How I Learned To Enjoy Games Again

  • In the last 6 months I've rediscovered how to enjoy games again. A lot of it stemmed from playing the same multiplayer style FPS games over and over again. By switching it up and trying out some great singleplayer games, indie games, and genres of games I don't usually play I've rediscovered a love for the hobby. It's important to keep life balanced with tackling your priorities first, working out, etc, all the obvious stuff, but once you've done that, sometimes all you need is a little variety in the types of games you play to enjoy them once again. Thanks for watching. #gaming #gamingvideos

    Great topic to cover nowadays, BBK.
    FPS games aren't quite hitting rn.
    So, I decided to pick up Tekken 8 and try a genre that I've never really given a proper go. Don't know how I'm gonna fare with the game, but I'm genuinely really excited to be bad at a game and just have 0 expectations 😅
    I always say, if a game isn't cutting it for you, step away from it or even from gaming and try something new.
    You will probably come back to things with a greater appreciation.

      Get a fight stick, idk why buy fighting games feel way better on those

    • @E1iteWolf
      @E1iteWolf Před 11 dny +1

      Don't listen to the other guy, don't get a fight stick unless you are already high rank and really insist on using one (because it won't make you better overall, it's mainly comfort/tournament accessibility). I'm using a keyboard for fighting games and right now I'm diamond 3 in Street Fighter 6 (like top 15%) and it's basically my first fighting game (using classic control scheme, not modern). I almost fell into the trap of buying different controllers, but all I needed was to swap from an xbox controller on PC to keyboard and suddenly things were more intuitive for me (decades of PC gaming yay).
      My top recommendations are: console pad if you are a console player, keyboard if you are a PC gamer. Then play the game a lot. If one year later you are still playing: only then look at different controllers if you are still obsessed. Else you are just sinking money into something you might regret. This doesn't apply if you already spend lots of money on random stuff you don't need, then do whatever. But it's not needed AT ALL.
      I know you didn't ask for this, but I'm saying it just in case.
      Tekken 8 is cool by the way, I wanted to pick it up but I can barely play one fighting game at a time so maybe I'll try it later.

    • @fragr33f74
      @fragr33f74 Před 10 dny +1

      @E1iteWolf Thanks, bro. Actually, really great advice. Plus, for Tekken, I've actually heard people say a lever stick can be harder to use, so yeah, I'm defo gonna stick to controller as a console pleb 😂
      And, funnily enough, I believe the most recent Tekken 8 evo champ is a controller player!
      Also, I'd defo recommend T8 if you can grab it at some point. It's been so much fun. I'm planning to get SF6 at some point, too.

    • @E1iteWolf
      @E1iteWolf Před 9 dny

      @@fragr33f74 No problem! I think there are more controller players than leverless players in T8. Even in SF6 controller is extremely represented at the top level. In Tekken it's a bit more on the stick side, but that is mostly just the crowd that grew up playing fighting games in arcades or got into them while fighting sticks were considered top tier.
      I haven't played it yet but I've watched a large amount of T8 content through PhiDX who IMO makes the best teaching/analysis content. If you haven't seen any of his videos yet then I highly recommend to check it out.

      I have a question about Elden Ring since i don't own it (yet). How do you 'build' a character? Can you spec a character a certain way stat/weapon wise and then switch or does it penalize you for swapping things? Are you able to build something yourself without feeling super gimped due to not following a specific build that a new player can't even know about, if you know what I mean?

    • @swastikgoomber
      @swastikgoomber Před 11 dny

      @@E1iteWolf Basically you can choose from various different builds or characters whatever you wanna call it
      Each with a certain amount of stats distributed in various fields and some decent starting gear, each facilitating a different playstyle.
      This just gives you a basic starting point, you are not limited by anything, you can spec points into any field you wish, make your character however you like, whether you want a hulking tank, a swift slashing type, a pure mage, or like me become gandalf with a staff in one hand and a sword in another...
      Your starting class will have a major impact on how your early to mid game will go, but it wont restrict you to a playstyle since after the intial stat distribution from the class you selected, you are free to pick and choose how you wanna level up...
      How it does matter is, every time you level up any stat, it exponentially increases the global cost of next upgrade, so there is only so much you could level up. So starting class does have some impact, but not too much either. Later in the game after a certain point, you unlock the ability to "respec" your points if you made any wrong decisions or just wanna change ur build, but the initial class will remain the same...
      There are plenty yt videos out there which you can refer for knowing about each class. If you are curious i chose "Prisoner" which is a mage+sword class, which I like to call Gandalf...
      I just realised it ended up being a huge essay, anyway have fun!

    This works for those who are mentally heathy (relatively) in the first place. Those who play games to have fun. But if you play games to escape issues in your life, this may not work, because you are addicted to those specific games for a reason. They must have validated you in some ways that real-life can't. So some video game problems need to be solved in real-life.

Easy to shake off, but I quickly went back to ReCore that I'm currently working on. Not top 10 like a Mass Effect, but definitely worth it. Quitting rocket league after 6k hours has been the best choice ive made in gaming. Alot of people that are "gamers" are really only "maining" 1 game where they dump insane hours into. Playing variety games should be more normalized so we are less "one game andy"

    After I quit Destiny 2 last year, I've played so many games and had such a great time gaming again. I came back for The Final Shape and after I beat the campaign I logged off again (probably for good, unless my friends want me to play with them). I just don't have it in me to play super grindy games like D2 and Warframe (even though I will play them casually) anymore. I've spent an ungodly amount of money on single player games this steam summer sale and am having a blast. The past 2 days I've spent playing Last Epoch and deciding on a build for my playthrough of Pathfinder: WOTR

    The one thing that makes me happy is just playing games that I’m familiar with, and playing newer games don’t have the same impact, I played sonic frontiers for months, and at the end of the game the level design was too overwhelming, and what made things worse is that a bug stopped me from progressing, imagine spending months on a game then to have a bug that completely ruins the whole game!

    I have like multiplayer and then single player kicks. I’ll play a lot of shooters and then when I get bored I’ll pick up a game I haven’t played before (thanks steam sales!!!).
    Keep your gaming tastes like food. You eat the same thing every day you will get tired of it, so don’t play the same thing everyday! Don’t fall for fomo events or skins since gaming companies will always release cooler skins down the line

    I've maybe stopped playing Multiplayer games about 3-4 years back and have been going through lots of single player games and have loved it since, yes every now and then ill try out a new multiplayer game or when my friends are all on but other than that my full focus with gaming was nothing but single player games. I even made a whole list of my completed games and ive so far completed about 180 single player games since then. Games like Alan wake, the batman games, dead space games, i beat devil may cry in a day, ducktales, GTA san andreas, ghost of thsushima, kingdom hearts, zelda games, mirrors edge, resident evil games, samurai jack, the orignal sonic the hedgehog and a ton more i can keep listing. Each game has held its own weight, could be its gameplay, story, visuals or characters in general but each told and tells great stories that you can dive into. I seen some amazing stories play out, some even get you emotional and some leave you wanting to know more. I'm thankful for the gaming and Gaming is for all, ive found my bubble in it and i love it.

    I been playing some online games to get social interactions, extraction shooter, survival crafters, milsims, co-op shooters... but i don't think i'm ready for the toxicity of competitive pvp yet.

    I only play multiplayer games if friends are online and are down to play. If not, I’m booting up a good single player game to wind down. Replaying some old story games, new story games or games that I havent had the chance to play yet. Just finished The Last of Us Part 1 for the second time (first time was when it released on ps3), and now a little break with Jedi Fallen Order, to afterwards continue with TLOS Part 2 for the first time ever. Some story games have have such incredible stories, movies could even learn from them. GoW Ragnarok, my favorite game of the last couple of years

    The problem is online multiplayer in general. Single player was and will always be king. They have more ways than one to fill time, no matter how long or short, easy or challenging. If someone's first thought to "recharge " after a stressful day is to hop onto toxic, stressful online multiplayer. Then that's a them problem at this point.
    It's not about taking a break from multiplayer. It's They need to stop playing multiplayer all together. Modern multiplayer don't have the community, the social aspects that made the game fun to begin with. Go where the fun is, either queue up with your buddies or just stop playing the competitive online multiplayer in general. They don't offer anything substantial over a single player game these days. This is just my take, but I'm an outlier who has never seen or understood the value of competitive multiplayer even in the "good old days."
    Good video, it's just tiring seeing so many videos saying the same thing with the same obvious solution. Then go back to the problem (multiplayer games) and the cycle repeats.
    Gaming has never been better for me than right now. I'm playing games I want to play. I'm playing the fairy tail rpg since im a fan of the manga, replaying metroid prime 2 because it's an incredible game that I love, I'm looking to get into starcraft for it's universe and characters as I like those aspects of scifi. All of this while I wait for new releases I want to play: Sonic x shadow generations, lollipop chainsaw remake, metroid prime 4, doom the dark ages.
    Look for the games you want to play. If those are soley online competitive fps, then with all due respect to those people, I feel so sorry for you, please try and enjoy something else that genuinely wants you to have fun.

    The best tip i can give you guys is actually quitting competitive games. They are most of the time the issue which makes you rage because you lost your ranked, downranked lost your elo or whatever. When I switched to non competitiv games I realised that it actually doesn't matter if you loose or have a bad game. What should happen? There is nothing you can loose. You finally have 0 pressure and you can enjoy the games you like. It is that simple

    Always play what you want. Games are supposed to be fun. And if you're not having a good time then the game isnt for you. No sense in getting worked up over a game. Shut it off and come back to it later or not at all. Shouldnt stress yourself out when you're just trying to relax and have some downtime.

    I’ve never been a multiplayer gamer, with few exceptions like Helldivers 2. Right now I’m playing the crap out of Cyberpunk with the DLC, with 80 hours in and still having a blast. Another great game is Returnal, and it’s on PC, so no excuse if you don’t own a PS5. I play A LOT of games and happy to make recommendations if you feel stuck. Just let me know what genres or mood you’re looking for.

    About 1 year or so.
    Got out of the military, then got a job in the same field.
    Well they are flexible on the hours you can go. So I choose 5 in the morning.
    Work, then going home and lifting for 2 hours, and then eating and making food for the next day drains me of time.
    Haven’t touched a game in almost a month now.

    For me multiplayer peaked during the PS3/360 era, but started it's downfall when you started playing against everyone vs a community that frequented a specific server.
    These days I stick to coop or pvevp games like Exoprimal, as games like The Finals & Multiversus just end up boiling down to rinse & repeat tactics to overcome another player trying to exploit an over powered tactic that you know will one day be nerfed, but not before they put out more paid content instead of balancing the game.
    So now I stick with coop generally & have been happier for it, I still love playing against friends competitively though.
    That said I recently bought some arcade cabinets & that combined with simpler games like Pepper Grinder that focus on fun core gameplay loops without a screen full of information for loot have really helped me enjoy gaming again. Sucks that most games want to bombard you with information to keep you on a treadmill though, not that I dislike it when I'm in the mood for it but I'm also getting burnt out on it.

    What i like to do when multiplayer sucks is i go and start a fresh Campaign in infinite or Titanfall 2 on easy and just chill. Especially on Infinite. And i just wander and climb the highest rocks or try to kill stuff in creative ways. It usually makes me lose a few hours like its minutes. If i want more engagement i play the titanfall 2 campaing and just blitz it as fast as possible just.

    Need for speed unbound is a interesting balance. It's a single player game with a "battlepass" like system. I don't always win rounds. But I win them most of the time.
    I play fortnite and I realized it's more fun if I only play a little. They kind of cap you on bonus xp. So if you play alot the game will only give you a little bit of xp.
