Thanks again to @mattjackson for their awesome character sheets. Check out their White Box solo RP videos as well, they're awesome!

White box solo time? Yes, it is White Box solo time!
Woooo 🥳
Great video and it was fun to watch. I laughed out loud when you rerolled the two for the HP. Happens to me a lot when playing.
Yeah, haha - Next time I think I'll do what Tale of the Manticore does and do max damage + another damage roll! That'd apply for enemies, too - can't wait for an enemy to do that to me and one-shot a character😂
@@Chaoclypse Im a big fan of Tale of the Manticore. Keep up all the great work.
A generous Dwarf? What a crazy world we live in!😂
Haha! It's awesome how the dice can create interesting characters ;)
This was awesome, i will be using this as my guideline for my own whitebox solo sessions :) Thank you!
Another enjoyable video! I love the relaxed approach you take to solo roleplaying. You have your resources ready and then you just get into it!
Yeah!! To be fair, certain games lend themselves better to that style of play than others :D White Box, Mork Borg and Fallen are all games that are easy to jump into.
A lot of the ones in your recent video are too, ESPECIALLY Harper's Quest 2!
@@Chaoclypse ha thought you might mention that! Coming soon... fingers crossed 😁
Amazing keep this coming please.
Thank you! I am really enjoying it and wasn't sure if I was going to make it a series, but at this point I think I am :)
@@Chaoclypse In that case, arel you going to do some illustrations for it as well?
This was good fun. I hope that you continue the campaign.
Thank you!
AWESOME! Love it!
An entire party rolled in less than 7 minutes!! Excellent.
@@mattjackson It was super fun! You were right, the simplification of White Box really helps with managing a full party. You were a huge inspiration to me starting my CZcams solo RPG journey, and I always wanted to do an old-school romp like this :)
By the way, I couldn't find these specialized primary attribute character sheets from your website, only the regular sheets, so I actually took the scan you put up on the video and cleaned it up in a graphics editing software and printed it out, but you should definitely make them available if you haven't, they're fantastic!! (and people have already started asking me where I got them!)
@@Chaoclypse excellent! That was the exact reason I started recording my sessions, I had seen so many people make it overly complex and difficult, and then wonder why they struggled to get started. I am glad it helped you!
I will have to put together a blog post with the character card. Coming soon!
@@mattjackson Awesome! Yeah, I think I commented on one of your videos that the simplicity was a huge revelation to me. I strive for my videos to be as helpful as yours! :D
The critical damage roll was awesome, 2damage! Haha. Love it!
Also, don’t worry about flubbing a rule. It is about having fun and telling a story, there is no ‘correct’ way to play. If I cannot remember a rule, I just do want feels right in the moment.
Tuesday's gone with the wind. 🎶
Wow white box looks great!
It's super fun, simple and cheap :D
Based OSR gaming
Great play throughs. What are you using to randomize and outline open area hexs outside of the dungeons like what is seen in episode 2?
Shouldn't Leopold with his +1 strength get +1 on his "to hit" stat on the character sheet?
Good question! I was puzzling over the same thing. White Box: FMAG however, has a general to-hit stat, AND the option to get +1 to hit on melee weapons with Strength at +1. So I noted this by darkening the circle next to the melee weapon. I actually also, after the recording, wrote a note that says "+1 Melee" next to the To Hit so I don't forget.
Great video! Looks like I need to go buy that deck and white box haha. As a follow up to your previous video, this feels a little more like a 'step up' from 4 against darkness, in terms of crunchy-ness. How do you like that deck and white box?
I'm really enjoying it! I think White Box is a great simple way to get into OSR for solo play. I usually play it with Scarlet Heroes, but managing a party was super interesting! Really enjoyed how the narrative procedurally emerged from the mechanics.
Also, funnily enough, I actually think 4AD has more crunch, especially when paired with the various supplements, but it's more approachable and layered crunch (since you add the supplements one at a time)
@@Chaoclypse Thanks for the feedback brother. So would you say, 4AD or Whitebox, if you had to pick? I know they are sort of different, hell, you could try 4AD with the Axebane deck too. Always curious on your thoughts of these games :)
@@jonathanrector That’s a real tough one - as you said, they’re very different. I think it primarily comes down to whether you want an RPG (White Box) or a board game with no creative interpretation (4AD), but the upside is both are super cheap and just a few bucks on Amazon!
I may have missed this in the video but where did you find those little character sheets / cards? They're great!
Heya, I got them from Matt Jackson's video - he put them up on screen in one of the Doom comes to Willowford episodes and I copied that, made it look better in a graphics editing program, and then stacked them into an A4 sheet.
I'm not sure if it's alright for me to share a link to my edited version of his work, so I won't, but Matt said in a comment in his video that he'll be putting it up on his blog at www.msjx.org/ soon :)
@@Chaoclypse Neat, thanks! I may make my own as well.
Just posted on my blog, you can grab it as well as a few variations.
Good morning kind Chaoclypse,
Is there a generic written summary with some guidance for managing wb with a single attribute?
This mode is wonderful
P.s. just a mini-guide
Heya! I basically copied this from Matt Jackson who does the same thing on his White Box playthrough. It's just having one primary attribute as +1 and the rest as 0. You can find more details on Matt's introductory videos on CZcams (Just search "Doom Comes to Willowford")
Many thanks !
Where did you buy the Axebane's Deck of Many Dungeons? Looking for retailer in EU.
I got em off The Game Crafter! Took months to arrive though!
May I ask what notebook and pen you are using?
Heya! The pen is a frixion pen, so it's erasable. The notebook is just a grid notebook I picked up at Daiso for like 3 bucks! :D
@@Chaoclypse thank you!
Where can we down load these great character cards made by Matt Jackson?
www.msjx.org/2023/05/white-box-mini-character-sheets.html
I’m interested in getting this game. Where would I happen to find it? Thanks for any tips you can offer
You can get it on Amazon fairly cheaply!
@@Chaoclypse cheers thanks for getting back to me. I subbed to your channel as well today
Great video! How is WB different than OSE? Do you like it more?
Heya, I think OSE is great but managing a full party in WB is definitely easier. I think (at the moment) I like WB more for solo games and OSE more for group games.
That said, I've tried both solo but neither for groups (I mainly GM Cairn and Black Sword Hack) so I might be wrong there 😅
@@Chaoclypse nice. Lately I’m playing a mix of Morg Borg basic rules with OSE classic fantast. It’s great because monster blocks need just HP and Attacks 👌
@@Mantorp86 Awesome! Another nice option if you're keen on experimenting is Cairn, there's a bestiary with tons of conversions. Or Knave, where there's no need to convert.
@@Chaoclypse The new Ultimate Chaos Edition of Black Sword Hack actually contains a small set of solo rules and tools. Maybe you can make a video of a solo Black Sword Hack session sometime?
@@MrVoraxTranstellaris I should! I've actually solo'd Black Sword Hack a few times and I found it works very well. Lots of videos to get to though, haha.
What card deck are you using for the dungeon ?
Axebane's deck of many dungeons!
damn, i liked Tuesday
If theage did not start with a spell book, upon leaving magic school/mentor, where was he going to keep his spells and how was he going to memorize spells after casting the one he has memorized? Magic Users *start* with a spell book, they don't buy their first one; all the others they must buy.
While I like that the Dwarf is not prejudiced towards Elfs, I find it interesting that he would go adventuring with people he is prejudiced against; adventuring requiring more than a bit of trust.
I like this, thanks.
Heya, I actually realized the magic spell error fairly recently after reading Delving Deeper and some of the original LBBs! Definitely a mistake on my part, and one that I initially made during the OD&D group sessions I've recently started to play in, as well.
Also, about the dwarf, that's a good point, for sure. I've learned a lot from playing in more group sessions, so if/when I return to this hopefully it will be more coherent!
Thanks for watching :)
This makes me want to play dandd again. Can i play all rhe white box modules solo? Thanks!
Hey! Why are you referring to single characters as “they”? It sounds unnatural and makes everything harder to follow. Especially when you switch from talking about one person to talking about the party as a group. It’s especially confusing for people who don’t have English as their first language. You probably don’t think about it while speaking, but listen through the video and think about it. I think you’ll see my point. Apart from hurting my brain a bit, great video as usual 👍
Heya! Apologies for that, I can definitely see where you're coming from. It's a habit that I've gotten over time - I refer to people as "they" when I don't know their gender, so I think a bit of that snuck into the video. I'll try my best to be more specific in future! :)
@@Chaoclypse Thanks! And it isn’t wrong when used for a person of unknown gender, so that’s fine. And I know that you know, because your English is excellent!
Here’s an (unnecessary 😂) example of how it gets weird:
John and Jane entered the building. John drew their gun first, Jane drew their gun second, then they shot and killed a man.
Ownership of the gun or guns is unclear. Also it’s impossible to tell if it was only Jane, or the two of them that shot and killed a man.
Here’s the example without any weirdness:
John and Jane entered the building. John drew his gun first, Jane drew her gun second, then she shot and killed a man.
As you can tell, this is a pet peeve of mine. I have come across one or two board games, where the creators used “they” for single characters. And the amount of completely unnecessary confusion it caused gave me a minor aneurysm. Sorry for the rant! 😂
Huh, I didn’t find it that confusing, I followed along pretty well!
@@sheaperry5819 That’s good. But your comment proves my point. If it wasn’t - that - confusing, it was still confusing. And if you followed along -pretty well-, you didn’t do it perfectly. And if you’re talking about the thing I was talking about, you’re saying the exact same thing, you just experienced the problem to a lesser degree. Which means we agree that correct and specific use of pronouns is less confusing for a listener, and therefore to be preferred when clear communication is the goal. Also, thank you for watching Chaoclype’s videos 9 months after release! His channel is great 👍😄
I want out of this cursed timeline
