are given more fair opportunities than their black counterparts.
